You know what's crazy?! 99.9% of the people clapping and watching this, year's ago. Had no idea,Rodney Mullen would pave the way for ALL future skaters. Dude is a living legend and one of the most genuine dudes on the plant! I'm so blessed to grow up in the 70's 80's and 90's. To this day. Nobody, that's right nobody, will ever come close to what this man has accomplished in life! LEGEND.................................
anon smith doesn't seem like it. The way he was followed and everything was perfect. The camera didn't have any obvious skips. Audience seems consistent also
@ anon and ryanwilsonbackup: I saw this thing on its first airdate (Nov 88 IIRC)and it was unmistakably live. Plus most of these tricks were his 'easy' versions of nearly 10-year old contest staples (especially that handstand to boardflip) . I think he was doing two-foot high obstacles with his ollie impossibles for three years by this time, and had already scored 99 or 100 in almost every contest for the last two years. He could probably do this run again despite his age since he hadn't even turned up the engines by the end of the 80's haha
@anon smith I am 100% sure it was slightly edited. I have been a HUGE fan of Rodney since the mid 80's and am very familiar with his routines. He did a stationary ollie grab that was cut I believe. It would have right after his railflip. If you watch closely he sets up to do the ollie (with his feet in 'ollie' position) then the camera cuts to an away shot (with his feet now spread apart) with him skating off that mat to do his one handed handstand flip. Then, of course, if you watch his 360 spin at the end, you see him on two wheels, then one, then two, etc.
Mullen truly is amazing. How many people can do a line like that? One impossible trick after another. All flawless and not one screw up. I don't think anyone comes close to him to this day.
Yup, new skaters have made crazier tricks, but its impossible for any kid in today's world to dedicate "all" of their time to skateboarding. Theres just too may distractions. Nobody can even get "bored" anymore with the internet and what not. I highly doubt anybody will ever be able to put in as many hours as Rodney did on his board. It was a special time for sure.
@@fbass8657 That may be true, but, even back then, who was putting in the amount of work that Rodney was? I think someone in the Powell biography video said he was putting in 6 hours a day. And that was probably on the cement pad in his backyard in the middle of the night. I think you have to be obsessive compulsive. Part of it is natural ability as well. Even if I put in 12 hours of practice a day. I wouldn't have been able to match him.
Trick after trick! airwalks, impossibles, christ ollie, walk the dog, impossible up the stairs! And that one wheel spin went on forever, anyone counted? Without messing up and in people’s face lol. Amazing.
Ive seen him ride from 10 feet away at Southside park in houston Tx back in 97 with the A-team. There was maybe 10 people there watching his little sesh. Afterwards we all sat in a big circle and shot the shit with him.
Whoa........... Ummmmm... Yep, Mullen was insane. At del Mar you didn't have to pay to be a spectator you could just kind of go there and sit on the bleachers over the Keyhole... guys would be ripping the bowl and The Spectators would walk over to that square shallow like Bank area it was like toward the arcade and they would just be in total awe of what Rodney was doing on flat ground when dudes were ripping transition and Blasting errors and slides and grinds and stuff Rodney was mesmerizing you'd sit there and just like drool
I saw this live on Television when I was a child and it changed my life
I thought he was gonna Ollie up the stairs, but no he goes and does an impossible, unbelievable for the time.
Yup. Found this again, puttin it in my favorites.
The Ultimate GOAT of skateboard!
If that was me everyone in the front row would've been head chomped by a board. Rodney on the spot!
Those people didn't even know just how crazy good he really is.👍
either did he~!
Flawlessly Epic Legend😊🙏🏽😋🤟🏼🧔🏽♀️🤙🏼

Am I the only one amazed at how he did this in front of an audience without messing up?
May have been edited for continuity. Anyone know?

I actually saw this when it aired on tv. Still amazed at his innovation.

@@Machihekamake Don't forget popping into an invert without even putting a foot on the ground
When will you get Mullen to meet Andy?
This is incredible. He invented a bunch of tricks (the flat ground Ollie for one) and no one can even do this kind of skating to this level anymore.
the best. Godney Mullen!
not a lot of people have taken consistency this far
That was incredible!
I video taped this when it aired. I was just getting into skateboarding. STOKED!

He could of launched his board into the faces of that audience 😂
steezy impossible up just slams it

Baker should do a spoof of this and put it in Baker 4G.
Skategod
more showman than Primo D. himself :D
lol and a line for skaters nowadays can literally be 2 tricks
wonder who would be liable if Rodney came off and someone coped the board to the face?
Cued cheers and clapping 🤢
