      @Qasim Hussain Out of all henchmen in the Bond movies I've seen. (In my own personal opinion of course) His laugh was contagious whenever he was crushing things with his metal claw or feeding people to the crocodiles. I could relate to his quirky sense of humor !

      I’d have put Tee-Hee 3rd. For me it’s Odd Job (1st), Jaws, Tee-Hee, Mr Winn & Mr Kidd, Red Grant. I don’t think of Red Grant as a henchman though because he’s far more independent. He’s more a secondary villain. So maybe Fiona Volpe #5.

  • @LittenMandrake
    @LittenMandrake 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Necros gets my vote for most underrated henchman of the series. People always write him off as a Red Grant clone but he's a master of disguise, he has some of the most unique kills/weapons of any villain (exploding milk bottles, headphones strangulation, killer sliding door, etc), and he has multiple intense fight scenes. He's smart, tough, and really the most capable villain in his movie. Stamper is the generic clone everyone groups him in with but Necros is awesome and unique

      Except that Wint and Kidd were the most extreme examples of the common downfall of Bond villains, one which the Austin Powers movies have touched on a couple of times: the need to find a fancy way of killing Bond instead of just shooting him.
      Not once but twice during the movie they've got Bond unconscious at their feet and in a setting of complete privacy. Both times, Bond escapes because they've apparently never heard of these things called bullets.

    What is interesting is which one of these henchmen could be interchangeable throughout the different Bond eras and which ones would be out of place. For example, a Dario or a Grant could work in any Bond era yet if Nick Nack, Jaws or Oddjob showed up in a Dalton or Craig Bond movie it wouldn't work. Fatima blush/Fiona Volpe could work in any Bond movie..yet Xenia Onatopp or May Day would be ridiculous in a Dalton or Craig Bond movie. Although there were never female henchmen/henchwomen in any Dalton or Craig movie (I'm sure there would've been one in a Lazenby movie if had did a few more Bond movies).

    2) Red Grant (From Russia with Love) - he could have been just a big, blonde muscular heavy, yet Robert Shaw brings so much personality to his character

    6) Tee-Hee (Live and Let Die) : again, he’s not « just a quirk », Tee-Hee is also funny and more intellectual than we give him credit for
    7) Odd Job : double « duh »!
    8) Professor Dent (Dr No) : I really like how realistic and down to earth he is, far from the outlandish turn taken by the franchise from Goldfinger onwards

    10) Mr Wint and Mr Kidd (Diamonds are forever) : so campy yet menacing

    Love the video! I think Fatima blush goes a little to overboard for me in a similar way that moonraker just goes to far into the unbelievable. You can laugh and enjoy it, but it’s hard to feel menace and threat when the movie is a comedy. Whint and Kidd I think are extremely memorable but they might be disqualified since they are a couple and not a single henchmen?

    Think there should be a character in the Austin Powers movies called... Big Blonde Burly Henchman, who is always destined to fall into a pool of piranha fish towards the end, my Dad thinks they're all the same character, which is funny, bless, I had to explain it to him that all of these characters die, usually very horrible deaths and Bond henchmen don't usually come back as zombies!

    Lotte Lenya was an Aunt on my Mother's side. I never met her but when I saw FRWL I wrote her a letter asking WHY my Aunt was on the screen trying to KILL James Bond ? She read the letter & called us from New York and told me she laughed for 10 minutes when she read the letter. We had a nice talk on the phone after she talked to my Mother and I wish I had met her in person. I was 10 when I saw FRWL.

    For once, I have to agree with every choice on your list!
    Fun fact: Richard Kiel (JAWS) appeared in THE MAN FROM UNCLE, THE WILD WILD WEST (as Michael Dunn's henchman!), and, THE MONKEES (in a parody of "Frankenstein").
    Something that kinda baffles me: when Ian Fleming wrote his novelization of the unfilmed "Thunderball", he really tightened it up and created what I feel is by far the best version of the story. Except... there was NO Fatima (her original name) or Fiona! I can't imagine doing a version of the story without her.
    In the novel "Goldfinger", Oddjob was sucked out of the plane window, while Goldfinger went down when the plane crashed. Gee... just like in 1983's "OCTOPUSSY". (heh)
    For more of Luciana Paluzzi, see one of my favorite Japanese sci-fi monster films... "THE GREEN SLIME".
    Dario just reeked "CRAZY". It's a good thing Bond was in the drug factory when he was confronted, I think he might have had real trouble trying to convince that guy that he was on Sanchez' side.

    Very good list bro. For me Oddjob and Jaws is top 2. But I agree that Xenia is in the top of the henchmen / woman too. Fatima Blush is also a really good character and def the best part of Never Say Never Again. But I miss Necros from the list. He is a great henchman.

  • @mariakelly5
    @mariakelly5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Another great list, but although I can't understand why you would pick Xenia for your number one Bond henchman, for sentimental reasons I would have picked either Oddjob or Red Grant.
    As for Jaws, I totally agree with you about the differences in the way the character was portrayed in the two movies he was in. In TSWLM, he was a lot more menacing. In Moonraker, he was more like Wiley E. Coyote in the Warner Bros. Roadrunner cartoons ( with Bond being the Roadrunner, of course).
    Fun fact: The actor who played Oddjob, Harold Sakata, won an Olympic Bronze Medal in Weightlifting.

    • @DutchBondFan
      @DutchBondFan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maria Kelly Hahaha Wall E Coyote! 😂 Thats priceless. Wish I called him that in the Moonraker recap. The falling of the waterfall only needed a "help" sign followed by the cartoony slide whistle when he falls down the waterfall!

    • @mariakelly5
      @mariakelly5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DutchBondFan Good one! BTW, in Goldfinger, Moonraker, and Die Another Day, there are a lot of Korean villians and/or henchmen (although Harold Sakata was a Japanese-American from Hawaii). What is it with Koreans and Bond?
      Another fun fact: Do you remember when the ruler of North Korea, Kim Jung Un had his people hack into the Sony Pictures computers a few years ago? Well, rumor has it that he's a huge Bond fan and he wanted to see the details about Spectre, which EON and SONY were trying to keep secret.

    I always thought Oddjob was a cartoon character, crushing golf balls in his hand indeed. That was just stupid. I always found Grant in FRWL to be far more unsettling. He could be anywhere hiding silently in the shadows. That scene of him waiting outside the room ready to kill Tania if she did not play ball was extremely chilling.
