- In this video, Portuguese Jimmy reveals his secret recipe for traditional Portuguese prawns, a dish that's spicy, rich, and absolutely delicious! This recipe was passed down from his friend George, and now he's sharing it with you.
Ingredients:
1kg of Jumbo Prawns (unpeeled)
250-350g of margarine or butter
3 cloves of garlic (crushed and peeled)
2/3 red chillis (coarsely chopped)
Olive oil (twice around the pot with a constant pour)
Beer (twice around the pot with a constant pour)
Vodka (twice around the pot with a constant pour)
3 generous squirts of yellow mustard
Optional: a couple of teaspoons of stronger mustard
2 squirts of Piri Piri sauce
Instructions:
Melt the margarine or butter in a large pot or wok.
Add the crushed garlic and chopped red chillis to the pot, letting them cook for a couple of minutes to release their flavors.
Pour in the olive oil and mix well.
Add the prawns to the pot, keeping the heat low for a gentle simmer.
As the prawns start to change color, add the beer and vodka. Let the alcohol evaporate for a couple of minutes.
Stir in the mustard and Piri Piri sauce. For more sauce, add additional margarine or butter.
Serve with bread for dipping, with rice as a curry, or with pasta.
Portuguese Jimmy recommends this recipe for those who like their food with a kick. If you prefer a milder version, adjust the chillis, mustard, and Piri Piri sauce accordingly.
