- Howlin’ Wolf, “How Many More Years,” Shindig television show, original broadcast May 26, 1965.
Guest Billy Preston, piano; and from the Shindig house band, James Burton, guitar; Joey Cooper, bass; Chuck Blackwell, drums.
I went to see Howling Wolf at the Il Rondo club in Leicester with my mate. The Il Rondo was the only club that let black people in (1968). Me and mate watched the band surrounded by loads of people. One of them was a big old black bloke. When the announced Howlin Wolf, this guy put down his drink, got his harp out of his pocket and went to the stage. We had been sitting near him all night and assumed he would like the pictures on his record sleeves. He was great
One of the greatest live performances ever , not just the blues !!!!!
The ultimate showman!
Real music by a great performer. No pretensions. Pure.
The best
That’s authentic blues for ya. No frills, only 100% heart & soul.
CAN ONE IMAGINE WHAT IS WAS LIKE TO BE GROOVIN` IN THAT CROWD THEN IN 1965 . I WAS 14 . LITTLE YOUNG AT THE TIME , BUT I GOT THAT BLUES GROOVE GOIN` FOR A LONG TIME NOW .
Gentle giant with a great band to back him up
Wolf jumping around like a wild man... Too much! He was too sick to be able to do that when I saw him at Joe's Place in Cambridge in '73.
Brilliant he was and real Blues. his blues will go on.Pure blues is this.
Every person on the planet should see this.

Brian Jones in the audience
All of the Rolling Stones were there. The Stones started in music listening to the blues and they were horrified and appalled at how the black men that they viewed as gods of music were treated (completely ignored) in the US. They were booked to come on this show "Shindig." However, they refused to play unless Howlin' Wolf was allowed to play on TV as well.... That is how he came to be on that stage that night.
@@legalvices , Your right..How did in not see them !
Thought I saw him in the first 30 seconds or so, you confirmed this:)
@@green323turbo This shows the Stones & Howling Wolf together at the beginning of the show.

Looks like Billy Preston on keys. Was he hanging out in London in '64? Gittar player ain't half-bad either. The British were so far ahead of the Americans, it's not even funny. Can you imagine the Wolf on national television in the States at that time?!?!
This is a National US TV show, Shindig, the Stones insisted that he appear with them.
