    Thankyou for this. I own one just like this and there is very little info online about it. Have to put a better muffler on soon because mine is so freaking loud with its short im assuming factory muffler

      Your welcome! I've spent several days scrolling through old forums looking for information. I've got some plans to modernize this machine, so stay tuned!
      I have a video in the works covering some different mufflers & their respective decibel levels. Both at idle & running wide open. You probably have the 'salt & pepper' style that came factory. Hopefully I'll have it posted sometime in April.

      I like hearing it run too, means that I didn't waste a bunch of time & money on it! Things are going going fairly well. It's that time of year. Give me a call when you have some time.

    I own a 1987 machine and did a ton of work to it and it welds very smoothly. The owner’s manual is available from the Lincoln web sight for free, it has everything wire diagrams trouble shooting to general maintainer work.
    When I got my machine it sat for a long time and had to replace a few items the most expensive was the generator. I have had it sit for a few weeks covered up outside cold and it fires up flawlessly. Stick with the stock muffler it’s designed engineered for that motor. The wires are color coded on the schematic and the machine make it easier to locate them. I finished it painted it professional new decals about a year ago.

    Found one of these in a scrapyard while looking for a crtane for my service truck. Mine looks about the same as the middle roughly used ones I see being fixed and repaired in videos here. Thank you for making this video. I have a lot of work to do on mine before it is ready to replace my Hobart 300 amp DC pipeline welder on the trailer.....

      I have another machine just like this one. Been using it for 15 years. Very stout machines. They also have a fairly consistent & smooth arc when welding. Thanks for watching! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Hopefully it'll help you out.

      You're welcome. The bridge rectifier can be found on multiple sites. Just do a Google search for the part number and it should come up. They're about $5 a piece.

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! It does run pretty good. I'm going to have to play with the idle a little bit, it does bog down slightly. Now I can move onto the cosmetic upgrades & updates for it. It should turn out pretty good.

    Great work Wesley! I think it was a good buy especially since the fixes you’ve done have been “low-buck”. BTW that spark plug tester you used was really nifty. Just might need to pick one up someday 👍

    • @WesleyJohnsonMI
      @WesleyJohnsonMI  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Definitely cheap fixes, now it's just a matter of fine tuning things. That spark plug tester is one of the handier things I've bought. Cheap too. I'm pretty sure it's made by Lisle tools.

      That makes 2 of us! 🤣 I've got a video uploading right now on one mod. I'm still trying to figure out a couple of different configurations & sorting some wiring out. Stay tuned!

    • @jasonkeith674

      @@WesleyJohnsonMI mine runs! Leaks oil only from underneath so I need to figure that one out. Also auto idle no worky. Just high all time. 115 outlets work. It ran 6011 kinda. Maybe I didn’t have cranked up enough. Loud as ever with no exhaust. So some fine tuning needs to happen over the next few days 👍.
      What’s your knowledge on the auto idle? I’ll inspect the wires on board and to/from solenoid and start there.
      How’s yours coming along?

    • @WesleyJohnsonMI
      @WesleyJohnsonMI  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jasonkeith674 check wires 212,213 & 215 for poor connection. If it won't auto idle, try pulling the arm of the auto idle solenoid down. Sometimes things are a little bound up with rust or gunk from years of sitting. Mine is also finicky at times.
      As for welding with it. If you're using 1/8" 6011, make sure the machine is on AC & set it for around 90 amps. Don't forget about your fine tune rheostat, that's what sets your final amperage. If it's still not wanting to weld, clean the amperage selector contacts, the capacitor contacts & wiring & check the bridge rectifier for proper operation.
      Glad you got it up & running. They're some smooth welding machines to use.

      @@WesleyJohnsonMI thanks again sir!! I'm off tomorrow and will do a through wiring inspection. I will also lift it up on the hoist and hope to find an easy fix to the oil leak as well. Anything special with testing bridge rectifier? Thanks again. I'll keep ya posted.

    Buenos dias tengo un problema de la maquina no me genera , pero enciende y esta en buen funcionamiento que podria ser ? 2:38

    • @WesleyJohnsonMI
      @WesleyJohnsonMI  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What does it not generate, 110v or welding current? If there's no 110v, you might have to re-polarize the machine. I have a video on my channel that shows 2 different ways to do that. I think it's in the misc playlist. If you have 110v and no welding amperage, it could be a faulty sense wire or bad bridge rectifier.

    what are those big capacitors numbers? I have to rebuild this exact machine haha

    • @WesleyJohnsonMI
      @WesleyJohnsonMI  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It has four 200mfd, 150vdc capacitors. These are obsolete from Lincoln and the parts list shows a kit(S18696-A) for replacement that has only one capacitor. This kit is also obsolete. I've searched online looking for replacement 200mfd 150vdc capicitors and didn't find any with screw terminals. I have found a 800mfd 150vdc from Lincoln, part number S13490-114. The single 800mfd will be an appropriate replacement for the four 200mfd capacitors. Most of that text is taken from two different posters on welding web. There are several good rebuild threads on that site, that go into great detail and have plenty of part numbers. I'd link the threads, but my comment will get deleted.

    I have one that was bought new in 84 and ran spot on until I moved n it fell off the trailer, it busted the gage panel and I have to rewire and no schematics

    • @WesleyJohnsonMI
      @WesleyJohnsonMI  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear about that! These are some pretty tough machines. There's usually a schematic attached to the underside of the generator cover. If that's missing or is illegible, Google im308 manual. It's a free download from Lincoln. 28 pages with wiring schematics & troubleshooting tips. Covers both briggs & tecumseh engines. Good luck!

      Check out my video on how to polarize a welding machine. If that doesn't work, I do have another video on some troubleshooting for this particular machine. I do recommend downloading the owner's manual. It's free & does have a troubleshooting guide in it.
      What's the voltage at the 120v plug when it's on high idle? You might want to consider cleaning the comutator where the brushes contact it. They sell a comutator stone for this purpose, it's around $10. DO NOT use sand paper to do this, it'll be an expensive fix if you do.

    How did you reflash the generator? I have the same welder bit produces no electric of any kind..not even 12 volts?

    • @WesleyJohnsonMI
      @WesleyJohnsonMI  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a video in my playlist titled Lincoln Weldanpower, I describe 2 ways of polarizing the machine. When you say that it isn't producing 12v, where are you checking that at? No 12v, leads me to believe that it could be a bad stator or bridge rectifier. Have you downloaded Lincoln's manual IM308 for it yet? There should be a troubleshooting guide in it.

    • @billlindsley1642

      @@WesleyJohnsonMI I'm pretty sure I have a bad stator, just haven't had time to mess with it. This was a frustrating purchase, I paid too much for the machine not running to begin with and it cost me $100 just to hear it run, it's a very old machine and having a hard time finding parts for it, it's old enough that it still has points

    • @WesleyJohnsonMI
      @WesleyJohnsonMI  ปีที่แล้ว

      @billlindsley1642 I swapped my points out to a solid ignition. Bought 2 of them for less than $10 for the pair. I think that I covered it in one of the videos on that machine, check my playlist. They are strong running machines and smooth arc when they run right. I paid $500 each, for both of the machines I bought. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I'll help if I can.

    I've got the same welder I'm trying to pull the engine to rebuild it but thear is a sleeve between the engine and the generator can you tell me if it comes off at this point or do I half to pull the armature out with it?

    • @WesleyJohnsonMI
      @WesleyJohnsonMI  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't believe it's an actual sleeve. From what I understand, it's a tapered shaft. There's some good info on the welding web forums about rebuilding & diagnosing these machines. I would look there for more information. That's where I've gotten some of mine from.
