Maybe I'm a dinosaur here, but as someone who grew up watching Food Network, I really loved this format. I've started to detest the TikTok and TH-cam short recipes of people plopping down food on a cutting board and dizzily assembling ingredients in a blur all before only slowing down to perform the obligatory "knife drag to show how crunchy my food is!" maneuver. Anyway, this calm, slower format is really what I love. Reminds me of things like Emeril Live, just having the chef show you in real-time how it's done while explaining their reasoning for things. It's really relaxing and informative. I hope to see more like this, thanks Bri. This concludes the "old man screams at cloud" portion of the comment section.
Dude... Fellow cloud screamer here.... I never got the "knife drag". Emeril is legend. I love Guy Fieri, but Justin Wilson was THE MAN that started it. Kent Rollins is carrying the torch. Brian is the modern culmination of all these dudes. Love his content. The fact he's local to me and the chances I might run into him in a market gives extra points. Rock on brothers. Y'all be safe, and cook on!!!!
Being good enough at both cooking and being in front of a camera to be able to whip up a dish AND talk all along without falling into the trap of incoherent rambling is definitely an underrated skill combination. Great job! Also, kudos to Lauren for pointing out relevant stuff every now and then

Love it. There's a lot of people out there that don't know how to prep to make cooking fast. This helps them a lot. I love having Loren? Lauren? there making comments and asking questions. It's like having a surrogate in the kitchen for the audience.
I don't like the new format. I used to watch a lot of Joshua Weisman's channel. But then he started doing more and more what I like to call "TV show" cooking. It's a format where it's more focused around the content being "entertaining" then actually showing you how to cook. The worst re-occurring style that he does is called "But Faster." He has one of his crew get in their car and drive to some fast food place to pick food. And then he has to cook the same food before they get back. I absolutely hate it. Why? Two reasons. First off, he'll gloss over what he's doing during crucial parts. And he'll say "the recipe is in the description." He does this because he's focused on "winning". The second reason I hate his "But Better" format, is that it's stressful to watch. There is a palpable sense of tension, as he tries to "beat the clock." I don't want the cooking show I'm watching to be stressful. It makes me stressful, and makes me far less inclined to want to make the food. You produce amazing content Bri. There is a reason I get 95% of all my recipes from you. You are simply the best. No one does a better job of explaining the techniques and tricky parts of recipes. No one. And you put the time and effort into making your recipes right, through trial and error. Please don't do this format again. I appreciate that you are trying something new. And the fact that you had to record this 3 separate times. But it's stressful to watch. I hate to say this, but this sort of content will probably grow your channel. It definitely seemed to help Joshua Weisman. But it's not good for people that actually want to make your recipes. No matter how many takes you do, there is always going to be some stress from these types of videos. It's not you. It's the format.
I like the format but I also like how the more edited vids are only 10-12 mins. And I've never really distrusted your time estimates. Yeah, maybe it takes me 35 vs 30 mins but... eh.
It was so nice seeing you and Lorn together. Even if it was scripted it was great that she asked common sense practical questions. Could tell Bri Guy was nervous. Don’t be. Gonna be watching your more for the sophisticated cooking instructions, practical tips and Loren’s practical questions. Best wishes to both of you.
I love this format!! Don't get me wrong, I love your more edited videos as well, but this is a really cool look into the process and your kitchen "flow" :) Also, for anyone reading this comment, his chicken schwarma tacos (which I believe are also a weeknighting recipe because they are easy peasy) are *chef's kiss* - we make those at least 2-3 times a month. Definitely going to add this to our rotation as this is even easier!
Ok, one more thing. This style of video, which I feel may give you anxiety due to the attempts and not super crisp/clean/edited experience is... AWESOME! I love the rawness of it and with lorn keeping it on track and asking the foodie questions rocks, IMHO. You two make a terrific team. ❤ Do more. 🤙
Hi Brian, Follow your work since begining and it's nice to see that format that show us not only pro angles but even Lauren and her questions. It's more personal and I think it's a win! Keep up the good work! 👍
This is a FABULOUS format - love it! So much good information along the way. And Lorn is a superstar.⭐ Could you please weeknight the sushi inspired salad and asian rice bowl you mentioned? Those sound wonderful.
I really like the "real-time" format. I think one improvement could be to have you list off/show the ingredients and tools required at the beginning of the video so people wanting to follow along in real-time can have everything ready to go. Keep up the awesome work! Been a follower since the early Weeds & Sardine's days and its been great to see this channel grow and evolve!
@@carsonpredovich3399 Since the name of the format IS “real-time”, the way you used quotations implies that there’s doubt to the video actually being a real-time format. Don’t.

