I inherited by 503A from my husband's grandmother over twenty years ago. I've been using it all these years without issue until last night when the thread suddenly kept snapping over and over again. It was then that I noticed the thread control hooking my thread and throwing everything off. Thank you so much for your clear instructions and video. This completely resolved my issue!!
Oh man, I really hope this helps. I've been throwing a LOT of swear words at my Rocketeer. Keeps snarling the bottom thread. Thread keeps jumping out of the guide arm above the tensioner. Just non-stop random nightmares. I will skip that extra bit from now on and cross my fingers. Thanks for sharing!
@@Alobster1 I guess that means no, but most likely what happened is the sewing machine made them so made that they decided to chuck it out the window! Sadly they forgot that they live on the 5th floor of an apartment complex in a very populated neighborhood/area, and unfortunately the sewing machine happen to land right on someone's head, being that it's made of all metal and weighing 29 pounds, it killed the poor person instantly, crushing their skull 😢. RmcDaniel423 is now in prison doing life for the crime. This isn't the first time something like this has happened, uncooperative spiteful sewing machines are well known for being cunning, cold hearted, never showing mercy, always plotting, always scheming on how to take you out! Don't let yourself become another statistic by letting a sewing machine ruin your life! If you or a loved one has been experiencing issues with your sewing machine, call the sewing machine emergency help crisis hotline before it's too late! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Bypassing is only necessary if over time, the thread has cut a groove in the thin metal. It's not a replaceable part. The mechanism works great if you use vintage wood or rough spools that catch on the spoolpin felt. There is not a noticeable change when used with the good plastic spools made today but it does work as designed. Most thread breakage is from an improperly installed needle or lint in the bobbin case.

I've been trying to sew knit fabric, and this threading is the only thing so far that seems to work.
Totally solved my problem!! Thank you.
Thank you! I just tried sewing on my 503 for the first time and I threaded it the same as in the manual and it was hideous!
This worked well for me. Thank you.

Easy
Theres a hand screw black color knob that you unscrew and then pull the light out by pushing the bulb in and then twisting it i believe?
