Hi Mariella, this video was touching. Thank you for sharing your story. I am in my last year of Bachelor's in Psychology and discovered that it's actually Speech-Language Pathology that I'll be pursuing for Master's. Your other video mentioned that you attended NOVA -which was helpful because I started looking into NOVA. I will continue to weigh my options (focused in Florida area even though I'm from NYC)- I was initially considering Albizu University in Miami since it was there that I initially started to consider SLP. Have you heard of any positive or negative experiences from anyone regarding their program? Once again thank you again- I especially love the way you express your experiences and knowledge.
I just found your channel. I am an RBT right now, but I am thinking of now pursuing a graduate degree in SLP. My brother is also ASD and I am 15 months younger him so it’s all I’ve ever know.. but much like you, my parents made my life as normal and non consuming as possible... but I always found myself in his SPED classrooms, volunteering, etc. I also did my undergraduate work in Psychology/Sociology and ABA/SLP/OT was also not my first choice. You are such a helpful light on YT for me as I navigate my next steps. Thanks for all you do ☺️
My story is so similar to yours. I am 19 and have a brother 2 years older than me with ASD. I am currently doing my undergrad in psychology but at a community college here in CA. I plan to transfer next fall as a SLP major. Thank you so much for inspiring others. I always knew I wanted to help others and Im so passionate about this career choice. Love your page!! :)
ahh!! you need to download more video content weekly...youre so humble and not show-off like those other families on TH-cam now a days.. I could def learn more from you since I'm shooting for an SLP major as well. watched all your videos...hopefully get to see more..thanks for uploading some informative content!!!
OMG!!! I know that you are probably not going to notice this comment, but I just want to say that after watching this video, it shows that I am not the only person in the world that having a sibling (twin brother) with ASD that makes me want to have a career as an SLP. I related to your video so much. I have always felt that I wanted to help people that I wanted to help those with communication disorders, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do as a career either. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching this video. Definitely will subscribe to your channel!!
I have an older brother with Autism as well. I also want to become an occupational therapist or speech-language pathologist. I love helping people too! Thank you for sharing your experience!
I LOVE your content. Thank you so much for being so open! I am just starting this new journey finishing my undergrad to become an SLP. Your tips are everything!
I was just accepted into my undergrad slp program. I’m torn between finishing the prerequisites for Nursing or accepting my acceptance letter for my undergrad. I definitely have a lot to think about. Glad I came across your channel. ☺️
Woah, my brother also recieved speech therapy as a young kid yet I didnt know at that time that was what I was gonna want to end up studying. My bachelors is also in Psychology and I finish this semester! Im going to continue my Masters in SLP, I live in Puerto Rico and here we have 2 universities that offer it. I know God will guide me, I have always wanted to work with children and how satisfying and happy would it make me to help them communicate and express themselves efficiently! God bless you Mariella!
Hi I am glad I saw your video. I am barely going to start in getting my BA in Child Development.. but to be honest I’ve been thinking of changing majors and become a speech pathologist. I have a question I do have an accent in English my primary Language is Spanish... so do you think I’ll be able to make it to become a speech pathologist? That’s what is holding me back... hopefully you get yo see my post even though you did your vídeo a year ago. Thank you 😊
What science was required? I’m going to be a freshman in college this fall and I know that I want to be an SLP, do you have any tips on what I should focus on ?
Your GPA is so important your undergrad years because that can be your ticket into grad school over someone else. Grad school/a Masters degree is required to become a speech pathologist. ASHA recently made chemistry or physics (you pick one) a mandatory class that you need to take in order to get your certification. For me, I needed a physical science, a lab, and chemistry. I would look on the ASHA website and see the requirements to get a better idea of what you need to take. Again, my advice would be to focus on your GPA and ESPECIALLY when you start taking the SLP classes. When I was applying to grad school, they would ask for my GPA and my SLP classes GPA. I was also told that a "C" in a SLP class does not look good at all. So I would focus on GPA, extracurricular activities that will help your skillset or a job that will help your skillset. I had a friend who worked in a hospital and I knew a girl who volunteered at a pediatric clinic. The goal your undergrad years is to get into an accredited grad school. Anyway, I hope this helps! I encourage you to do more research, this is just based on my personal experience. Honestly, God is the one to thank for all that I have. I wish you the best! Good luck!
Is there any vacancy there for speech language pathologist?
Cant wait to see more slp content
❤ I can not wait to be at this point where I'm actively bonding and helping clients

Nice video! I’m starting the SLP undergrad program soon.
Did you have kids and get married before you were done or after? Or after your clinical fellowship?
Cass I was married prior to entering the masters program. However I had my first child the last week of the masters program externship
