This interview was so amazing. I saw so many interviews by now of Rodney but how he opened up here was so beautiful to see. Of course because he really felt comfortable with his lifelong friend Tony. Rodney is one of a kind. He's the best. 💫🙌🏻
Rodney should have his own show where he just goes places and discovers new and interesting things. Hes such an amazing story teller and his reactions are so genuine.
I love that Rodney and Jason are so opposite, from up bringing to personality but seems to have a amazing respect to each other and it feels like they'd be such good friends after this.
I love how happy Rodney gets for his childhood friend or every time Rodney gets a compliment he gives one back or brings up a moment about Tony. Such a genuine man. I wish I had his passion and work ethnic when I was younger.
@@jcr6o395been listening to his speeches before writing music everyday. It’s genuinely helped, especially with my “red light fever.” And yes, I’m listening again. 😂
Rodney did a demo at my local skate shop back almost 20 years ago. He blew my mind with how he explained the trick and broke it down. He's a total scientist but he sounds like a soft spoken Tommy Chong. All the love and respect in the world Mullen 🙏
I just got out of the psych ward this week. I had the first manic episode of my life a couple weeks ago. Without going into the details I have been struggling for a while now. I keep listening to the section after 1:46:50. I have listened to it probably 15 times today. Dang, I wish Rodney Mullen would do more interviews. I don't care about skateboarding. It looks cool and I have respect for you guys but I listened to this interview because I have love for Mr. Mullen and how he is as a human being. I probably have listened to his interview on Impact Theory 30+ times in the past few years. I just put it on and feel more grounded and human after. Seriously Mr. Mullen. I know you don't like doing interviews but your perspective is so valuable to me. I love Wolf's words speaking to his heart palpitations, "Well then go on, because I'm gonna live my life."
Not only a genius on the board but a certified academic, a patron of the arts and a tenacious yet kind individual. Meeting guys like him in my youth were one of a kind learning experience.
Bro, not just national, INTERNATIONAL. That dudes a fucking legend and insane to anyone! There'll be like aliens observing us going 'Yea I think we should blow em up, then just like but DUDE THAT RODNEY MULLEN!'
Speaking on leaving or quitting skateboarding.. skaters never forget the people they grew up idolizing and immulating , aspiring to be like, don't ever worry about being forgotten. That's impossible. All three of you have given so much inspiration. Skating is truly a personal journey. Thanks for everything!!! 🤘
Rodney has always been that angelic combination of wholesome and great to where just watching him speak makes you dang near tear up and wanna hug someone you appreciate.
I remember watching the Ben Stiller movie with my wife, and when he was skateboarding, I started patting my wife on the arm going "Dude, that's Rodney Mullen, I know it is. Yes that's definitely got to be him, nobody does moves like Rodney" and then had to look it up real quick.
Was just watching Secret LIfe of Walter Mitty last night with my gf, love that scene it always makes me smile. His style is undeniably him, you can tell even with him being in the back out of focus!
I know I’m a bit late to the party on this video but every time I hear Mullen talk about his passion for skating and his life all I can do is smile and listen. The dude is not only a living legend but such a positive influence. Skateboarding is lucky to have him for sure.
21:54 "Don't rot in public" Man I couldn't disagree more. Every bit of footage he's put out was a blessing. Who cares if it's not pushing some limit somewhere, we all just wanna see him skate.
@@AnthonyMartinez-rz9sl no he said dont rot in public, I guess what he means is that he wants his best memory of himself to be the best memory the public has of him as well.
His father raised him to believe that anything less than perfect is not good enough, so he's convinced himself that he can't be seen trying, only succeeding. It's such a shame, but you have to respect the way he feels about it. Rodney is arguably the best there is at what he does, but the pressure of living up to the legend that precedes him has got to be so stressful. As much as I want to see more of what he can do, I'd rather he get to enjoy skating his way.

