At first I thought Robert Davi was going to be playing a generic drug kingpin character (pre-credits and Florida scenes), but the longer 'License To Kill' goes on the better the material he gets to work with and I agree that he is one of the very best and most believable Bond villains.
I would say that my favorite Bond villain of all time is Blofeld portrayed by Telly Savalas in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. I know that he may not be the most iconic version of Blofeld, but honestly Telly Savalas’s Blofeld is a Bond villain who I feel like has a combination of all the different types of Bond villains. He’s charming, intelligent, and he looks like someone who could beat Bond in a fight while not looking cartoonishly big. I know people criticize this version of Blofeld for having an American accent and for not having a cheek scar, but I don’t think the version needed those things to make him a threatening villain.
I believe Dr. No was supposed to be both Chinese and German hence why he doesn't look fully Asian. I would've put him in the Top 5 at least because he really did set the template for future Bond villains.
Agreed. The issue with Dr No as a film is that they don't know what to do with him, as he doesn't get much screen time for the length of the film and given he is the title character.
"DutchBondFan" is evidently unaware of the fact that Dr. No is _half-Chinese_ (and half-German). The Quebecois actor in this role is arguably less obtuse than Connery clumsily disguised as a Japanese fisherman, or Toby Stephens as a North Korean (Colonel Moon character transformed as Gustav Graves character).
Joseph Wiseman is pretty forgotten, but he played brilliant role in 1951's Detective story and Chicago boss Manny Weisboard in classic TV show Crime Story.
Apparently Davi came up with the line “Loyalty is more important to me than money” himself... I love when actors are allowed to really create and develop their characters themselves a little as they go along... Javier Bardem did it too
I agree with your list. Sanchez is a great villain and License to Kill gets better every time I see it. I wish Dalton could've done one more Bond film. He was way ahead of his time.
I would of loved to see Dalton play opposite Walken in A View to a Kill. A lot of what I didn't like about that film was Roger Moore and his advanced age and the movie suffered for it.
@@joecrow5484 it's crazy to think of that man. I think Dalton would of been excellent since he wasn't to old for that movie. But broznan just fit so perfectly in goldeneye. But if Dalton got that part we wouldn't know any different
they ruined him by making him a pawn of Spectre, though. He was vastly better as a stand-alone with his own motivations, which is what he was before they retrofitted him into a "narrative."
Yeah, but Bont fans are all butthurt that Bont got killed trying to take him down, so won't acknowledge him. That damn henchman... he didn't even appreciate the Denver Broncos he got in return.
I really like Walken's laugh just before he dies. I remember as a kid thinking, 'what an odd thing to do.' I also agree with Robert Davi. He really inhabited that role. In that clip, I always liked how the henchman hands him the axe without Davi asking. As if this death scenario happens all the time!
I'm old enough to remember "License To Kill" getting panned when it was released due to its violence and somber tone, so it's nice to watch the film receive the love it deserves 30 years later.
All villains in LTK were impressive and particularly well played and I fully agree with Sanchez being the series best ever villain, even ahead of Goldfinger.
Robert Davi was amazing in that role and fitted the changes in Bond himself. With Timothy Dalton we got a grittier, more action oriented Bond and we needed a villain to match that. Robert Davi gave the Dalton era the perfect villain for Dalton’s style, with a more rounded and less overblown character. I love the big villains of the series with the grandiose plans, but Robert was the perfect villain for that time and is easily one of the best of the entire series.
Silva is and always has been my favourite Bond Villain. I find him such a brilliant character. He’s dark, sadistic, cruel but is so tragic. I love how he has a genuine reason for wanting M to die. He isn’t a villain for no reason, he actually has a purpose and is one of the only villain who wins at the end. He doesn’t see his full victory but still wins and that’s why o love him
I have thought Davi's portrayal has been unsung for some time now and agree Sanchez is the most intriguing admixture of villainy, charm and old world values in the entire 007 series.
I’d say Rosa counts as a villain. Dr No was under the direction of Blofeld (although we don’t learn that till FRWL) and he was obviously a main villain. More importantly we see Largo get instructions from Blofeld in Thunderball and he’s considered a Bond villain.
Actually "Largo" was Villain in "Never_Say_Never_Again" where He was about to Kill Bond when Bond was Defusing the Nuclear Bomb but his Girlfriend "Domino" Killed him at the exact moment to save Bond's "ASS"... 😁😅
Well, if you think, that Gert Froebe was filming "Goldfinger" AND "Those magnificent men in their flying machines" at the very same time... he was a really great actor! "Rumpelstoss, today we go diving!"
One of my personal favorites remains still the over-the-top Never Say Never Again and especially the mesmerizing chilling and completely convincing Klaus Maria Brandauer as the villain Maximilian Largo.
Watching this again after a few years and watching some of the films again, I really appreciate Kamal Khan more than I did. Louis Jourdan gave a great understated performance. He's so convincing when he explains that throwing two sixes is all in the wrist. Like if we were going to be cheated, we'd prefer he do it. I also appreciated Drax more than I did. I'd like to think he just barely missed this list. It's funny how some villains just don't make the list, especially the Blofelds. I think the Blofelds spend too much time behind the desk and not enough scenes where Bond outwits them and they fail to have that classic adversarial relationship with Bond.
