I will like Paul for films like Mortal Kombat, Death Race, Solider, Event Horizon and he produced a cool film like Pandorum. Everything he’s done besides those films have been laughable cheap garbage.

The only thing I actually like about this movie is that really awesome intro and song and that's about it

To be honest this movie got sick soundtracks and I'd say the best ones of the franchise.
i liked the ending it shows Alice and the others team with Wesker to save the last bunch of Humanity and shows the military being actually cool and not immediately become a laughing stock in movies every goddamn zombie apocalypse movies or shows
The only thing I like about any movie is zilch. ALL movies are crap!
I tried watching this last night, gave up after 20 minutes and went to bed. It’s so obvious they are in front of a green screen.
I hadn't realized how much money every single one of these flicks has made in the box office! Like B-league Transformers franchise.
I've seen the final chapter once and I have no intention of watching it again whereas the others are borderline watchable
Here's to hoping that The Final Chapter gets a *Fuck This Movie!* rating. It's the one I've been waiting for!

The action and the whole look of that film was quite terrible.

I loved Retribution. My second favorite film of the franchise. It was a lot of fun, brought in some great characters, kinda adapted RE: Underworld by SD Perry, and I loved the returning characters. They were fun to see and while not really crucial, I liked the touch. I think they knew the movies were just popcorn fun and so they really tried to veer into that territory. Each film tried to outdo the previous on the bombastic meter. Each person's mileage may vary on the enjoyment factor, but I just love watching these movies. But if you aren't an Alice fan, yes, these films will be hard for you to enjoy, but I really like the character so I love following her journey through the series in movie and in novel form. :-)
I thought it couldn't get any worse when I first was watching these movies. And then it did.
Retribution was the first Resident Evil I got to see in IMAX and I really enjoyed it! I agree character development needed to be a lot better but I still really enjoyed it!
And was the first resident evil movie I saw in theaters and was also the first movie I saw in Caribbean Cinemas In Plaza Norte
Because the movie theater in plaza Norte was new at the time
8:41 Apparently the Ada actress's accent was so hard to understand they had to have Ada's original voice actress Sally Cahill from RE2 and 4 dubbed over her.
the final battle between jill and alice is what saved the movie for me THE FINAL BATTLE IS AMAZING
I'd have to say the only thing about this movie I liked was Kevin Durand as Barry Burton
All the Umbrella Corporations people are clones. Rain, Carlos, Alice. They were never real. Also the little girl is little clone Alice. That’s why black leather Alice knows sign language! Different evolutions of that life cycle! Maybe all the clones are based on one real person but we’ve never seen their real versions then (until old Alice)
I know it is a little gripe but the “axe man” is called “The Executioner”
I'm glad you compared some of the characters to Red Shirts. That's a great Star Trek: Original Series reference.
Watching your reviews for these movies really have impacted my viewing experience with these films. I now notice all the issues, that I never noticed before. But with that being said I still absolutely love this movie.

@@edbeasant9494 I hate people like you, I enjoy these movies because as a kid I loved Zombie Media. Games, shows and Movies. I literally watched the first 3 Resident Evil movies with my Dad and had an absolute blast. I saw the following movies in Theaters and own all 6 of them. Yes I notice the flaws, and yes I understand they are inaccurate to the games. But if they were exactly like the games then they'd fail. The resident evil games are built on Puzzles, solve mysteries, and fight Zombies and Mutations, following a story with the same characters in every other game. The 6 movies are based a Separate story about someone completely different in the Resident Evil universe, which is something we haven't gotten before. We had Mortal Kombat get an awful sequel that killed the Movie franchise, we had the DOA movie that was a Abomination, the 2 horrible house of the dead movies, they have all failed but Resident Evil succeeded because the story was actually interesting, the call backs to the games and older Zombie movies satisfied casual zombie fans and resident evil fans, and again the story is worth checking out if you're a resident evil fan. Retribution is my favorite because of many things. Most important ones, Soundtrack, action, mutations, call backs, Berry, Ada Wong, and Ending. If my standards were low I'd Consider Doom Annihilation to be a fantastic movie. Which I know for 100% fact is not.

