I busted open my hori and quickly realized it was more complicated than the original controller.
Happy to see you’ve made this tutorial

Difference is night and day after cleaning. Fantastic tutorial man. Thank you.

I decided to clean mine primarily because the A button was sometimes sticking down. I discovered that the rubber membrane was all sticky, so someone probably spilled a drink on it. One of the screws for the analogue stick is missing too.
I like to clean the black contact pads on the rubber membrane with isopropyl alcohol. I find the buttons more responsive after that.

that stickbox is so neat. is the rubber stick the same one as the gamecube, or is that also slightly different? i can't really tell but it looks really nice to use

Does a gamecube stick fit as a replacement for the hori stick?

    yo, what's up man
First of, ty for the tutorial. Pretty clear and easy to follow up :)
I did end up with a problem, though. After cleaning the controller up, the left Z button started getting unresponsive
I gotta press it a bit harder now for it to be registered, or to maintain it held mid gameplay
This should be fine during casual sessions, but a big problem mid speedruns for example. I've tried cleaning the rubber membrane with isopropyl alcohol and reassembling the pieces as tight as possible btw
Do you have any idea of what's the source of this problem?

Isopropyl alcohol on both the membrane and on the Contact point for the Z button on the PCB or it could be that the membrane spot for your Z button could have a hole in it somewhere

Man, do you know if its possible to fix or replace the stick on these hori controllers? I got 2 from ebay and they tend to go to the right side.

The first thing I would do is to use a can of air a spray it inside the stick when you open the controller and take off the rubber grey stick

@@Mexican_Spongebob841 Thanks man! I did clean one of them so far and even if the stick still goes to the right, the character does not go in that direction as easy as before, I did not clean it with a air can though, but I will try with a blower and see if it works. thanks again!

I have the same issue man. It's so annoying. Literally bought a hori, it looks brand new and like nobody's used it. Stick rests to the right side. Did you manage to fix it?

Mine had a bit of black sticky residue so I stuck the tip of a toothbrush damp with isopropyl alcohol into the joystick once the rubber stick was off. But not sure if that's kosher. Just tested it out and it works perfectly now. Hopefully I didn't ruin the stick's innards by introducing alcohol but that sure did the trick for me.

@@Prnumba1kid1alcohol will never ruin anything electronics related. Just make sure you let it dry for a bit before plugging it back in. Use 91% if you can.
