Looks like the same Western Express that you had to blow the horn at to move. Cabovers rock! My dad taught me in a GMC astro Kenworth K100 1974 and 1978 that I would drive myself.

That's what I was thinking. The driver must have sat thru several other red lights while looking at his phone.

That truck needs some love and passion. He’s looking nasty.. Two years ago you said.. after winter he’s getting new rims. Paint is looking like shit, and he needs some serious polishing. Cabovers are so rare these days. Keep it alive. It’s doing an amazing job. Show some respect to the old man.

Ohh, they build the Fire trucks their. That cool. Never seen one with just the chassis and cab. Don't blame the guy for being very paranoid about the transport because that is the first Striker you hauled that have those type of automatic doors. ITs all most like the Charter bus with their swing sliding doors. But yea, you can explain as much you can to the people that transporting over Sea but you hope they do the right thing when its on the ship.

If the Striker is 60,000 it will be a fun load to drive. New sensations and feelings as the heavier load glides across the black top. I use to like them a lot, bigger the better. Can hardly wait till your next vid, the striker on the run, stay safe FSC…Another great vid…

Why don't they just drive that to Baltimore. The drive new motorhomes to dealers.
That door is just a mistake waiting to fail. Eventually they will put regular hinges on it after a few failures.
Amazes me you never have to reposition the tractor when hooking back up !
Can't wait for the fun you will have in Baltimore. LOL

Because it's not made to be driven on the highway. My Striker 1500 (2 Axle) could be driven off the airport property but only when necessary. Besides, it only got .5 MPG.

Wake up Western Express! I think we've all done that a time or two. Some of those lights are so long, you can't help but fall asleep with you eyes wide open. Cool Striker. Wonder why the air actuated doors? Seems like they're just something else that will go wrong at the worst possible moment. You're right, Steve. I can already see someone trying to open those doors with those latches in place.

  • @stephenhunter70

I wonder if it's possible to get the actual person who will load it onto the ship to come to the truck at the port before you unload it?

  • @ph11p3540

The air operated door gives positive indications that your air breaks are stuck closed and your truck is not going to be fighting any fires that day.

Yes, I have a soft spot in my heart for the sound of the Detroit 8v92. Drove many fire apparatus with Detroits, including some old jewels with the 671 and 12v71. Many had Cats or Cummins, but the sound of that Detroit! You just have to hear the song of an old Crown Firecoach with the 671!

@11:32 , It's best to have ONE only person directing the driver.
I would trust the owner/driver of the drop deck trailer.
However, the company that owns the firefighting "Snozzle" truck, might stipulate that only company employees direct the loading of their vehicles.
I still reckon that their should be only ONE dude directing the driver,
because in the event of an "incident" there would be untolds of hand washing like Pontius Pilate did.

Great video... too bad the Striker is a piece of crap. If you aren't familiar with them, they are overly complicated, all pneumatic, plastic garbage cans. Within the first year of use, the maintenance crew working on that truck will be chasing tiny air leaks, which will be MANY and hidden in the most inaccessible places within the truck. The roof turret will absolutely go out of calibration allowing the operator to accidentally over rotate until it crashes into the cab. The rack and pinion in the bumper turret will jump teeth for no reason. The A/C system is split with two compressors at the extreme rear of the vehicle and 100' plus feet of refrigerant lines weaving all the way to the front, which WILL leak somewhere requiring some poor bastard to trace said leak. Plastic detents in the slide out trays will snap off. Our striker is 7 years old and has had the same recurring issues the entire time.