Love to see Licence to Kill and Sanchez/Davi get some love, totally agree. Don’t know about Dr. No, I find him even less memorable than Aris Kristatos (although the latter has an advantage as FYEO is my other favourite Bond film alongside LTK).
And yes to Sanchez!!!! He’s so multifaceted, his organization is well thought out and believable, and he plays it so cool throughout the film until Bond finally gets into his head and turns him against his own organization... he becomes terrifying and brutal. I also love his array of henchmen. They all compliment him perfectly.
Honourable Mention: Elliot Carver & Max Zorin 10: Le Chiffre 9: Kamal Khan 8: Kronsteen 7: Dr. No 6: Ernst Stavro Blofeld 5: Elektra King 4:Alec Trevelyan 3:Francisco Scaramanga 2: Franz Sanchez 1: Auric Goldfinger
Glad to see that Kamal Khan was mentioned. He was a great villain and does not get enough recognition. But I think Largo from Thunderball and Hugo Drax from Moonraker, deserved at least honorable mentions. And Donald Pleasence's Blofeld definitely belongs in the top ten.
Sanchez is my favorite Bond villain! I'm happy someone else was able to recognize how well-written a character he was. Great list, the video that made me subscribe to this great channel!
Excellent list! Yup Robert Davi was amazing. I'm so happy license to kill has aged so well amongst general audiences now, I rarely find someone that dislikes the film or Robert Davi's performance. I think if the next Craig bond film is going to go back to basics and try and make a clever espionage spy story, that it would benefit from a realistic gritty villain like Sanchez, or maybe even use a woman villain, I do wonder how Craig's bond would fare against her.
I feel like Mr. White, despite never being the main villain of a film, should have gotten place on the list, or at least an honourable mention. He is a middleman in the nebulous gray area between villain and henchman, who had a tremendously outsized impact on multiple movies despite his limited screen, in no small part due to Jesper Christenson’s fantastic portrayal.
Excellent list man! I was pleasantly surprised to see Sanchez at number one, he truly is one of the best villains, Dark yes but as you said well rounded, he is the most multi-dimensional villain of the lot.
After killing Bond at the end of "From Russia With Love", Fleming's next project was a screenplay for an unfilmed TV pilot about a different character. The main villain for the story, a tribute to Dr. Fu Manchu, was created specifically to give his cousin, Lee, a main villain role (at a time before his career really took off). The script was turned into his next novel, "DR. NO", and while Lee did not star in the eventual movie, he did wind up playing 2 different Asian villains, including Fu Manchu-- 5 times.
My top 10 villains ( great list by the way ) 10. Hugo Drax 9. Dr Kananga 8. Emilio Largo 7. Kamal Kahn 6. Goldfinger 5. Elektra King 4. Le Chiffre 3. Dr No 2. Franz Sanchez 1. Scaramanga
I might be a little jaded as "Moonraker" was my first Bond film, but I always liked Hugo Drax(Michael Lonsdale) as a Bond villain. Always had a great dry one liner while plotting, executing or attempting to intimidate...he's eminently quotable. "Look after Mr. Bond. See that some harm comes to him." "At least I'll have the pleasure of putting you out of my misery." "Mr. Bond, you continue to defy my efforts to provide you with an amusing death." "And you, the treacherous Dr. Goodhead. Your dream of becoming the first woman in space is about to be granted." And even if he's almost a carbon copy of Carl Stromberg from "The Spy who loved Me," I admire the scope of his master plan better(then again, I'm a science fiction fan, so...yeah...).
Wow! What you said about Elektra King is very, very true. In a way, it is because of her, Christie from the Dead or Alive series exists. She was the same way as Elektra, seductive AND deadly. Other than that, that was an well put list. Every Bond villain are memorable in their own right.
Rosa Klebb is very much the main villain of FRWL. The fact that she’s just carrying out Blofeld’s orders doesn’t make it less so. After all, later in this video you point out LeChiffre is a pawn of a greater power himself. Rosa Klebb is to FRWL as Darth Vader is to the original Star Wars trilogy. Other than that, this is a great list and I love your videos 😀
Good to see you singing the praises of Octopussy. Dr No is my favourite literary Bond villain. In the book he is omnipotent. And my favourite cinematic Bond villain is Scaramanga..
10. Raul Silva 09. Rosa Klebb and Spectre 08. Hugo Drax 07. Le Chiffre 06.Francisco Scaramanga 05. Alec Trevelyan 04. Ernst Stavro Bloefeld (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) 03. Elecktra King 02. Auric Goldfinger 01. Franz Sanches
Oh Yes Le Chiffre was freaking awesome This movie was the breakthrew for Mads Mikkelsen in the US . The danish actor became crazy popular after that and it's well deserved . His role as Le Chiffre opened so many doors for him . Now he's been in 3 of the biggest movie franchises ( including James Bond of course , Marvel, Star Wars) And he became my favorite Hannibal Lecter th-cam.com/video/z8xvf_Wr2SM/w-d-xo.html
I've always thought that Jonathan Pryce as Elliott Carver was very memorable for the right reasons. Totally convincing and he came across as realistic too, as that is probably how a mega powerful media mogul would be, i.e. someone who despite all their wealth and power is ultimately a very weak man. He had some of the best one liners as well. "There's no news like bad news" was my favourite and the tone in which he expressed them was delicious and cutting in equal measure.
