Thank you for showing the differences (and similarities) in detail, much appreciated. I went with the open version as I use them in a quiet environment - wider soundstage, cooler ears, and at £70 they were a stinkin' steal.
I ended up with the open back after watching your numerous reviews on it and a bunch of others. I love them, they are the best headset I’ve owned - which isn’t saying much since I used to have a ton of turtle beach in the 360 days, then a hyperx cloudx and then Astro a10.
Ive been fairly new to the whole pc gaming thing (got mine 6 months ago) so ive made a lot of decisions from your reviews so I very much appreciate the work you do, and the detachable mic is big
@@louieduarte7436most def the best headset I have used. Amazing sound, feels well built, the magnetic mic still surprises me when taking off and on. At first I felt them a little heavy since I used smaller headsets before but it gets to a point that you forget you have them on. Chose the closed ones over the open ones due to noise outside my window during the day which is when I mostly play. One of the few buys that doesn't leave you wondering if you could've made a better decision. Now it's up to you to choose between the open or closed one. Hope I answered your question
I personally have an open and closed back headphone / headset for gaming being the Corsair HS70SE and Drop x Senheisser Jubilee X58s which offers a variety gaming sounds depending on th3 games I play. Admittedly, I use my Jubilee x58 more often then the HS70SE.
Yeah same it's just that open back gives you a more spacious feeling instead of the sound feeling trapped inside your headphones/headset. But for gaming imaging is still more important than sound stage.
Been hoping you’d review these, thanks Techne! Really like them personally, and the giveaway being available to us Canadians is deadly, thanks! Still not sure for open or closed… want to make the switch to open but so hard to know til you try em.
Got the same feeling right there, I think EPOS makes high quality gaming headsets, but with a relatively high price range. Anyways GLHF on CoD Vanguard my man!
I have to wonder if you were playing on console, or not using a dac/amp. The open backed version is less sensitive and thus quieter than the closed back, so you might need a preamp. This could also be an excellent example of how "immersion" doesn't mean the same thing for everyone. Most people would say open backed is more immersive because it's more accurate and the sound stage is wider giving you a more 3d sense of where sounds are coming from. It's also easier to make open backed headphones sound more natural without exaggerated mid, lows or highs because the sound isn't bouncing around in a confined space. But if your environment has any amount of noise the isolation of closed back can be much more immersive despite sounding objectively worse all else being equal.
I've always loved how you mute the mic on Sennheiser/EPOS headsets... Upgraded to the H6Pro (open) from my 5-year-old Game one headset and I'm very happy indeed... top-quality headset!
just picked these up today to replace both wired MS stereo headset and steelseries nova 3 wired headset. I’m a console gamer, sitting at a desk with a monitor….hands down, this headset blows both out of the water in all aspects. I agree with the price concern. That said, picked them up from bestbuy on sale for $136. At this price, it’s a no brainer. Such an amazing headset. 👌
I just realised I won a giveaway back in october, but my gmail notifs were off. hopefully I'll keep track next time, the videos are what's most important anyways and I'm glad to be able to watch your videos for free! Edit: I think I know the real reason why, my samsung phone broke around the time I entered and I got a new phone after I had won, but I didn't get the notification as I had just switched devices. I guess that's some unlucky timing! Keep up the good work as always!👍
I really wish you had swapped the pads and retest the open back to see if that improved the sound but still giving you the soundstage over the closed back
Pretty entertaining watching this, especially a year out, with so many new products out, and so many more reviews having come out since, including yours. I think what you were trying to say about open vs. closed back is the open back are considered to have a wider soundstage, and sometimes more pronounced mids (so you can hear footsteps easier), which appeals to many gamers, lol. I feel like you have really learned a lot in the last year, your reviews just get better and better (I have learned a bunch too, from you and other similar reviewers). I recently picked up the Audeze Maxwell, and your review was one of the ones that helped me with that decision. Even though I have that box checked, I am now sorta hooked on the gaming and audiophile headset hobby, probably will be for a little while. So, while I don't need any more headphones or headsets... I will surely end up with some. Btw, your biggest gripe with these, the price, well they are now down to $120, so if you don't need the latest and greatest, that issue is solved. I am seriously considering picking one up. The Game Zero closed back is now down to a ridiculously low $50 - makes you almost hard not to buy it. Part of the whole youtube-amazon-consumer phenomenon - it's sort of a weird consumer-entertainment dopamine loop that seems to be a thing that has developed and mushroomed. So many video reviews to watch about so many different products - it's better than Netflix. Anyway, I hope you can keep these videos coming, they are really entertaining and informative, you have a great, down-to-earth friendly no-bs style, very refreshing.