Just seeing Jason and Tony making content makes me happy. Ellis is such and undeservedly overlooked person in skate history and he totally deserves the spotlight from this
I don't know if you two ever see these comments but I need you to know that was one of the best interviews I've ever enjoyed anywhere. Rodney Mullen is a universal treasure and shaman of not just skateboarding but universal truths.
When the words leave Rodney’s lips I want to cry. He’s so eloquent and educated and fully realizes his power and influence on the world. Seeing the man that gave me the courage to push myself to be the best I can be, relate with long time friends makes me feel so proud, yet blessed. We fuckin’ love you Rodney!!!!!! #SkateForLife
I’ve been waiting for so long for someone to do podcast with him man I could listen to him forever. Please have him back on for more questions about how he invented certain tricks and how he looked at them. It would be reallly interesting to hear
It would be awesome to see it done with clips, explaining his progression. I always admired his building process. Stacking new additions to previous work, taking inspiration from mistakes and having the mind’s eye to see it before execution.
Im now 45 from Edinburgh in Scotland and this is absolutely the best podcast on youtube, I will never everforget having the pleasure as a teenager meeting Tony, Mike Mcgilll and Steve Caballero at Livingstone Skatepark in Scotland back in 1990, completely changed my life and I still remember every minute of it to this day,!!! Even found my old pink Hawk Skull Powell deck in the attic last year!!!
This was amazing. Being a skater in the 90s (and a shitty skater at that lol) I have very fond memories of skating in my buddy's barn as well and also sitting around watching skate videos on VHS and getting so so pumped. Fast forward now where I'm in my mid 40s and that same feeling is still there when watching skate videos, but even more so watching your skate hero's casually chatting about the old days.
Hey Rodney! Just wanna say thanks for offering to buy me that slushy at freestyle skatepark in Kennedale TX 20 years ago. I never needed a "thank you" from you for buying you the slushy instead.. it was an honor and I still have my framed pic of us in the man cave. You are the best sir!
That kid you gave the board to, is just as stoked the day you gave it to him at that demo in the H-street video. Paying it forward is a great feeling, no matter who it is, we just never know who needs to have their day brightened.
Rodney is LEGEND! Also, never heard anyone bring this up, but he also did a gig where he narrated the entire intro to the game Ghost Recon Breakpoint. I booted that up and was like... "Mullen?? wtf"
This was one of the best podcasts ever, and I’m talking beyond skating. Rodney is a unique man. So beyond intelligent yet genuinely nice guy. This was a treat. Ty Tony and Jason!
The London Board he is talking about I have above my door signed. I worked with his Fiancé on a film job, and she was amazing and chatted to me about skateboarding almost every day. Beautiful human being, and a solid full of heart person. my pride of joy as a 38 year old skateboarder. great souls
It’s absolutely insane. I’ve been skating since 1972/73. & I can say without a doubt, what an amazing subculture skateboarding is. And it made the main stream now, but it still has a subculture that can’t be denied in anyway. I feel so blessed to be entangled in this web we call the Skateboard community. Absolutely amazing.
Black knight, Clay wheels, loose ball bearings, Gt’s, Cadillacs, Bennett, Road riders, fiber flex, Logan earth ski, Toft design, DT, Sims, Green Snakes, trackers, independent, Bombing Hills, building ramps, cleaning out pools, then the parks. Great life...
Love Rod hes so genuine and humble! “I can do a couple things.” Bro your The Godfather of skating you basically made every trick up. So much respect for this legend💪🏻
The world and world of skateboarding NEEDS rodney mullen!!! The street skating side of things has gotten so big and grown so much there's nobody that would be better at guest commentary or judging or even just bringing his energy to the contestants. Not only can his modesty and energy light up a room but he's so respected that he can bring another level out of people!!! There will never be a doubt in my mind that rodney and Tony are THE goats of skateboarding.
Showed my kid old Rodney clips from the early 90's with tricks that no one else does to this day. He was blown away that almost everything that street skaters do now Rodney created.
Got to the end. Rodney makes me tear up with how well he can articulate how skateboarding has made me feel over the years. Thanks for this interview guys.
Absolutely the best thing I’ve watched in a long time. I’ve been skating since early 80’s and Mullen is my fav of all time. I remember being blown away when he made the transition to street skating with plan b. The GOAT.
For those of you that are new to skating, This man is the most important skater to street skating. He is the reason why we skate the way we do. There's a reason why he's called the Godfather. You gotta love Mutt.
This is by far the best podcast interview I’ve seen in a very long time!! Tony,Jason and Rodney could do 1000 episodes without anyone else and I’d watch every minute. 🍻🍻🇨🇦
Just an awesome interview with the King of skateboarding the innovator of Every trick Skate boarders do, And not to mention he inspired me to start skateboarding again After a 15 year break And I still ride hard every day for hours at a time. And I'm 51 now, I'm in the best shape of my life. Thank you, and you guys are the best.
They titled the video just RODNEY MULLEN, just realized that. The respect they have for him really shown. Man i don't even know Rodney like they are, but i'm so proud that at some point in life, i too part of this life known as a skateboarder. A PASSION. I love that, love Rodney...legendary GOAT!!