5) Blofeld (OHMSS - not other 2) 4) Francisco Scaramaga (TMWTGG) 3) Alec Trevelyan (Goldeneye) 2) Raoul Silva (Skyfall) 1) Goldfinger (Goldfinger) Funny Enough. My top 3 are all in my top 4 films of the franchise and 4 and 5 are in my bottom 6 films.
Christopher Lee gave a chilling performance in the original Wicker Man. I've always loved his ability to convey the sophisticated terror of his malevolent characters.
Really good video! Can easily see your points with all of these. Like yourself I was never a fan of the Bloefeld character, so it's nice not to have that clogging up your top 10. Well done!
Agree. Robert Davi as Sanchez was excellent. His performance made "Licence to Kill" one of my all time favourite Bond films. Thanks Duchbondfan for another outstanding review/ranking.
This is pretty much my own list 😆 I love your take on the series as a whole. You popped up on my algorithm because I'm a fan of Calvin Dyson. It's almost disappointing that I'm almost through your videos.
1. Max Zorin 2. Raoul Silva 3. Auric Goldfinger 4. Francisco Scaramanga 5. Alec Trevelyan 6. Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Savalas) 7. Franz Sanchez 8. Elektra King 9. Karl Stromberg 10. Kamal Khan
My top 10 bond villains in no order 10 Max zorin 9 Hugo drax 8 Karl stromberg 7 Raoul silva 6 Frncisco scaramanga 5 le chiffre 4 dr kanaga 3 Franz schansez 2 emilio largo 1 goldfinger
with a believable disguise, he may well have been. as it is, he's still good, but not iconic. LALD has never been one of my favorites, but kananga does his job well. too bad his death is such a farce.
1. General Orlov. A looney character played with looney perfection. His face simultaneously radiates menace and charm like a 100-watt light bulb. The most profound death scene. 2. Emilio Largo. He is the best anti-Bond, and he almost killed Bond on his own. A Number 2 executive who is also a competent platoon leader, works hard and plays hard, has the coolest boat with the coolest name and a gorgeous mistress. 3. Sanchez. 4. Le Chiffre. 5. General Gogol. Not a true villain, but he is a very respectable opponent who deserves a tribute. Leaving politics aside, I think Bond would like Gogol better than M as a boss. I wish he could make a cameo appearance in Goldeneye as a retired and frail old man, and give a few words of wisdom to Bond. That would be a nice way to wrap up his career and add more depth and continuity to the film. 6. Boris Grishenko. The only computer hacker in the series and so passionate about his work. I wish the new Q could look more like him. The funniest death scene. 7. Dominic Greene. QoS has grown on me over time, and I’ve developed a soft spot for Greene. His personality is a little murky but that also makes him mysterious and interesting. And there’s the subtle chemistry between him and Elvis.... The epic ax fight is a nice surprise. The most pathetic ending. 8. Aris Kristatos. Elegant and sophisticated, perfect fit for the most elegant and understated film in the series. 9. Dr. Carl Mortner. This underdeveloped character has a lot of unused potential, because he is so evil. I think he would be a more suitable villain against the aging Roger Moore. 10. Tov Kronsteen. A very memorable character despite so little screen time, gives off a similar vibe as Le Chiffre. His first appearance at the chess match is as impressive as Bond’s first appearance at the casino table in Dr. No. And they both know how to hold a cigarette. Honorable mention: Jacques Bouvar. He is smart enough to be Number 6 in Spectre, almost escapes Bond’s assasination by staging his own death, and then attends his own funeral disguised as his own widow. There are enough plots to make a prequel film. I prefer villains who are more down to earth and hands on. I’m not a fan of haughty supervillains with ostentatious settings (No, Gustav, Drax, Stromberg, Zorin, Kamal, and Blofeld). I enjoy watching those lairs and palaces from a tourist’s perspective, but my admiration goes to the architects, not the owners. I don’t like villains who are mega rich but still cheat on little guys in games simply because they need to win all the time (Goldfinger, Zorin, Kamal), or villains who let their personal grudge get in the way of their schemes or even become the main focus of their schemes (Alec, Electra, Scaramanga, Silva). That’s just petty and unprofessional. I also don’t like grown up villains who still have daddy/mommy issues (Electra, Gustav, Silva), or still have silly obsessions about superstition (Kananga, Scaramanga), porn (Elliot Carver), or selfie (Whitaker).