The year I always think of when Resident Evil and Silent Hill were at their lowest points. Both seemed to be dead franchises afterwards due to bad decisions and it would’ve take a miracle to bring them back
Thankfully Resident Evil did make a comeback although the same can’t be said for Silent Hill
2012 also was the peak of the zombie craze. Resident Evil was no longer your main source for zombie media; movies had them, Walking Dead was in full hype, apocalyptic themes ran amok, literature exploded with them. Resident Evil had to step back and examine its own identity in a world that had held a mirror up to it.

I got lucky and picked up tickets for an early access showing tonight. Fingers crossed that it doesn't completely blow.
Completely agree with your awesome review Cody, you introduce Ada, Leon & Barry to the franchise & do fuck all with them except kill off Barry.
The ending sets up what looked to be a final all out battle which doesn't happen in the next film.
Only good thing is Milla looks hot & she kicks ass but the plot is jarring & doesn't add any drama or suspense & the Alien rip off scenes with the daughter were pointless.
Ada's actress doesn't speak English all that well so all of her lines where done by Sally Cahill Ada's voice actress from the orginal games it still doesn't redeem this pile of garbage but that's a pretty cool factoid love the shirt man RE2 is my all time favorite Resident evil game

Great review. I remember enjoying this movie when I saw it in theatres, but I definitely will never defend this one. I enjoy the action and the opening zombie attack, I also like the soundtrack. I am not a fan of Leon in this, he looks a lot like him but has the personality of a door. I've seen that actor in other things and he's decent in those, so I blame the directing in this more than him. Being one of those people that doesn't like the new Leon not looking like him, I do agree that if he acts like him, I can forgive it somewhat. I really like the ending shot, but totally agree with you on no payoff. I believe the explanation for Wesker being good was the Red Queen taking over and wanting him dead, which is still dumb. I'm sorry if someone else already said this. That Wesker impression was great by the way. 😄
Apparently Capcom hated the clone storylines in the films so much that despite hypocritically doing the "Carla is a clone of Ada" story in RE6 they refused to refer to her as a clone.
This movie is alright, but I think the soundtrack stands out to me. "Hexes" and "flying through the air" are fantastic songs to me. I forgot Ada was in this movie...it's been awhile since I have seen it.
You’re gonna LOVE the fan service in Welcome to Raccoon City. Became my favorite in the franchise in the first 10 minutes. Gonna need to see it again lol.

For me, the last 3 movies should not even exist. I think that the franchise should have ended at Extinction, and it would be a decent ending.

I am not sure if Cody understands this but these movies are just made for the trailer lines and action pieces. That is all Anderson really is.

I have to admit, I'm kind of impressed you made it 5 movies in with this franchise before you started to really dislike it. I was done halfway through the second one when my mom and I went to see it in theaters.
Yeah part 2 was it for me. Mike Epps cracking jokes and the terrible nemesis was it for me.
The giant licker should have been the el gigante instead.
I don't like the film, but I found it the second-most-watchable entry, mostly because of the "suburban" setting.
She grabs the Sig P220 Sport out of the Tokyo cop car. Goldeneye 64 is my fav videogame of all time.
My bias for the video games aside, Alice is one of the dullest characters I have ever seen in any medium. She is a Mary Sue in every sense of the word with no personality to speak of. The protagonists from the games aren't deep either, but they have something that Alice has never come close to: charisma.
And she's incredibly full of herself too
Also I believe she's one of the worst protagonists in a franchise ever

4 and 5 are the most entertaining in the series. Wonderful slices of b movie cheese.
PWSA has NO originality in any of his movies. Everything seems to be rehash of something better and giving his wife scenes, including Monster Hunter ! But hey look at my Hot Wife, she's the Star !
I thought it was Really a Dumb That they used Clones for the plot line for Retribution because it was just there for a Gimmick for Audiences to wonder how did those Dead Characters Live But Not Really
As an Estonian, you could imagine how pumped I was when I heard Johann Urb (an Estonian actor) was going to be in a RE movie, and not just that, hes portraying my favorite, Leon. And then I saw the movie 🤦🤬

I’m pretty sure they got the unground lab with different environments for testing from one of the resident evil novels. Either Caliban cove or underworld can’t remember which.