So stoked you guys put this pod together and this week's was just next level. This could have run 12 hours and not felt like enough. Incredibly compelling, entertaining stuff. Is this where we put in our request for Rodney part 2? I can't be the only one wanting to hear what happened during that night session in Oxnard that Rodney referenced (along with pretty much anything else he would want to discuss). The amount of mutual respect between Tony and Rodney is unreal. Rare to see, Rodney is the best and one of my favourite people to listen to because of how genuine and sincere he is. Not trying to sound exciting , cool or anything like it but is doing that and more than anyone else could.
I worked with Rodney's GF on a tv show a few years ago and he came to set and could not be any nicer...signed boards, shaking hands, taking pictures with the crew, such a great guy.
I've been waiting for this my whole life! As a teenager Rodney inspired me to become a pro skateboarder. I am now in my 30s and NOT a pro skateboarder but this dude still inspires me!

I love how Rodney os like completely clueless about just how famous and popular he truly is. I think he has sort of an imposter syndrome. He doesn’t really truly grasp just how influ he has been for sooooo many people. Also look at just how excited he is any time they mention one of their friends for the first time. He’s more excited to talk to about anyone else but himself. Dude is a legend and a mystery. He understands the ideal to always leave them wanting more. Then he rides off in the sunset. Such a good cool dude. We love him for all the same reasons everyone loves Keanu. Just good people.
rodney is definitely a special person and doesn't think the same way that everyone else does, and that's to everyone's benefit. its probably hard for him to find people he vibes with on a really deep level. I dont think he cares much about the popularity, it probably makes him feel good but weird at the same time. idk, just speculating. thats the vibe I get from him. I have friends that are a lot like him.