I've been a subscriber for a long while now and I am glad to see that you are getting more subscribers. Your channel is amazing although I was sad to see you move away from the GTA videos Keep up the good work
Christopher Lee acts great as assassins, because - He fought in Winter War - Fought in SAS - Was a hitman in Europe hunting natzs. Auric goldfingers actor actually was a natzi and when this leaked in news the movie was banned in many countries. When jew couple informed media that Gert Fröbe saved them in WW2 the movie was unbanned :D
Good production and clip work as usual, though I miss your usual humor here. We have about half the same villians in our top ten but I don't have the disdain you do for Charles Grey or Blofeld - perhaps it's because the first two movies I saw were OHMSS and DAF, both with Blofeld, so that was my standard for Bond villains. My ten best villains list: 10-Elliot Carver (Jonathan Pryce); 9-Franz Sanchez (Robert Davi); 8-Aristotle Kristatos (Julian Glover); 7-Emilio Largo (Emilio Largo); 6-Elektra King (Sophie Marceau); 5-Ernst Stavro Blofeld - OHMSS (Telly Savalas); 4-Raoul Silva - Skyfall (Javier Bardem); 3-Ernst Stavro Blofeld - DAF (Charles Gray); 2-Maximilian Largo - NSNA (Klaus Maria Brandauer); 1-Auric Goldfinger (Gert Frobe)
Here’s my list 10. Elektra King 9. Dr Kananga 8. Franz Sanchez 7. Elliott Carver 6. Dr No 5. Rosa Klebb 4. Kamal Kahn 3. Goldfinger 2. Emilio Largo 1. Scaramanga
I was really surprised with the no.1 pick as he seems more like someone who would appear in Scarface than in a Bond movie, but I do certainly think he's underappreciated. I think he might be the only Bond villain from that era who was truly intimidating because he seemed like someone who could almost appear in real life.
Merry Christmas 007! I agree that Kahmal Kan is underrated, but i love Donald's Blofeld! Keep up the good work anyway when will you do another livestream?
I love Charles gray, he’s super funny. You also missed an incredible performance from Johnathan Pryce as Elliot Carver, he’s so out there and amazing, it’s actually a really cool plot when you think about the scheme.
Dr. No Goldfinger Largo Scaramanga Zorin Sanchez Trevelyan Carver LeChiffre Silva Honourable Mentions: Klebb Blofeld (Pleasance/Savalas) Worst Bond Villain is Dominic Greene
A great list! I agree with what you say about Sanchez. With your review on License To Kill, I can tell that Franz Sanchez is way up there for you haha😂. Mine will be..... 1) Alec Trevelyan (Goldeneye) - Great character, great backstory and great personality. The 'Dark Side of Bond' villains are my favourite type of Bond villains and Trevelyan is no exception. His plot is good and his fight with Bond in the end is one of the best in the series. 2) Le 'Chiffre (Casino Royale '06) - Another great performance by Mads Mikkelsen. This guy is so creepy and cold and the poker game that sees him and Bond face off mentally and psychologically is so good. 3) Auric Goldfinger (Goldfinger) - A classic Bond villain. He is such an iconic villain with scenes so memorable like the lazer scene and the golf scene. His Operation Grand Slam is great as well. 4) Franz Sanchez (License To Kill) - OH BOY. Sanchez is someone you wouldn't want to mess with. He's charming, knowledgeable and if you piss him off or double cross him, down right brutal. 5) Raoul Silva (Skyfall) - After Quantum Of Solace had a cardboard cutout of a villain like Dominic Greene. Silva was such a breath of fresh air. He's so menacing and terrifying and utterly insane. Think The Joker, Jaws and Alec Trevelyan wrapped in one with a backstory about revenge and hatred of MI6. 6) Franscisco Scaramanga (The Man With The Golden Gun) - I mean it's Christopher Lee, the guy known for Count Dooku, Dracula, Sarumon. He is incredibly charming, skillful and his golden gun is so cool 7) Ernst Stavro Blofeld - The arch-nemesis of Bond and leader of SPECTRE. He is THE Bond villain that everyone knows. He's threatening, vile and cunning but his character is varies from time to time. So if I were to rank all the Blofelds..... 1. Anthony Dawson/Eric Pohlmann 2. Donald Pleaseance 3. Telly Savalas 4. Christoph Waltz 5. Charles Gray 6. John Hollis/Robert Rietty 8) Hugo Drax (Moonraker) - No matter what many people says, I enjoyed Moonraker and Hugo Drax was one of those reasons why. He is quiet and collected and very evil. His plan is also pretty good 9) Elektra King (The World is Not Enough) - The first ever female Bond villain. She is such a delight to watch. Her plot was great and how she manipulate everyone to achieve her goal. She is cunning, cruel and evil that Sophie Marceau played well 10) Dr Kananga/Mr Big (Live And Let Die) - He is a great villain. He is cold, menacing and is a joy to watch. His plot is also good too. HMs: Kamal Khan, Max Zorin, Emillio Largo, Doctor Julius No. DMs: Gustave Graves/Colonel Moon, Karl Stromberg, Brad Whittaker Worst: Dominic Greene
I like Joseph Wiseman as Dr. No. It's a creepy, cold performance and it's clear that this is an intelligent villain. The problem is lack of screen time.