The crisp editing we normally see is definitely awesome but the improvisational charisma is super entertaining. Everyone send weeds and sardines a kofi tip so he can buy a real window shade
fantastic video. your production quality has gotten top notch, and doing it 'live' like this doesn't detract from that at all. I love cooking for/with someone else as well and this captured the spirit perfectly. I'm far from the first to say it but Lorn is a hidden gem too.
I love this format, just please keep giving all the little tips to help those of us who are learning what and how. But I have a tip for you. I also buy the pealed garlic, but I keep it in the freezer. Then I remove the cloves I need, put them in a very small bowl, microwave with cover 30 seconds, then crush the garlic. So easy and no waste at all.
Favorite video of yours ever. Recipe looks awesome, but the format of the video - more please. Doing it realtime was so much fun, and the interaction between the two of you is something other cooking channels are lacking. Locved you guys.
Even if those fantastic looking tacos take me twice as long, it would be the fastest time I ever got a meal made! Excellent video but, now you have to do a lot more of these. I always love it when Lorn plays a guest supporting role.
I like the discussion between the two of you. Not everyone does it well, but I like how you do it, and it adds quite a bit of value to explaining the process.
Man, I was gonna comment how I love this video so much and the only issue with it is that there are no grams for us non-American viewers as there usually is and then I see you did put those grams in the description. By far my favorite chef and one of my all-time favorite channels on TH-cam in general. Stay awesome, Bri!
This video is AWESOME, seriously, I would watch an entire channel of nothing but this format. You guys saved my quick week night dinner tonight from being boring 🙌 I loved that you used ingredients we are already likely to have in the fridge/freezer. I don’t even have to go to the store! Thanks!
Thanks so much for all your work Chef, very refreshing to see something live and unedited the way that most home-cooks make! Looking forward to trying these next week 😊
Always loved your snappy, quirky editing with the *zwips* and stuff, but this really lays it all out for anyone unsure of themselves or figuring they'll spend hours in the kitchen fussing over something that oughtta take them half an hour. Barring some minor knife skill stuff, I could see the real-time format really inspiring people to pull off some
Yeaaaaah, this formats a HUGE winner for me. I love how you actually show us that it can be done in under 25 minutes, especially some tricks to get the prep time down. I know my prep time takes at least 70% of the effort and time needed to make something, especially when i want something NOW. Ive made quite a few recipes of yours now and i havent had one complaint for any of them! Love your work and keep them coming!!
My weeknight "guac" hack is buying pre-made pico de gallo from the store and mixing some of that in with mashed avocado. FAR from traditional, but very easy and still tastes great.

I especially liked the extra hints and tips that found their way into this format, even the unspoken things like cleaning as you go and loved Lauras input with pertinent questions. This style made the recipe feel really doable. I like your usual style too - looking forward to seeing more of both!
Don't be scared of mandolins, just use a cut glove. You don't have to hurt yourself or spend years learning. Just be prepared and use the right safety gear. They cost like 12 bucks/pair and you can literally saw at your pinky with a steak knife and it wouldn't do anything.
J. Kenji Lopez-Alt and the Sorted guys does a lot of stuff in real time too, and I really dig that format. When you watch a pro cook in real time you learn multitasking, what needs to be prepped ahead, and how to improve efficiency. Awesome video Bri.