I’ve been watching your reviews. awesome detail video as usual! I’ve never had any Epos headset. Been searching for a headset for months! I love your vid about razer, hyper x, and steel series now I’m going to look into epos.
Great review. I picked up the open and closed to compare. The open back was a clear winner for me while playing Starfield on Series X, so I returned the closed. The open is plenty loud enough for me on Xbox, and the lows, mids, and highs are all amazing…it feels like I’m in the environment. Even though I had a closed back before these, the H6 closed back sound felt too claustrophobic, like people yelling at me in a chamber, but I can understand why people would want them for a FPS.
How is the bass response on the open compared to the closed? The only thing I’m worried about in getting the open is that there might be a lack of bass
Firstly, I’m not super experienced in headphones. This is my first decent set after using Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 for last couple of years. I will say that the bass response with the H6 opens is more than I expected after hearing reviews. Hypothetically, if I had the option of turning the bass or volume up more, I wouldn’t, because any more bass would be uncomfortable for me. That being said, of course the closed does give you another level of up front and close bass. The open set for me is like buying a concert ticket in the middle section of the main floor in a theater where the sound is balanced, and the closed is like buying a ticket in the front row or in front of the speaker. It’s just about preference. I will add that another reason I got the open is that I have three kids and the open back allows me to hear them should they need something at night or anything lol. With a closed back, I found myself putting one ear only half on so I could hear my surroundings.
@@MasetheguitarmanI just got a pair of these in open, coming from an (super bassy) Xbox Wireless Headset I basically had the same thoughts beforehand, would the bass feel flat in comparison? I'm waiting for the day that someone makes a pair of open back and wireless headphones. I can't get away from the convenience of wireless. I love gaming with the boys and going to grab another drink but not having to leave the conversation.
Wireless is so annoying just because of the charging. I had some Logitech g935 and the forgetting to charge and then having to charge it got so annoying that i just ended up keeping the cable always attached to them. I upgraded the the h6pro and i don't think i would ever get wireless headphones again unless they had a similar dock like the astro a50. Sitting on the predecessor several generations back. Sennheiser PC360 G4ME and will probably upgrade to the H6Pro. I love open headsets but I've heard from several ppl that the closed H6P just sound a lot punchier. Probably will go with the closed ones. Thanks for the good review. I like your review style. (:
If the ear cups are removable, could you purchase the opposite ear cup. So if you have closed could you not just buy the open ear cup and change them out depending on the game you want to play?
I am looking at gaming headset specifically for Sim racing (iRacing, ACC, R3E). I think EPOS H6 Pro Open-back will fit me pretty well because the audio is usually pretty loud so i think the open-back will give the sound that breathy airiness that is needed.
I was thinking about getting the closed back ones... I just wanted to understand if the external DAC (EPOS GSX 300) would elevate the h6pros to the next level... anyone?
Will the closed ones isolate your voice more and ignore the stuff in the background more than the open ones? Just curious because I’m deciding to buy one and I want it to be comfortable. If someone could tell me that would be great, thank u. Also would these be better than the EposH3 Hybird??
@@PixelPlayz101 did you like them? are you using straight from your motherboard or do you have an external DAC? I was thinking about ordering the closedback ones with EPOS GSX300 soundcard/DAC. I wanted to understand if GSX 300 elevates it to the next level or doesn't make much difference
Is there a way to balance the sound coming from the game versus the voice chat of your playing partners (where you can make one louder/quieter than the other)?
I have a question, please help me.... so I have a steelseries arctis pro wireless and they broke. I bought both the pc38x and these. Both sounded great but the pc38x felt cheap and wasn't very comfortable. The comfort level was night day. As soon as I put the h6s on, I returned the pc38x's.
I have one question I ordered those headsets I have the Astra 40 headsets are you able to turn down your teammates voice to hear the game sound for your teammate is loud from these headsets ?
i bought the openbacks with the gsx 300 thingy. I plugged em in on my soundblaster x ae5 and then o my god! These things are amaaaaaazing! and they go REALLY loud! in the soundcard. With the gsx 300 its a little more tempered but either way, i love em!
I own the H6 pro closed back and I own the seenheiser hd560s open back and for my person taste the 560s blows away the H6 pro out of the water in every aspect. I do love the H6 pro I still have them
Damn i own the hd560s myself and was thinking about getting closed back headset due to background noises or even just an upgrade potentially. Another thing is convenience of the mic. Tried any other headsets that work better than the hd560s in terms of imaging?