The 10 best villains (no order except #1) 1. Goldfinger (no contest) Le Chiffre Red Grant 006/Trevelyan Scaramanga Silva Blofeld Dr No Elektra King Max Zorin
At 14:47 Craig's Bond Said that (Now the Whole World is gotta know that you died Scratching my "BALLS") I think that was both Awesome and Funny Dialogue at the same time. 😁😅😂🤣 😍😍
Yo, Dutch Bond fan you're my boy yo! Not only is Timothy Dalton my favorite Bond, but you also chose one of my favorite Bond villains as your number one... That makes you number one! I loved Robert Davi in this movie, as well as Benicio del Toro. But I think the best part is that we see Q in the field and he's actually a decent field agent! Keep doing what you're doing bud you're fantastic!
Steven Beoethy I was so happy that Desmond Llewellyn got so much screen time in License To Kill. He truly deserved it, and he was a joy to watch as a Field Agent.
Great video man! I agree with the list, though for me it's Goldfinger and 006 at the top for me. So iconic. Thanks for the laughs on the videos too! Keep them coming!
The scene of Javier Bardem caressing Bond in Skyfall instantly reminded me of the scene in Lawrence of Arabia where Jose Ferrer as the evil Turk creepily feels up the restrained Peter O'Toole. I think Bardem may have found some inspiration from that scene.
I also happen to agree with the #1 choice here. I was 17 years old when I watched License to Kill at the movie theater in summer 1989. That movie, I even knew then would probably never be one of the most popular Bond movies, but I knew they did NOT run out of ideas for it. Yeah to me, Sanchez was definitely one of the most memorable and most brutal of all the Bond villains that I could remember well. And boy did he get it in the end when Bond set him on fire. And License to Kill is one of he Bond movies, I've chosen to have in my collection.
Alec is definitely my favorite bond villain by far. His motivation is the most personal and grounded being rooted in an actual historical tragedy that makes you feel really sympathetic for him. The fact that he knows all of (or at least most) of Bond's tricks really makes come off as extremely competent and threatening. Plus Sean Bean is just a great actor in general. The reason he wants to steal the gold isn't so much that he wants to become super rich, but rather it is to bankrupt the UK financially destroying the country that betrayed his people. He wants the British people to experience the same hardships that his people did. I feel it's a lot more believable than nuking the place as so many other villains wanted to do.
I don’t have Blofeld from YOLT in my top 10 either. I also agree that Charles Gray is the worst villain in the franchise. My top 3 villains : 3. Alec Trevalyn 2. Max Zorin 1. Francisco Scaramanga
I'v always being a great fan of the Bond movies. As an artist and painter I only did Live and let die to a painting but will do more ofcourse in the future. This videos show all the things in the movies you would probably would haved missed and rewatching them over again. I think I must agree: Sanchez is one of the best Bond villains or perhaps the best. You really a dutchman as well? you speak really good English and I like the voice over in some scenes during the movie commentary rewatch.
Awesome, would be very interested in seeing that painting! Feel free to share it with me on my Facebook fanpage in a private message for example! Also yes I am a 100% Dutchman. Thanks for your compliment on my English!
Quantum is planned before the end of the year. I'm spreading out the other two over 2019, and of course do other projects in between. Follow me on social media or keep an eye out on the community tab on my channel to always stay updated on things like that!
I agree with you: Sanchez is the most underrated villain of the franchise, but Robert Davies made an incredible job, also with Dalton. That movie is so good, one of the best Bonds.
At first, I found some of your fav villains too low-key, not unique enough for Bond, but I must admit the brilliance of the actors that played them. It made me see that, in retrospect, Dalton's films were already doing what the Craig films were aiming for and, IMHO, did it better. Also, kudos for recognizing Scaramanga; it was one of Lee's quirkiest performances, making Scaramanga a truly 3 dimensional villain in spite of the script's limitations.
My top 10: 1. Blofeld (Thunderball/From Russia with Love) 2. Alec Trevelyan 3. Elektra King 4. Le Chiffre 5. Raoul Silva 6. Franz Sanchez 7. Francisco Scaramanga 8. Elliot Carver 9. Hugo Drax 10. Auric Goldfinger Honorable mentions: Dr. No Lyutsifer Safin Mr. Big
Great video as always, keep up the amazing work!!! My personal favorite Bond villain is Dominic Greene why well he is very intimidating despite his size and lack of security he has one of the most epic fights with bond ever which was very unexpected considering he’s just a businessman as well as his plan being simple yet very effective I mean taking Bolivia’s water supply may seem odd or stupid but water is essential and people would pay top dollar for it I don’t understand why people dislike him he’s the only Bond villain (excluding Stamper) that genuinely freaked me out and when a villain does that u know u have a good villain
I know people criticize this version of Blofeld for having an American accent and for not having a cheek scar, but I don’t think the version needed those things to make him a threatening villain.
plus I think Savalas' smooth american accent made for a better villain voice and Charles Gray's posh british accent
Robert Davi as Franz Sanches is just frighteningly good. He is at No.1 for a reason. But nice list man!

Elektra King was played wonderfully by Sophie Marceau. One of the Best Bond Villains/Bond Girls of all time.

my absolute favorite Simpsons episode, along with the spoof of The Prisoner.

I'm old enough to remember "License To Kill" getting panned when it was released due to its violence and somber tone, so it's nice to watch the film receive the love it deserves 30 years later.
