Yes, Huey and Company did this a few times, and they are among the best of the national anthem performances ever. I always tell people to watch Huey Lewis and Whitney Houston if they want to see the TOP performances EVER of our anthem. As for the worst, it's Roseanne Barr and Fergie!
Doggybara I got to work with your dad Jeffery Bonds I say this with unbias he was the best PA announcer the Giants ever had he knew the game and when to introduce the players and did well in replacement situations as well. Your dad was a kind man and a humble man as well I wish I had him our talk show he was great to work with and is missed.
I remember this growing up as a Cards fan. It was the best anthem performance I’d ever seen. Sung straight and to the point with no frills. Whitney Houston’s comes close, but she didn’t sing it live, so this is still the best in my book.
When I ran master control for WIPB channel 49 back in the mid 80s, I used to play this as the station’s sign off at midnight. I used it so often instead of the required sign off that I got written up- there’s no sense of humor in public television!
I think it's a shame that singing the national anthem at a sports event is taken as an opportunity for vocal gymnastics and belting it out at full power. It's just showing off as far as I can see. If you want to know how to do it properly, watch _this_ video.
Peter Cetera, Whitney Houston and now Huey Lewis and the News all of them did the National Anthem all of them amazing! Why is music today so bad? What happened?
One of the best renditions of our national anthem ever! Thanks Huey Lewis and the News

A capella in four part harmony. What is NOT to love?
I can't believe I'm just finding this now, but that was my dad introducing Huey Lewis! He was the PA announcer for the Giants for six years!
Awesome!

@@wonglee2424 That's really kind of you to say, thank you! 😄😄
Every time these guys performed this song, they *nailed* it.
Wow!!! They brought out the feeling of the national anthem!!! Huey Lewis and The News really sang the national anthem and sang it with feeling!!!
One of the best he ever did. . Wish I could have been at any of them. He had great vocal range.
I remember this really well. Apparently they occasionally did this during the regular season too.
They also performed before the 1984 MLB All Star Game at Candlestick Park.
素晴らしいハーモニー…聴き惚れます。

cool rendition
Best version I have EVER heard.
Whitney Houston and Jeffrey Osborne were better but this was great.
Probably the best song they ever did live.

Job.
And in 2018 here we have Fergie's version
America... This is how it’s done and who we are. Hands and hat over our hearts. Kneel if you think that matters. My neighbors know you don’t
You and your neighbors as racists lol
Go Giants!
2nd best anthem next to Whitney Houston.