I just picked up the closed version, on the box it states "Racing Green" but is blue like the ones in the video, still it looks really nice! Can confirm the sound is stellar! This is from someone that has a lot of different headphones! I got the GSX 300 DAC/AMP for this as well and works amazingly! I needed a closed-back and the isolation is fantastic and sounds more immediate and responsive!
Do you still have them with the gsx 300? I've been thinking about getting them as my personal combo, but have been getting mixed signals from online reviews, how's the DAC in your opinion? Does it improve the mic at all?
I got the bundle A few days ago. With the DAC. Let me say, im not imopressed. Not at all. I play alot og WZ. When i start shooting, the sound level of gun shots is decresing to ablut 30-40%. So for me, i cant hear what Direction the shots are coming from. Came from a blackshark v2 pro, and that was great. Dont know if my pair of H6Pro is broken 😐 the dac is for. Me worthless. Should cost around 10-15 bucks.
It sounds like you got the "wrong" colour headset in the box. The "Racing Green " ones are in fact dark green (usually called "British racing green", as it's the colour that was used on old-school British race cars), with subtle gold accents. The "Sebring Black" is the one that is actually dark blue. Both look great IMO. I am about to buy a pair of these (closed) H6PRO and can't decide which colour I like best. The green is very distinctive and cool looking. You can now get them in the UK for £80 ($97 US), which seems like amazing value.
Have u tried on ps5. Whats ya thought. So far. Out to date. Whats the best headphone below 300$ wired and wireless. And with mic. Hows h6 closed. Still worth till this day?
Hi Techne. I bought the open back version and very unhappy with the sound. Not sure if my pair are giving the right sound. It sounds very hollow. I don’t have any other open backs to compare but I know I enjoy my new HS 65 sound and Blacksharks. The Epps sound way off compared to those. Playing battlefield 2042 sounds horrible. Do you think mine may be defective.
Guys, i tested the open back model for two days now. It sounds far from almost linear and the tuning is way too "bath tub" in my opinion. There is a huge hole in the mids ranging from 500 Hz to 2,5 kHz and had to be boosted in a curve up to 5 db via EQ. This should not be a problem right? However, the highs/ treble are way too artificial and not clean at all. There is something pretty nasty in there (@ 10 kHz) which u can NOT get rid off even with an equalizer. The bass too strong as well but can be tuned OK-wise. Music from which i know has excellent sound sounds OK at best but ONLY WITH an EQ! But you alnost need a different EQ setting for each new album or sound video. The build quality is great, it's comfortable even with glasses. The Mic is OK, not a full body at all but with a very smooth mid range. Cable noise is OK but could be better. For Sound Enthusiasts THIS IS NOT FOR YOU! Rather try some great pair of headphones (studio quality or similar) where you can remove the cable, so you can attach a boompro Mic (VModa) therefore using it as a headset. At least this is what i am going for. I already returned the HyperX Cloud II and III and now this. I hope this was helpful for you, cheers!

I love open headsets but I've heard from several ppl that the closed H6P just sound a lot punchier. Probably will go with the closed ones. Thanks for the good review. I like your review style. (:
i'm happy that you compared the sound to the 99 Neos, mainly because i have the meze's haha, they are by far my favorite headphones, so good
man I love the Neo's
The Master Chief Green ones are on sale at Best Buy for $99. After seeing this, Im def gonna go pick them up.
If the ear cups are removable, could you purchase the opposite ear cup. So if you have closed could you not just buy the open ear cup and change them out depending on the game you want to play?
Yes you cloud but it might mess up/ruin the audio
The ear cups aren’t the only difference though. Part of the grille is open vs the closed back where everything is sealed.
I am looking at gaming headset specifically for Sim racing (iRacing, ACC, R3E). I think EPOS H6 Pro Open-back will fit me pretty well because the audio is usually pretty loud so i think the open-back will give the sound that breathy airiness that is needed.
I alomost bought a pair of Epos thanks for the review your always honest about the products thank you
I was thinking about getting the closed back ones... I just wanted to understand if the external DAC (EPOS GSX 300) would elevate the h6pros to the next level... anyone?
Yes, I have the dac with gsp600 and it’s unbelievable one of the best purchases I’ve made
How does the close back compare to the Corsair HS80?? I'm torn between the two!
Will the closed ones isolate your voice more and ignore the stuff in the background more than the open ones? Just curious because I’m deciding to buy one and I want it to be comfortable. If someone could tell me that would be great, thank u. Also would these be better than the EposH3 Hybird??
Yes and yes, closed back headphones/headset will block out more sounds.