Who knew that Benicio Del Toro would have such a great career and be a future Oscar winner from his small role in License to Kill?
True. Not many of the sidekicks or villians in Bond movies used their screentime to start an impressive career.
We gave her a nice honeymoooooooon
He nailed this role. Wickedly good .
All villains in LTK were impressive and particularly well played and I fully agree with Sanchez being the series best ever villain, even ahead of Goldfinger.

He doesn’t see his full victory but still wins and that’s why o love him
I agree about Sanchez and Licence to kill is probably my favourite bond film
License to kill isn't even the best Dalton film
It’s one of my favourite films ever
It's my fav too.
I think Dr No was a good villain, he just didnt get enough screen time. I would have put him up higher on the list.
Honourable Mention: Elliot Carver & Max Zorin
10: Le Chiffre
9: Kamal Khan
8: Kronsteen
7: Dr. No
6: Ernst Stavro Blofeld
5: Elektra King
4:Alec Trevelyan
3:Francisco Scaramanga
2: Franz Sanchez
1: Auric Goldfinger
Glad to see that Kamal Khan was mentioned. He was a great villain and does not get enough recognition. But I think Largo from Thunderball and Hugo Drax from Moonraker, deserved at least honorable mentions. And Donald Pleasence's Blofeld definitely belongs in the top ten.
Sanchez is my favorite Bond villain! I'm happy someone else was able to recognize how well-written a character he was. Great list, the video that made me subscribe to this great channel!
Easily the best one! Welcome aboard!
8:13 but he certainly looks half European/half asian, which is what Dr. No is
Excellent list man! I was pleasantly surprised to see Sanchez at number one, he truly is one of the best villains, Dark yes but as you said well rounded, he is the most multi-dimensional villain of the lot.
License to Kill has an amazing set of villains.
And also realistic
My top 3 would probably be
1) Goldfinger
2) Le Chiffre
3) Alec Trevelyan (006)
Glad Sanchez is on the list, although he is a lot lower on mine.
Fun fact: Christopher Lee was Ian Flemming's step cousin.
Even more of a fun fact he said that
After killing Bond at the end of "From Russia With Love", Fleming's next project was a screenplay for an unfilmed TV pilot about a different character. The main villain for the story, a tribute to Dr. Fu Manchu, was created specifically to give his cousin, Lee, a main villain role (at a time before his career really took off). The script was turned into his next novel, "DR. NO", and while Lee did not star in the eventual movie, he did wind up playing 2 different Asian villains, including Fu Manchu-- 5 times.
awesome intro and editing. You are really stepping up with each video
Definitely Agreed with Sanchez
So glad you put Elektra King on your list. I always thought love and sex would be the ultimate weapon against Bond.
My top 10 villains ( great list by the way )
10. Hugo Drax
9. Dr Kananga
8. Emilio Largo
7. Kamal Kahn
6. Goldfinger
5. Elektra King
4. Le Chiffre
3. Dr No
2. Franz Sanchez
Bond. See that some harm comes to him."
"At least I'll have the pleasure of putting you out of my misery."
"Mr. Bond, you continue to defy my efforts to provide you with an amusing death."
"And you, the treacherous Dr. Goodhead. Your dream of becoming the first woman in space is about to be granted."
And even if he's almost a carbon copy of Carl Stromberg from "The Spy who loved Me," I admire the scope of his master plan better(then again, I'm a science fiction fan, so...yeah...).
Great and memorable lines.
“That time he was thrown down a chimney in a wheelchair” Hate when that happens!
I mean I like the scene. You just made it sound like such a minor inconvenience to him, I just had to laugh 😂
Just subscribed to your channel, dude! Its hilarious! Favorite Bond Villain: Silva or Zorin Best Bond Villain: can't go wrong with Goldfinger.
Good to see you singing the praises of Octopussy. Dr No is my favourite literary Bond villain. In the book he is omnipotent. And my favourite cinematic Bond villain is Scaramanga..
Scaramanga is THE best I agree
10. Raul Silva
09. Rosa Klebb and Spectre
08. Hugo Drax
07. Le Chiffre
06.Francisco Scaramanga
05. Alec Trevelyan
04. Ernst Stavro Bloefeld (On Her Majesty's Secret Service)
03. Elecktra King
02. Auric Goldfinger
01. Franz Sanches
Oh Yes Le Chiffre was freaking awesome
This movie was the breakthrew for Mads Mikkelsen in the US . The danish actor became crazy popular after that and it's well deserved . His role as Le Chiffre opened so many doors for him .
Now he's been in 3 of the biggest movie franchises ( including James Bond of course , Marvel, Star Wars)
And he became my favorite Hannibal Lecter
th-cam.com/video/z8xvf_Wr2SM/w-d-xo.html
He was also the best character in the Clive Owen King Arthur movie
I've always thought that Jonathan Pryce as Elliott Carver was very memorable for the right reasons. Totally convincing and he came across as realistic too, as that is probably how a mega powerful media mogul would be, i.e. someone who despite all their wealth and power is ultimately a very weak man. He had some of the best one liners as well. "There's no news like bad news" was my favourite and the tone in which he expressed them was delicious and cutting in equal measure.