So good to see you making a realtime video. I really like when Ethan does it cuz it shows cooking from a realistic perspective and we get to see more about how you manage your time in the kitchen as well as why you make the choices you make (for example the real garlic in the guac). it's so good that you try new formats.
By far one of the best videos I've seen you do, and the recipe was off the chart. My wife was blown away at how good this tasted and how short prep time was.
This was an amazing showcase of how weeknight cooking can be good while being concise and simple! I think adding a real-time timer on the bottom or top right corner of the video can really help the overall narrative of being on time.
I just made this for dinner tonight and it was a big hit. Even my daughter-in-law, who is part Mexican, loved it. I love your format. Everything was so easy to follow
Format is fantastic. Just made this tonight for some guests. Everyone loves the flavour combinations. Definitely add this one to the weeknight rotation. Thanks from Vancouver!
I’ve watched a lot of videos of cooking in my free time for learning new stuff and maybe bring an idea next time for me, but never had I seen this kind in one take and honestly it was the most informative and helpful one out there! Thank you and now im going to make it myself
Absolutely going to make these… This week! The format is great, but I like the usual format too. It’s just awesome that the talent is fun to watch and has recipes that really work!
I must say, you are one one best best teachers I have come across even if most don’t catch it or keep up. You add so many fine instructions that are so minute if you miss them they are quite critical. Many thanks for some MAJOR secrets! A note to all, replay and listen cuz he knows his Sh!t!
This recipe was magical! I was a little skeptical of the coleslaw but the combo was great. Make this your own by tweaking the ingredients. Full round of thumbs up by my family. Thanks Brian.
I really like your regular rapid-fire, edited videos, but I also really enjoyed this real time format. You’ll still had a tight, organized and informative delivery, but it was fun feeling like I was hanging out with you guys while you prepared the meal. You should definitely do more.
Love it! My wife and I have been making shrimp tacos with slaw for years now, and it really adds so much to it. We recently tried adding pineapple as well and we both really enjoy that addition to the tacos!
Hi im in england and have recenrly stymbked upon your videos.OMG you habe changed my life this recioe wwas one of the tastiest things ive ever eaten. Im working my way through the recipes and they are awsome, tasty, fresh and satisfying. The videos are so easy to follow ,fantastic just fantastic thankyou😊😊
Tip: If you do get the bags of peeled garlic from the store, you can preserve it by adding it to a clean jar (sterilized would be best!) and filling up the jar with EVOO to cover the garlic completely. Stick it in your fridge and you'll have fresh garlic for months and you can use some of that garlic-infused olive oil in your dishes!
Love the new format! Also love the little tips and tidbits on palate. Any tips on developing your palate for beginners? I feel like I totally fit into the category of people who can articulate whether they like or dislike something but don't always really know why / what a dish needs...
Newly subscribed! Love this format. Great food with easily accessible ingredients and filmed from start to finish to illustrate the entire process. Laid back unpretentious couple makes if comfortable to watch too. This is what cooking shows should be like!
Just made these tonight and you were right on (time wise). Was my first time cooking shrimp and they were good. I was a bit apprehensive about the sauce by itself but with the tacos It all comes together very well. Great recipe. Great format! Great work.
Desperately need to go grocery shopping, and yet, this recipe literally calls for things I legit still have in my pantry/freezer. SO GOOD. Thanks for helping tonights dinner be crave-able, instead of super basic and boring.
Loved the recipe. I didn’t have any cabbage in the house but I had everything else. I do love sweet and heat so I added a touch of honey to the sriracha/mayo but the shrimp taco was a hit. I will be adding this to my rotation and I will be keeping cabbage in the crisper. Thanks!
I'll certainly do this one. Love the quick guac and spicy garlic mayo you can use both for tons of stuff. I also enjoy the format for timing the prep and cook. Peace!!
I personally prefer the editing as it keeps my ADD brain more locked in to each step of the cooking process, but I like this real time format for the practical conversation it brings. Keep being awesome!
I loved this! I do like the traditional format of the las couple of years or so, but this was really cool! I loved that Lorn asked questions I would’ve asked if I was with you!
your wife really adds to the content. I like the questions she asks, and she brings some personality to your vids 🤣. I haven't been following you long but I've been going back through almost all of your vids and really like your common sense approach. You said it perfectly once, (paraphrasing) "professional chefs don't generally make great teachers for home cooks" and I completely agree. Your spice (what quality) vid really convinced me you're "down home" and we don't need the most expensive ingredients to make a great home meal. Keep up the good work. I recommend you constantly (and share your vids) on FB constantly. I hope to see you blow up like my other fav chef, Joshua Weissman. Nice work guys.
Hey Bri, if that sounded like some sort of back handed insult, it was not meant to be. I genuinely enjoy your content. The comment about personality was just ribbing ya.

Made them and they were really great and so fast. Hubby asked to add these to the rotation so I will definitely be making them again.
I made the entire menu for dinner today and everything was so delicious! I love that it was quick with simple ingredients. 💕 Thanks for sharing😊
Love it that he gives all the ingredients n measurements below rather than you having to jump from this place to that! Looks yummy n thank you!! ❤
I love watching you live. Thanks for all the time that you spent getting this right. Looks delicious.
Yesterday we made the peanut dressing from the BAS 3 and put it on some slaw mix and it was absolutely delicious.
That’s a perfect application for it
Love this authentic format; I know it won't work for all recipes but it's perfect for this one.
Your usual format is my fav, but this would be a fun thing to do on occasion. Enjoyed seeing Lauren as your co-star!
I’ve made a number of your recipes for family and friends - the compliments are insane. Trying this bad boy tonight.
Thanks! These came out really tasty! Tacos are part of my regular routine, but I’ve never cooked shrimp before. Quick, fresh, and delicious!
This was great. Love the way it was shot and cut. Lauren you cool; all the right questions. And it looked delicious.
love your cooking videos! simple and straight to the point. Also love that you have the recipe listed down below
Weeknighting is my favorite series of yours, Brian, and I love the new live format idea. Keep up the great work!
Just made these. They were delicious. Your videos are great!
Yup - great format - Brian does a great job - fast, to the point, done.
LOVE shrimp tacos! These look delicious!
Peace!!
This format was awesome! Hearing your thought process on your decisions was awesome! Best one yet!
Brian, you nailed this dish! I love everything about this. Lauren did a great job too!
your wife really adds to the content.