@@EdgeOfDarkness86 Thank you, I ordered them
@@PixelPlayz101 did you like them? are you using straight from your motherboard or do you have an external DAC? I was thinking about ordering the closedback ones with EPOS GSX300 soundcard/DAC. I wanted to understand if GSX 300 elevates it to the next level or doesn't make much difference
Is there a way to balance the sound coming from the game versus the voice chat of your playing partners (where you can make one louder/quieter than the other)?
I think you need their audio dac for that, I have it and it is absolutely amazing if you have the money to get it eventually
@@GoldnShadow yeah you need a dac just had the artics pro which did great at doing so but is an expensive headset
How long is the mic cable?
Finally decided to buy a pair of these. They are on clearance for $60
Hey, send open back to Brazil. Nice review as always man, thanks!
I have a question, please help me.... so I have a steelseries arctis pro wireless and they broke. Store were I buy them don't have them anymore, they are out of stock and they have every other steelseries model that I can get.I only return them headphones, the base stayed with me. So my question is can i maybe buy arctis 9 or 7 and pair them with the base, and would i have benefited in any way from such a setup 🤔
Love the review man. I'm deffinetly a open back kind of guy.
Ive memorized most of your speeches during watching your well judged and honest videos.. ask me anything and I’ll shock you how much I’ve learned from your channel.. I’ll be so honored winning a headset but am not so lucky.. getting a pair from techno is just not believable its a pleasure and the main value of the headset..
So is the only difference the pads?
That doesn't make one open back.
Which one should i buy, the open version or the close version?
Thank you so much, it it wasnt for you I wouldn't have picked these amazing headphones up
Do you need a dac/amp for these if you want to have surround sound, to hear footsteps etc?
no
@@TheTechne But wont something like the gsx1000 or the creative soundblasterX G6 help a lot in terms of audio quality? (right now im using the small dongle from my hyperx cloud ll)
Just order closed one green H6Pro with 69 €, blackweek sale. I was actually looking for open one, but they seems to be sold, even price is still 179 €
Arctis pro wired without gamedac or this headset? Which is better?
Great review! In my opinion, the razer blackshark v2 x is a really good headset for its price
It would be awesome to have international giveaway. Btw really love your work man ! Coming from France.
I'm playing with my sennheiser p350se and this one may be replaced it
Great review man !!!! Should you buy the EPOS H60 pro or the CORSAIR HS80 RGB ? Stuck on which one to get ?? Thanks yeah Michael Thompson no giveaways for us down in Australia
Yes me as well
Just picked up the 'black' open back and it hurts the top of my head.. does it bother you?
Your reviews is so informative and helpful , forrreal
Can you replace the earcups with wicked cushions?
This headset vs steel series 7X 2022 new version which one do you go with? I need a new headset I don't know whether to go wired or wireless. Coming from my broke blackshark v2 pro love the big sound they give. do I need a dac whats best to go with without breaking the bank?
These headphones are looking great. Great vid
Can you compare these with PC38X?
I bought both the pc38x and these. Both sounded great but the pc38x felt cheap and wasn't very comfortable. The comfort level was night day. As soon as I put the h6s on, I returned the pc38x's.
I have one question I ordered those headsets I have the Astra 40 headsets are you able to turn down your teammates voice to hear the game sound for your teammate is loud from these headsets ?
have the open set coming. can't wait!!!!!!!!
i bought the openbacks with the gsx 300 thingy.
@@petera1556 I heard hyper x orbit is good
So basically - if your ears always touch the drivers - the open back has a firmer pad with more room?
These have a $199 bundle that comes with a sound card now and wondering if you think that would be worth it?
Nice review! These are good looking headsets!
Should I go for it (I'll use it mainly for gaming) or just stick with a hyperx cloud or a steelseries arctis/ logitech g pro x / razer blackshark v2 ?
If I have the ATH M50X and the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro for gaming, is it worth buying the Epos H6 Pro?
So is the Epos H3 hybrids really that bad @The Techne?
If we compare this Headset with the MM150? Which one could be the better?
heyyy... I just bought this H6pro closed.... really awesome..... only downside... its cable a little too short.. just ordered extension cable for it
Have u tried on ps5. Whats ya thought. So far. Out to date. Whats the best headphone below 300$ wired and wireless. And with mic. Hows h6 closed. Still worth till this day?
H6 pro vs arctis 7p+ which better?please
Nice! Whens the H3pro Hybrid coming?
Vzr mode one or h6 pro’s witch would you pick minus the price?
Hello sir are they better than the sennheiser gsp 600 Or did they lose audio quality without The collaboration of sennheiser?
Is it good if you have a loud pc and a stationary fan within 3 feet. Can it cancel it out properly?
I tried open back and now i have closed back comfort i like it way better and the bass is very good and puncy