Thank you guys for this amazing episode! I could listen to Rodney for hours and hours. He has some amazing stories and I'm sure there are so many he hasn't even shared. Damn, if he had a podcast it would be insane. I feel so blessed to have met him and got to watch him skate in person. It was like 1994-95, maybe a few years before that. It was the first time I had seen a Casper Flip and Darkslide and everything he did was mind blowing. -If you met someone like Lebron, who is one of the more popular basketball players of our time, he wouldn't have time to speak to you, he definitely wouldn't sign an autograph or anything like that. Now, there is Rodey Mullen, the creator of modern street skating, one of the best to ever touch a skateboard, basically if there was a section in the dictionary that said "Skate God" - it would be all about Rodney Mullen. So, if you happened to meet Rodney, he would actually find time to speak to you and not only that, he would actually be embarrassed if you asked for an autograph. He's that humble. @@dennispagano10 I hope they get him on nine club. Dubs spent a lot of time in the van on tour with him.
wonderful :)
Woo! Go Jonny!
Saw rodney Mullen video, went looking for giger in the comments, found him
The mind behind the genius........woah. It has been amazing watching you recreate some of rodney's epic tricks. I figured I would never see most of them done, keep up the content
Giger flip
I could listen to Rodney talk all day. Aptly put Jonny.
I feel like having a 2 hour conversation with Rodney Mullen would change my life in so many ways
I feel that way after every long form interview he does.
Like Karl pilkington minus the funny part
The closest you'll get is Guy Martin's series.
I love that Rodney and Jason are so opposite, from up bringing to personality but seems to have a amazing respect to each other and it feels like they'd be such good friends after this.
LoL there no one in the skate world that could not show respect to Mullen. Every trick in today's world was created by the guy hahaha
Is this worth telling??? I love him. Everyone should be Rod.
Rodney seems so enlightened. What a sweet, and sincerely genuine dude. Absolutely amazing interview.
I wish this podcast was twice as long! Great podcast, two humble legends and a cool dude who I can relate to.
**Three legends Sir
agreed, 100
@@DiMiTri-ys7ei exactly. This should be the podcast of the year
I love how happy Rodney gets for his childhood friend or every time Rodney gets a compliment he gives one back or brings up a moment about Tony. Such a genuine man. I wish I had his passion and work ethnic when I was younger.
Exactly he includes everyone
@@jcr6o395been listening to his speeches before writing music everyday. It’s genuinely helped, especially with my “red light fever.” And yes, I’m listening again. 😂
Rodney did a demo at my local skate shop back almost 20 years ago. He blew my mind with how he explained the trick and broke it down. He's a total scientist but he sounds like a soft spoken Tommy Chong. All the love and respect in the world Mullen 🙏
It’s SO exciting to watch this podcast grow! Even nine club can’t get 2 hrs with Rodney! This episode is gonna be HUGE
nine clubs gonna get a 4h episode with rodney... be patient !
The power of the Hawkman
I would love to see him on the nine club!
a 9 club would be much more in depth, yet im appreciative of rodney talking for 2h with a good friend. dont get me wrong plz
no need to be stating that. Nine Club will be getting theirs. im all ears anywhere the man visits
this genuinely two childhood friends having the memory reminisce of a lifetime, much love to Rodney tony and wolf
Have Rodney on again, ASAP! There is so much more to talk about, and I fear we won't ever hear about it otherwise.
Woah...I feel you. Hang on brother, life is movin' fast. ❤
“Excuse me, sir. I couldn’t help notice that you were shirtless in the rain doing kick flip primo slides. Could you be Rodney Mullen by chance?” Lmao.
Love Rodney because he is one of the greatest geniuses of our time yet so humble
Not only a genius on the board but a certified academic, a patron of the arts and a tenacious yet kind individual. Meeting guys like him in my youth were one of a kind learning experience.
@@garrettsheaffer9799 I feel you but there probably aren’t too many people like him.
@@chrisgeorge84 there are thousands of people like him. You just have to seek them out!
This was awesome! I love hearing Rodney speak about just about anything!
Niiiiick my boy from gear seekers!! I want to see you skate bro. Its good extra content. And yes RM is the skate goat
Rodney is a national treasure, and true innovator! Thank you guys so much for this!
Same haven't skated in over a decade but when I see a Mullen hawk interviews I'm watching these were my idols
I’ve never skated in my life, and I loved that interview. Inspiring.
Rodney has always been that angelic combination of wholesome and great to where just watching him speak makes you dang near tear up and wanna hug someone you appreciate.
Great way to describe it, he has such a unique mind n heartwarming thoughts about life, I teared up probably a dozen times during this podcast
I think that's probably the best way I've ever heard someone put it into words, that's the perfect description of listening to Rodney
His style is undeniably him, you can tell even with him being in the back out of focus!
same here
Same - I also adress my wife as dude
@@Gibbernak lol
@@Gibbernak you wish you could
The focus Rodney gives to people he is talking to and the follow ups to acknowledge them are fucking inspiring
just such a wonderful human
I couldn't figure out what it was that makes him seem like such a great conversationalist. This is it.
Just the "I hear you" is something not enough people do in normal conversations.
Thank you so so so much for this Jason and Tony and Rodney. I wish this could have been a 15 hour long episode
Not sure if you made a typo, but I believe he said don’t Rod in public.
@@AnthonyMartinez-rz9sl no he said dont rot in public, I guess what he means is that he wants his best memory of himself to be the best memory the public has of him as well.
Can’t disagree with wanting more Rodney clips. But maybe that’s part of what makes him such a legend.
@@AnthonyMartinez-rz9sl why would he of said rod?
This podcast is amazing. Please never stop this. Rodney is incredibly unique and we need to hear more of his stories. Please do a part2. ASAP!!!
Jason Ellis Hawk Vs Wolf Shirt just purchased, going to sail the seas all the way to the gold coast. Jason I skated with you on vert at Prahran ramp many moons ago. Love the both of you for still being RAD.
This is by far my favorite podcast of all time. This podcast has made me feel more connected to skate history, and the scene itself. Thank you to everybody who takes part in the making of this production. Special thanks to Rodney Mullen, Jason Ellis, and Tony Hawk for this amazing segment!
I just found this week's ago, legendary. Them talking to undertaker was cool.
That's a good description actually. Dude is so shamanlike
Even found my old pink Hawk Skull Powell deck in the attic last year!!!
this is seriously one of the best episodes of any podcast ever, wish it was twice as long.
Sorta kinda speechless now.
Damn, didn't expect to see you here but respect, real recognize real

