I was probably 15 feet from President Trump yesterday. I was in the chairs in front of the stage, to the right. From what I've heard, President Trump's staff asked for more coverage because the lay out of the complex had multiple buildings within 200 meters of the stage. From my seat, I did see 2 SSA's on the roof to my right. Everyone on the ground level I remember instantly took cover at the first 3 rounds were fired. To be honest, those were at the time the only shots I remembered during the event. I remember seeing Trump give the okay and thumbs up as they were exiting him off, and then cops telling us to get to and get out. I was beside a family of 4, and when the cops told us to move the father took off instantly. The wife, a son about 16-18, a little girl, and the wife I escorted to the dad who was at the gate. To be honest, I feel like I need to give you credit Mike. I remembered listening to your Fight or Flight podcast, and I just tried to remain as calm as I could be. I'm not law enforcement, nor a military or vet, I'm just a normal blue collar dude who lives the podcast lol

@kollow apparently his fight was all flight. I mean I won't knock him too bad, it was nearly 100 degrees, he looked like he definitely had some heat exhaustion going on. He was drinking soda instead of actually hydrating, so his mind might have been off. I know mine was as I was searching for my truck for about an hour, only to realize I passed it twice before hand.

Complacency happens. It's been decades since the Secret Service has had actual shots fired on a former president or candidate, and the Trump campaign has their demands. I've been in the military 23 years and see it daily. The farther you get from real-world incidents, the more you don't worrying it happening actively from real experience (some from a lack of generational experience), and following the training and SOPs can get glosses over. I joined the military before Sept 11th, and that was a very different military than it was five to 10 years later. There's plenty of stuff I try to elevate and it's an uphill battle sometimes.

I am a Butler pa resident... The building the attacker was on was a company just outside the Farm show grounds... AGR its a manufacturer company... The roof the attacker was on is about the same Height as the Building the snipers were on so when he was army crawling up the backend of the roof it would have been extremely difficult for the snipers to see him until he reached the peak of the roof... One of the biggest mistakes other than not having guys on the AGR roof being that its one of the only high ground threats in the area...was when bystanders were yelling at local pd about the threat of a man with a riffle minutes before the first shot and local pd didnt do enough to prevent what happened...maybe local pd didnt have instant contact with secret service but Trump should of been covered before the firsy shot being that bystanders saw the boy crawling up the roof with a AR and was screaming to the police.... It's pretty basic VIP protection 101 to secure line of site shooting positions, especially when said position is only 120 meters away. Why on earth wasn't that done? Furthermore, the Secret Service counter snipers were in an elevated position and had clear lines on the shooter's perch. How did they not see him?
Now there are reports that local law enforcement was informed of this guy milling around that area with his weapon before the event even started, and passed that info on to the Secret Service. We also have numerous civilians in the crowd that saw him both climbing the ladder to the building, as well as climbing along the roof, and alerted authorities about it. Some were screaming "Gun! Gun!" repeatedly. And yet the shooter still got into position and got rounds off.
I have a lot of very serious questions about how this happened.

Mike, I have two questions. I think you stated there isn’t a plausible explanation for why that building wasn’t secured, it clearly should have been high on anyone’s threat assessment. My issue is this, what are the chances that a building that should have been secured, wasn’t secured, and a would be assassin just happens to go to that specific building? Second, there are many reports that citizens reported the gunman climbing onto the building, once these reports came in, why wasn’t President Trump immediately secured while the situation was sorted out? Nothing about this situation feels random to me.

SOTIC LVL 1 grad here ( Oct 2013)
It looked like to me they were scanning past shooters position. They didn’t anticipate someone that close. Zoomed in, sucked into scope, no situational awareness.
You can see when first shots break the flinch in reaction, and guy on left tips his rifle down to shoot at a much closer target.
They didn’t notice him. Failure on team to have different overwatch sectors

there were witnesses that saw him on the roof with a rifle 4 minutes before it happened, they informed the police of this!
there is video of him crawling on the roof and several people pointing him out to he police, this is on video!!!!!
the secret service sniper is pointed directly towards his position, there is no way they could have missed him!
just before it happened there are people screaming out loud that there is someone on the roof with a rifle!!!
i think this is what made him rush the shots and miss!