5) Blofeld (OHMSS - not other 2)
4) Francisco Scaramaga (TMWTGG)
3) Alec Trevelyan (Goldeneye)
2) Raoul Silva (Skyfall)
1) Goldfinger (Goldfinger)
Funny Enough. My top 3 are all in my top 4 films of the franchise and 4 and 5 are in my bottom 6 films.
OHMSS bottom 6?!
God I forgot Giovanni was essentially Pokémon Blofeld.
Bond has the best villains of any series ever. Also hi Dutch
Well done!
'An eye that appears to be on its period' I'll never watch Casino Royale in the same way again...
It's almost disappointing that I'm almost through your videos.
i like the line "i want you to know this is nothing personal, it i purely buissness" by sanchez
I'm so happy I came across your channel. Your humor and editing is amazing!
Welcome aboard! Enjoy catching up on the content!
1. Max Zorin
2. Raoul Silva
3. Auric Goldfinger
4. Francisco Scaramanga
5. Alec Trevelyan
6. Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Savalas)
7. Franz Sanchez
8. Elektra King
9. Karl Stromberg
10. Kamal Khan
Great vid I love Sanchez too I’m surprised I for sure thought you’d put Telly savales on the list
My top 10 bond villains in no order
10 Max zorin
9 Hugo drax
8 Karl stromberg
7 Raoul silva
6 Frncisco scaramanga
5 le chiffre
4 dr kanaga
3 Franz schansez
2 emilio largo
1 goldfinger
I love your takes. We are watching all the bind movies in a row currently. We are on never say never again currently
I think Kananga deserves to be one of the best. A genuine iconic villain
with a believable disguise, he may well have been. as it is, he's still good, but not iconic.
LALD has never been one of my favorites, but kananga does his job well. too bad his death is such a farce.
Found him underwhelming. He isn’t even my favourite villain from LALD. Tee Hee is.
1. Le Chiffre
2.Auric Goldfinger
3.Aristotle Kristatos
4.Kamal Khan
5.Franz Sanchz
6.Max Zorin
7.Raoul Silva
8.Renard
9.Alec Trevelyan
10.Elektra King
Well done!! I really enjoy your videos!
My favorite Bond villain is Goldfinger.
Great list. It’s cool to see some love for Sanchez. He exudes such menace and paranoia.
I've been a subscriber for a long while now and I am glad to see that you are getting more subscribers. Your channel is amazing although I was sad to see you move away from the GTA videos
Keep up the good work
Christopher Lee acts great as assassins, because
- He fought in Winter War
- Fought in SAS
- Was a hitman in Europe hunting natzs.
Auric goldfingers actor actually was a natzi and when this leaked in news the movie was banned in many countries. When jew couple informed media that Gert Fröbe saved them in WW2 the movie was unbanned :D
i like Gert Frobe from Goldfinger, which i saw way back in 1964.
no t in nazis good title
Here’s my list
10. Elektra King
9. Dr Kananga
8. Franz Sanchez
7. Elliott Carver
6. Dr No
5. Rosa Klebb
4. Kamal Kahn
3. Goldfinger
2. Emilio Largo
1. Scaramanga
I was really surprised with the no.1 pick as he seems more like someone who would appear in Scarface than in a Bond movie, but I do certainly think he's underappreciated. I think he might be the only Bond villain from that era who was truly intimidating because he seemed like someone who could almost appear in real life.
Great List!!! I have Half of those on My List !!!! Mr. Kananga Should be in this List as well!!!
Awsum DBF, nice one , eagerly waiting for casino royale!!
Merry Christmas 007! I agree that Kahmal Kan is underrated, but i love Donald's Blofeld! Keep up the good work anyway when will you do another livestream?
Dr Goldfinger Thanks, I usually do . live stream randomly, I'll do it again soon.
I love Charles gray, he’s super funny.
You also missed an incredible performance from Johnathan Pryce as Elliot Carver, he’s so out there and amazing, it’s actually a really cool plot when you think about the scheme.
Check out "SHOCK TREATMENT", where Gray gets to play the HERO-- and by the end of the movie, get to sing AND dance!
Agree on Charles Grey but he is horrible as the Blofeld character. They should have made him his own villain
Me: *watches video again*
Jeroen: number one might surprise you.
Me: is it Sanchez?
Jeroen: *smirks* how'd you know that?
Me: Because i know things.
Dr. No
Goldfinger
Largo
Scaramanga
Zorin
Sanchez
Trevelyan
Carver
LeChiffre
Silva
Honourable Mentions:
Klebb
Blofeld (Pleasance/Savalas)
Worst Bond Villain is Dominic Greene
18:37 might be one of my favourite moments in any Bond film
A great list! I agree with what you say about Sanchez. With your review on License To Kill, I can tell that Franz Sanchez is way up there for you haha😂.
Mine will be.....
1) Alec Trevelyan (Goldeneye)
- Great character, great backstory and great personality. The 'Dark Side of Bond' villains are my favourite type of Bond villains and Trevelyan is no exception. His plot is good and his fight with Bond in the end is one of the best in the series.