When it comes to the little girl that Alice "adopted", I really wish they had somehow stuck with the Ashford girl from Apocalypse. Just to somehow tie these movies more together, considering what we learn about Alice in the Final Chapter

Paul may have not directed every movie in this franchise but he had some control of every movie in the franchise. I am sure he was a producer of the Resident Evil movies he didn’t direct.
The only thing I liked from this movie was the girl that played Alice daughter - she was an amazing actress.
Oh Kevin Durand is easily an actor who can make even a mediocre film immensely enjoyable, I've loved him in practically everything he's been in. He's all I remember of Retribution, after the first three I grew tired of this franchise. But loving your reviews for these! 🙂

I don't usually notice bad gunplay in action movies, but the work in this movie in particular is atrocious.
This movie was something to do, so they can get out of the house. I definitely only watched it once and never looked back.

This one and afterlife should’ve been skipped altogether. I liked the 1st second and last one. Extinction is kinda like an expansion to the story overall
Fairly sure that the guy playing Leon was a model with no other acting credit. It's also possible that he couldn't fluently speak English.
A decent good entertaining enough sequel for me , but certainly i will absolutely agree that i was disappointed that the very last movie after this one didnt have Wesker , Leon , or Ada when the 5th movie had ended with them , just imagine how much more entertaining badass that would of been for the last movie if Paul had went that direction but yeah sadly that didnt end being the case
Yeah, Wesker's face turn didn't make much since to me either in this one. And I agree, with the way they build to something cool at the end only to pull the rug out from under you in the next movie, it feels like watching modern day WWE. I still holding hope the new one will do it right. Starting over with a fresh start I think is the only way they could have saved a movie side of this franchise, specially after the last two.
I think Anderson sets up cool cliffhanger endings then realises they'll take the spotlight away from his wife so doesn't follow through on them.

The only things I like in this film are the intro and music. I guess if I had to have two more positives I liked evil Jill Valentine and the actor playing Barry was quite good but everything else was horrible.
This was the only one of these RE films I've seen with theaters. I just went with a friend just because it was something to do. I've seen the first two on bluray but thought they were pretty vapid. This was worse.
this movie made me so angry... more than the others. I don't think they have done anything right in these movies. Nemesis was a huge insult cause in the game he's a total bad ass with a tentacle in his hand and mangles your face. Everything after that i kinda just watched to watch, no excitement at all. I seriously hope the new movie will be awesome.

When I popped it in for the first time I was enjoying it until Leon said saving a little girl is a mistake don't do this.
The bad-ass opening backwards intro, the score along with it, Jovovich, Guillory, and Ariaya Engineer are the only things I really liked about this. =

I loved these movies. They're stupid and over the top, the bad guys are cartoonishly evil. I like the games, these movies don't make any sense but they're still fun to watch

I still prefer this one over afterlife …. Easy … Jesus as much as I try to enjoy afterlife …. The slow mo kills it for me
They take her powers in the last movie then give them back to her in the end of this one….makes no sense

It's a mixed bag for me. Some stuff I like some other things I don't, just like the rest of the franchise including the first film which again is the one I like the most but still have problems with it.
It’s mind blowing how much of the same opinions we have for this one. I love these movies but acknowledge everything. Except for the last two. The big thing that always pissed me off about this movie is that you have Jill Valentine and Barry Burton in the same movie….. and they don’t know each other.. That’s a lot more than a misstep for me.
