    What is the craziest place you have visited in Guernsey? For us, it has to be either the neolithic tombs or the huge, hidden quarry! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don't forget to hit that subscribe button!

      About 3,500 to 1,500 BC years ago, neolithic people lived on Ivy Castle site.

    If you spend long enough in guernsey you will find so many hidden gems . Walk the lanes of the upper parishes and look for the witches seats on the sides of farmhouses. Try to find the pilgrims walks, green lanes from the parish churches down to the sea. The island may be small but our history is so interesting due to our English / French roots.

    The photo at 08:54 is a still from the 1970s ITV drama series, Enemy at the Door. The scene concerned is set on (and filmed on) Sark.

    I've been to all of those. Live in NZ but born in Guernsey. We've been back 4 times and yes those were all on our to do list. When we lived there not so much, although we did live right next door to the Ivy Castle and went in there many times.

    This is amazing and also six more reasons to visit this Island at some point once we can... lol. Nice choice of music with the burial place, felt like I'm watching "Stranger Things" for a moment. The quarry does seem like a good spot for a thriller or horror movie too and that chapel has some Mediterranean feel for some reason. Awesome video as always ! ;)

    So many real gems in Guernsey. Check out Le Souffleur , the Blow hole by Pleinmont.. What about the privately owned ‘little’ German Occupation Museum showing amongst other things, a condom issued a to the German occupying forces! Pretty weird but actually a real gem of a museum...And all the little vennels, the tiny cobbled back lanes around St Peter Port are great, full of intrigue..

    I never heard the story of theLittle Chapel being knocked down and rebuilt so a fat chap could fit in through the entrance. Is it true? I’ve lived here all my life, surely I’d have heard that weird fact!

    • @highlands2hammocks
      @highlands2hammocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had to double check but indeed in 1923 the bishop of Portsmouth couldn’t fit through the door and it had to be rebuilt 😂 you can read about It in the visitguernsey website

    Absolutely hated, Guernsey! Spent 2 years there. At first I was very impressed with beautiful sceneries, to then realise how small the place is! It is very easy to have been everywhere in less than a month. Then, you realise there is no privacy! Anywhere you go, you will meet people from work, or someone who wants to know exactly where you work cos they apparently know your manager. Then you have the permit story! They will give you only a 5 year permit! Which is not very nice considering you have moved all your stuff in there! Then they attach this permit to your post, which means that employers have so much power over you, and don't they know it! Leaving the island is a nightmare with ferries getting cancelled cos of the weather, this is what they tell you. Food is ridiculously expensive and not fresh! Any vegetables you won't be able to keep them more than one day in the fridge! People are very polite at first, then you realise they really make a difference between different groups living in the island. Don't try to get any help or services! They will tell you to wait 6 months if you are lucky or decide to pay 3 times the price! Don't expect quotes or detailed invoices! And also they want to be paid by transfer of course. I could carry on for pages. The worst is that there are no laws! Employers call each other on individuals and have complete disregard for what you would assume not legal for an employer to ask you at work in the UK. Another thing is by car it's a nightmare, by bicycle it is dangerous, and they have complete disregard for ecology or the environment. People would use their cars on stop, leave their engine on for hours. They like racing with cars on the beach! This island is suffocating and clostrophobic, to say the least. They have just introduced anti discrimination laws, which were put in place in the UK in the 70s, and yet have not been put in place as they are opposing it! Shops are old and there are not many! And they are not ipen minded people at all! It's a bit like Wales where everyone is white and they hate everyone who is different, and spend their time gossiping because they are so bored!

      I do hope you have left Guernsey, we can do without you and it would make room for someone who does actually appreciate all the positives, someone would be a part of the community not apart from it.

      Completely agree I had to move hear from the uk and I’ve done most of education here the day I finish my A-levels I’m gone. I love the safety but the people are so annoying the constant blatant discrimination is shocking against anyone who wasn’t born here or has an extensive family history on the island or worse doesn’t go to church

    The fairy ring does have something to do with witchcraft and fairies!please read our local folklore before you post things! Fairies and witches were said to dance around it during full moons!