Two hours of Love, Tears (happy ones) and joy, watching this ever-shining guiding star that is Rodney Mullen. You mean so much to so many.
Couldn’t have said it better!! Absolute LEGEND!!!
The good ol days of being called a poser by kids who you were better then
I am so glad i stumbled on this. 2 hours of pure magic. Rodney is a treasure.
Rodney is hands down the most inspirational person to listen to, such a humble soul.
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. This is such a gift. Thanks, Tony, Jason and Rodney. You've made the holidays truly happy with this episode.
"Mullen?? wtf"
Just checked it out… and that was so unexpected.
Not only did he narrate the intro, he also played a character in the game itself named Jace Skell.

Dude this was the best, I've wanted to see this kind of thing with rodney for ages thank you all for giving us this
Love Rod hes so genuine and humble!
The GOAT.
The first time I watched Virtual Reality and he pops the double flip to Casper…bro!
For those of you that are new to skating, This man is the most important skater to street skating. He is the reason why we skate the way we do. There's a reason why he's called the Godfather. You gotta love Mutt.
More Rodney plz. I’ve watched this podcast so many times and some more would be great.
Hell yeah 2 hours of Rodney love it!
This is by far the best podcast interview I’ve seen in a very long time!! Tony,Jason and Rodney could do 1000 episodes without anyone else and I’d watch every minute. 🍻🍻🇨🇦
"Doing something for the sake of it" is such a poignant concept. The world would be a much better place if we all thought more like Rodney Mulllen.
Just an awesome interview with the King of skateboarding the innovator of Every trick Skate boarders do, And not to mention he inspired me
to start skateboarding again After a 15 year break And I still ride hard every day for hours at a time.

Keep up the fantastic work Tony and Jason, you dudes are the best.
This may be the best podcast I've ever seen.. Tony and Jason, absolutely love what you've created. Keep it coming👍 And Rodney, the Godfather, you've inspired me more than any single person ever and I want to thank you for everything you've given us. Not only for the plethora of tricks but for the board itself. Im proud to say, I have one of your original 500 almost uberlight's in mint condition and its my most prized possession!
You guys are my heros🤟
These legends speaking from the heart. So rad. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks guys!! That was by far one of the best podcasts I’ve heard!! Took me back to my youth.

I remember the 1st time I ever saw
Rodney Mullen skate
I was 8yo it was 1988 and My cousin Troy brought a video over with Rodney on His little Freestyle Board and the stuff He was doing BLEW MY MIND 🤯
It was the coolest ish I’d ever seen and I was hooked
Then out of nowhere like 4mo later He wasn’t cool anymore and I was being teased for Loving Rodney Mullen
I was like WTH

You can really tell that Rodney genuinely cares & is interested in people and doesn't want to be put on any kind of pedestal. Seems like such a cool guy.

Amazing episode! I could listen to Rodney talk for hours, so don't hesitate to have him back!
This was hand's down the best interview I've seen! Holy hell he's so insightful.
it started slow...an I didn't know where it was gonna go, but around 38 minutes to the end it was fuckin awesome
Thank you guys. Rodney Mullen is the Oracle and Tony has always been giving props. Tony is a bastion of non contrived humility and is a legend. Aussie dudes story about his Dad name dropping Pink is hilarious. Subscribed
What a great interview! Rodney had some great stories! Want to hear more, for sure!
Love this guy. So much inspiration just poor's out of him. I had to watch this episode 3 times and now I have to go skate. "Until the wheels fall off".
He is just a great Human Being.
BEST INTERVIEW OF ANYONE EVER, LOL. NO JOKE, RODNEY IS A LIVING LEGEND. SO GLAD I WATCHED THIS! THANKS GUYS!
What I like about Rodney beside his incredible aptitude, Is he reminds you of what it's like to be a kid full of wonder. I don't think there's a cynical bone in his body. He's just so kind, humble, and genuine. Truly we are blessed to have him.
He basically went pro at 14 so he's never had to do anything outside his heart and passions he's a wonderful case of positivity and love
