    Excellent video. Good information on what type of acid to use on stainless. I had been wondering about that.

    Can i use muriatic acid to stonewashed stainless slingshot frame and do i have to add anything on muriatic acid?

    • @madewellknives
      @madewellknives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for asking, Ive never personally used muriatic acid on stainless. But it’s worth a try 👍 maybe with a scrap piece first.

    GREETINGS, EXCELLENT VIDEO. COULD YOU TELL ME WHAT THE ACID WAS MIXED WITH AND IN WHAT PROPORTION? AND WHY IS THE SECOND DIVE DARKER OR IS IT ANOTHER LIQUID?

    • @madewellknives
      @madewellknives  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@victorediaz1 it’s distilled water mixed with the acid, somewhere around 10-1 12-1 ratio i believe. As it etches, the black oxides will change the color of the clear liquid to a darker color. Hopefully that helps, 👍 thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed!

    How much time are you rolling the tube?

    • @madewellknives
      @madewellknives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe 10-15 minutes, I will open it and check the progress, depending on the look I can repeat the step. I usually do that twice 👍

    I think the stonewashed finish turns out better looking on the stainless vs the high carbon blades myself. What grit do you finish stainless blades to before you acid etch and tumble them? I want to try this with some CPM Magnacut steel.

    • @madewellknives
      @madewellknives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree 👍, this one is cpm154 if I remember correctly, typically I will stop at around 600 grit,

    Hey, nice video! Thanks for your hard work.
    My blade has this lines, which I don't really like. I guess it is marks left after machining? Should I sandpaper/polish it before etching? Is it even possible? And if so, how I do this? What tools/materials would I need?
    Also I'm not even sure if 40% FeCl3 will do anything to my ~1% C ~15% Cr (10Cr15CoMoV) blade but this sulfuric acid reaction looks pretty violent and scary. Soo I guess I'll try to etch some random (similar or even more corrosion-resistant) piece of steel with FeCl3 and if everything will go fine I'll try it on my actual blade.
    Damn your stonewash looks so good.

      Thank you! Im glad you enjoyed the video. Yes I would hand sand the blade up to at least 600grit before etching your blade.

    • @madewellknives
      @madewellknives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great question, but not sure, it’s definitely worth a try. This steel used was cpm154 👍

    What about caustic soda drain opener?
    Also what camera/mic were you using? The sound quality is amazing like butter and the picture is very good aswell

      Thank you so much. I’m using my iPhone and capcut for editing. I would try it and see how it turns out. I use concentrated sulfuric acid for the etching and haven’t really tried others. 👍 have the best day!

    Thanks for sharing. Quick Q: what about the rest of the tang? Do you acid wash that as well or do you leave it be and sand it down after putting the handle on?

    • @madewellknives
      @madewellknives  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m so glad you enjoyed! I will generally sand the spine around where it meets the handle. So the blade has the dark finish but the spine is shiny. If you want to keep it all dark, I would recommend fitting the the handles first, then remove and start the etching/washing technique , but definitely etch the whole knife. 👍 good luck!
      I really Appreciate the feedback

      @@madewellknives thank you for clarifying that. I appreciate the quick reply :) I love a light stone wash finish on a blade and want to also try it out soon. I only use stainless and was wondering how to etch the stainless. Glad i came across this.
