At 5.18, the building with SITAR sign was accommodation for seasonal workers. The year was 1971/72. It was a great time for many young people on gap years and the hippy era was still in evidence. The De La Rue pub was unofficially "The Irish Embassy" great for networking and sharing information about jobs etc. I have many happy memories of Guernsey. I loved the island. We were all so young and carefree, in our early teens. It seemed like paradise coming from the bleak years of the troubles in N Ireland. A big influx from Derry and Belfast. Great happy times. Thank you for sharing. 💗

40s and 50s we didn't have a car, neither mum or dad ever drove in their lives. We used Shanks's pony and buses and we coped no problem. I rode my bicycle from Nocq road up to the Grammar school every day - maybe a bus from The Bridge to St Julian's Avenue and walked up from there - if the weather wasn't good. The building opposite the Colonette Hotel used to be the Education department in those days. Thank you Ross another super drive along known roads.

Stayed at La Collinette many times for summer holiday many times from late 1980's until recently. (before covid) Mostly self catering, sometimes in hotel. Would highly recommend it. Great owner and staff. In the hotel grounds is the German Signals HQ bunker from WW2. Great visit if you are interested in radio. Recognised all the roads around the area. Loved driving in Guernsey, even the Filter in Turns,

    Another excellent video Ross 👍
I patrolled every one of the roads in this clip during my 4 month secondment to Guernsey Police a couple of years ago so it was good to see them all again in your footage!
Also visited the fire station on most of my shifts as Guernsey Police refuel their vehicles there.

Very Interesting to see the narrow roads in St Peter Port. I remember the cinema where it used to be.

Awesome! I used to live in a flat above that Chinese takeaway at the top of Mansell Street! I used to love it around there too... used to be so many cool little restaurants, I'd be eating out all the time... and my girlfriend lived at the top of Victoria Road... very handy! :D I moved away 24 years ago, and haven't been home since 2008... these videos are making me very homesick!!

Gabriels was great. I wonder where elderly ladies shop now ...😊
Another great emporium in my day, was Decorative Crafts....they used to sell on the never never. You could buy clothes, shoes, furniture & carpets too. My father used to work at Fuzzeys , which was in upper Bordage .
My aunty lived up George Street ( where that car was more or less). Her neighbour was the Martel family - with the famous little Linda Martel.
Thanks for the memories Ross. 😊

Yes, rememberr Gabriel´s. Didint go there myself, but friends did. Know those tiny roads round Mansell St as my father had a business down that way towards the market till the end of the 1970s. Min 6:40, the yellow wall on the right used to be the nursery school where i went to in 1966/67 (!).

So many spots we went by last June. You drove by the Tower but didn't mention it. We got the key and walked up. So narrow. Thanks for the great scenery.

@@livinginguernsey I’m copied this from the news….The Body Shop Canada will close nearly a third of its stores and end online sales as it seeks creditor protection, the Canadian subsidiary of the U.K. beauty and cosmetics shop announced Friday.
A court filing showed the company owes more than $3.3 million to unsecured creditors and about $16,400 to secured creditors.
The company did not say how many workers would lose their jobs as a result of the store closures in cities including Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon and Saint John.

    It's certainly very like Cornwall.
I reckon I'd have a scooter or a small motorbike if I lived there.

You sound very west country (like Devon/Cornwall). Not sure what I expected a Guernsey accent to be like though.

Hi Ross - just wondering, with Guernsey's low speed limits, does your Fiesta ever use any gear above third?
