    I have fatbiked with Daniel P from Winnipeg, who finished 4th in his first try in the 350. I caught a glimpse of his ITI setup at the last group ride I rode with him a few weeks ago. We were on forested singletrack and he was just givin' er even on the tight treed sections with all that cargo on board. He is an absolute machine. He made Winnipeg, and Canada proud!

      4th is pretty bad.

    I would be interested to know the stats on pedal and footwear types. Flats vs. clippers, bike-specific boots (45NRTH, Lake, etc) vs. non-bike cold weather boots?

    I love these data breakdown videos. Maybe at the end of the year, you could make a video of all the bike data collected and say, "These are the most popular components of the year."

    Great education. Thank you. Just starting my planning and prepping so finding your channel is a huge help.

    Re: zero suspension forks... At 6:23 of the video it looks like you show a picture of a Lauf fork - isn't that a suspension fork or am I mistaken?

    My Blackborow has a dropper. My Highline 3 has been flawless for years, all the way down to -40. Sketchy descending is so much better with it.

    Great video! Regarding the Garmin Edge series, I did a 100km Fatbike race over the weekend at -25°C (felt). I used a Garmin Edge 530 on battery save mode and finish my 6hrs race with 75% battery left.

      I’m impressed, mine turns off every time it gets cold. 0c/32f range. It’s so silly.

    Popular: insulated air pad on solid foam pad for real cold. I would take both.

    Ooh! Panniers and fork bags. Nice. At those temperatures maybe they had two pads foam plus air to get the necessary high R value?

    I wonder if Revelate Design will release the orange nano panniers as seen on Lael Wilcox's bike! They'd look great on my bike!

    Hello I have some questions about iditarod. Did you use studs when you were ridning. How many kilometers are on ice what kind of lights did you use!

    Interesting that there are no Trek Farleys. Trek just updated the Farley lineup to make them more adventure ready. Any insight into why no Farleys? Great vid by the way, and best of luck to all the crazy Iditarod participants! Shout out to fellow Minnesotans! 🙂

      A fair number of riders on them here in Fairbanks, I almost got one myself. Just had a better fit on a 9 Zero 7.

    The only thing that stood out to me was that there weren’t any folks from California, Oregon, Washington or Idaho. Cali just because of population, and the rest because they trend very outdoorsy.

      Having recreated regularly in WA and bc, I have a very clear idea of myself freezing to death alone and hungry doing a race like this 😂

    No gear hubs? Do they not deal well in the cold?
    Rohloff?

    • @BIKEPACKINGcom
      @BIKEPACKINGcom  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Perhaps it has something to do with them not being spec’d on bikes?? Not sure how they work in cold temps as I’ve never used them in freezing temps, hopefully someone can chime in here.

    • @MrQuestful
      @MrQuestful 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m with you @Nobbyclarke, I would have expected a Rohloff or Pinion somewhere in the lineup and surely a belt drive. I would thought a Pinion would be handy because you have the potential to swap out wheels easily. For a serious racer I wouldn’t be surprised if they bring two sets of wheels to the start & decide what to use.

    The Lauf fork in the photo doesn't count as a suspension fork?

    • @BIKEPACKINGcom

      not in the traditional sense, but its certainly worth a mention so thanks for the comment.

    Are you out of your mind? Selling or supporting a bicycle when these dogs have been tortured. .. just for someone to arrive at the finish line?
    Shame Shame Shame
