Something interesting in the Arabic dub is that vi says "you're pretty my cupcake" because there is no equivalent to the word "hot" in Arabic, but it's interesting that they made the deliberate choice to have her say "MY cupcake"

In Italian Vi says “pasticcino” which is a common way of calling bakery/patisseries/homemade pasties, it’s fun bc it’s also a funny yet endearing way of calling your lover, so imo fits better than just “cupcake” in our language 💙🇮🇹

Dopo aver letto dei commenti ho notato che le critiche non si riferiscono alla parola cupcake, ma direttamente al tono del doppiaggio. Anche io lo trovo strano dopo aver visto la serie in inglese, perchè nell'originale i personaggi usano un tono che rispecchia il loro stile di vita. Caitlyn è insicura, dubbiosa ed in un mondo sconosciuto per lei. Vi è il suo contrario, ma non usa neanche un tono accusatorio o intimidatorio, ma usa invece un tono per sedurre, per rispecchiarne appunto le parole e l'intenzione.
In quello italiano caitlyn si rivolge a Vi manco fosse una camionista e Vi sembra incazzata con lei nonostante nella scena voglia sia prendersi gioco di lei che sedurla allo stesso tempo.
@@matteozerbini6139 personalmente non ho elaborato un pensiero così profondo, il tono giocoso e seduttivo di Vi si percepisce perfettamente anche in italiano, e in questo l’adattamento “pasticcino” aiuta tantissimo la performance della doppiatrice e a me sta bene! Il tono vagamente incazzoso ci sta tantissimo su un personaggio che ha accumulato rabbia per gli anni passati chiusa ingiustamente in prigione, è un tipo di frustrazione che mantieni nella voce anche quando parli di altro, l’ho trovato perfetto! Mi sono capitati in home altri video multi-language con Jinx ad esempio, e il doppiaggio italiano è stato senz’altro fra i migliori 🤞🏻

A me poi il doppiaggio italiano non dispiace, a tratti lo trovo migliore di quello originale. Poi, come hai detto tu, sul fatto che Vi sia incazzata perchè ha passato anni in prigione, ci sta. Non è un pensiero profondo come non lo era il mio, è una sensazione. Quello che non trovo giusto peró è cambiare tono e parole di una scena a proprio piacimento. Vi nell'originale non è aggressiva, tanto meno Caitlyn che è cresciuta comportandosi sempre mantenendo un certo rispetto verso il prossimo. Questo non lo dico io, ma in lingua originale si percepisce, cosa che non avviene nel doppiaggio italiano. Io studio sceneggiatura e so l'immenso lavoro dietro ad ogni singola parola, per questo motivo non trovo giusto cambiare le cose a proprio piacimento.
Comunque il doppiaggio puó piacere senz'altro, non è neanche male. Secondo me peró, piccolo esempio, se la canzone "Immagine" la traduci e canti in italiano non ha lo stesso effetto. Lo stesso vale se traduci "l'anno che verrá" in inglese ecc...

A funny thing about the Danish dub of hot is that "lækker" can be used for both very hot people and delicious food. She's literally saying "You're delicious, cupcake" but it means sexy as hell!

It's really interesting that each language used its own variation of "hot" and "cupcake" in this scene. This makes the scene rather unique for each language. That's great.
Sadly, not in German. Though "heiß" really means "hot" in both senses, they used the loanword "cupcake" when "Törtchen" (little tart) would also have been appropriate in context.
While German voice actors are very experienced (everything is dubbed in Germany), there are often some problems with the translations of idioms or puns.

Fun fact: In the Spanish translation, even though we have a word for cupcake(pastelito/pastelillo) they used ´´bombón´´(chocolate in a box) instead because this word is commonly used to describe hot people and in this context, it would also mean ´bombshell´

As a greek person I was so worried about who would be voicing them in greek but I'm pleasantly surprised that their voices are pretty nice and fitting and not some basic voice actor because due to the lack of voice actors in general all animations have similar voices and it's lowkey annoying and disappointing. Also "cupcake" doesnt really have an equivalent in greek so hearing her call her a word that essentially means "small cake" or the diminutive of the word cake was funny to me. Some of these dubs are seriously hilarious/hot.
I still think they could have made the translation a bit better in Greek. I miss the old translations that felt more "natural" to the native speaker. Translations nowadays stick to the original script like a bible and it really ruins some parts that could have been (in terms of context) just as effective. Remember the line where jinx says "I made her a snack?" well, I think there were better alternatives than "I made her food". The voices are very fitting tho!

Japanese dubbing is great when watching anime but when seeing it paired with foreign animation the voices always feel greatly exaggerated or mismatched with the tone of the characters.

It depends on the voice actors really. The VA of The spider in the spider isekai anime can do both exaggerated roles and more natural subtle roles. The VA they chose for Arcane sounds like she might be a Jojo voice actor?

in Polish "cupcake" is translated to candy because it fits more with the lip syns❤
It is "candy" because word for "cupcake" is at the same time word for woman, so if Vi would call her "cupcake" in Polish, it would mean more of "sexy lady" in very countryside way, not "sweet lady" like in original english transcript. That's why Cait became "candy"

In Czech, we do not have a word for a cupcake so Vi uses a different dessert instead of a cupcake, which is also very sweet. Also, she does not say hot because we do not have an equivalent of hot in this context. Instead, she calls her literally a cat. You call a girl a cat if you perceive her as sexy.

That also happens in Portuguese! When you want to say someone is hot we use the words "gato" for men and "gata" for women because it changes if it's male or female, but it literally means "cat"

Interesting fact about Russian translate. We have two words for cupcakes - big one sounds like KEX, and tiny capcake we call KEXYCK (but sure you thought it souds like sexy). Also for the word HOT we use both "hot" or "sexy", but our translators choose alternative word - BEAUTY. So literally Vi says: "You are beauty, kexyck!" :D And my favourite expressions was English, Russian and Mandarin Chineese.
This is why Russian is such a cute language I love it so much 😭😭

Until now I didn't realized Vi calls Caitlyn a "cupcake". For Polish dubbing they chose to call her "candy" and the reference to the game was gone. But at the same time I understand why they didn't pick the direct translation (also using non-slang English words in Polish is not common and sounds strange) - we have the same word for cupcake (babeczka) and for a woman, especially hot (babka or babeczka). So it wouldn't have much sense or it will be very confusing. "Jesteś seksi, babeczko" does not translate well XD

i dont speak a lot of vietnamese, but that translation felt too literal. in english, Vi says to Cait "youre hot" as in "youre sexy/attractive/good looking/etc" but in viet that sounded like "youre LITERATLLY hot" as in she probably has a fever
"Nóng" means hot but what Vi said was "nóng bỏng" and it means sexy or attractive

Finnish translation is literally "you're hot, crumb". Later Vi says "but you're so sweet, like a crumb cookie". In our context crumb equals as "sweetie". So yeah, being called crumb is cute af. The native dub is a good excuse to rewatch this season.

oh the finnish really suprised me. finnish is a really awkward language to dub, but it sounded pretty good. in finnish cupcake is "kuppikakku" a pretty straight on translation but as a petname it's not that smooth. they used "muru" instead which literally means crumb but is a more common petname that means like sweetie, darling, dear, bae etc

Wait a second. I am French and the translation is pretty good. Like of course Vi would use slang and English words. While Caitlyn is better and more polish. It have this understanding that how Vi speek is more street or atleast not respectfull. The type of language you use between your friends. Caitlyn on the other hand lived with nobility and have a house under her name. So of course she would use that kind of polish talk.