2) Le 'Chiffre (Casino Royale '06)
- Another great performance by Mads Mikkelsen. This guy is so creepy and cold and the poker game that sees him and Bond face off mentally and psychologically is so good.
3) Auric Goldfinger (Goldfinger)
- A classic Bond villain. He is such an iconic villain with scenes so memorable like the lazer scene and the golf scene. His Operation Grand Slam is great as well.
4) Franz Sanchez (License To Kill)
- OH BOY. Sanchez is someone you wouldn't want to mess with. He's charming, knowledgeable and if you piss him off or double cross him, down right brutal.
5) Raoul Silva (Skyfall)
- After Quantum Of Solace had a cardboard cutout of a villain like Dominic Greene. Silva was such a breath of fresh air. He's so menacing and terrifying and utterly insane. Think The Joker, Jaws and Alec Trevelyan wrapped in one with a backstory about revenge and hatred of MI6.
6) Franscisco Scaramanga (The Man With The Golden Gun)
- I mean it's Christopher Lee, the guy known for Count Dooku, Dracula, Sarumon. He is incredibly charming, skillful and his golden gun is so cool
7) Ernst Stavro Blofeld
- The arch-nemesis of Bond and leader of SPECTRE. He is THE Bond villain that everyone knows. He's threatening, vile and cunning but his character is varies from time to time. So if I were to rank all the Blofelds.....
1. Anthony Dawson/Eric Pohlmann
2. Donald Pleaseance
3. Telly Savalas
4. Christoph Waltz
5. Charles Gray
6. John Hollis/Robert Rietty
8) Hugo Drax (Moonraker)
- No matter what many people says, I enjoyed Moonraker and Hugo Drax was one of those reasons why. He is quiet and collected and very evil. His plan is also pretty good
9) Elektra King (The World is Not Enough)
- The first ever female Bond villain. She is such a delight to watch. Her plot was great and how she manipulate everyone to achieve her goal. She is cunning, cruel and evil that Sophie Marceau played well
10) Dr Kananga/Mr Big (Live And Let Die)
- He is a great villain. He is cold, menacing and is a joy to watch. His plot is also good too.
HMs: Kamal Khan, Max Zorin, Emillio Largo, Doctor Julius No.
DMs: Gustave Graves/Colonel Moon, Karl Stromberg, Brad Whittaker
Worst: Dominic Greene
Dude! I didn't think anybody else had Sanchez at #1...Bravo! And Davi's Sinatra routine is stellar too!
1. Goldfinger
2. Silva
3. Scaramanga
4. Carver
5. Kananga
6. Dr. No
7. Trevelyan
8. Sanchez
9. LeChiffre
10. Zorin
I like Joseph Wiseman as Dr. No. It's a creepy, cold performance and it's clear that this is an intelligent villain. The problem is lack of screen time.
13:00 in Activisions goldeneye, trevlyan wanted to steal the money to destroy Britain's economy
It might be the same for the movie
The 10 best villains (no order except #1)
1. Goldfinger (no contest)
Le Chiffre
Red Grant
006/Trevelyan
Scaramanga
Silva
Blofeld
Dr No
Elektra King
Max Zorin
+Steven Beoethy Thanks a lot Steven! Comments like these make my day!
DutchBondFan much love from America! Trust me, there are some sophisticated Bond fans over here... Keep it up my friend :-)
Keep them coming!
it’s all in the wrist!!!😅😅 that line always gets me
The scene of Javier Bardem caressing Bond in Skyfall instantly reminded me of the scene in Lawrence of Arabia where Jose Ferrer as the evil Turk creepily feels up the restrained Peter O'Toole.
+HYDRAdude Ah yeah of course! That actually makes sense!
I don’t have Blofeld from YOLT in my top 10 either. I also agree that Charles Gray is the worst villain in the franchise. My top 3 villains :
3. Alec Trevalyn
2. Max Zorin
1. Francisco Scaramanga
RainTitan1331 Great list!
When are you going to recap the rest of Craig’s bond films? Love your videos dude! Keep up the fantastic work
Quantum is planned before the end of the year. I'm spreading out the other two over 2019, and of course do other projects in between. Follow me on social media or keep an eye out on the community tab on my channel to always stay updated on things like that!
Sanchez is my favorite Bond villain of all time followed by Silva
Perfect man ! 👌
PS : I disagree a bit but your work is very good.
Bold choice for no 1. Clearly the most underrated of Bond villains. I agree and commend you sir.
My top 10:
1. Blofeld (Thunderball/From Russia with Love)
2. Alec Trevelyan
3. Elektra King
4. Le Chiffre
5. Raoul Silva
6. Franz Sanchez
7. Francisco Scaramanga
8. Elliot Carver
9. Hugo Drax
10. Auric Goldfinger
Honorable mentions:
Dr. No
Lyutsifer Safin
Mr.
Fenrir TheDarkWolf I like Greene too but not as much as you.
Fenrir TheDarkWolf I agree with you about Dominic Greene.
Number 1 is a surprise but a welcome one, License To Kill is just....chef's kiss!
