Right after the match in an interview, he *admitted* coaching her. He claims she didn't see him, but he nods on the video as if she did; add to that she told Ramos that "giving her the thumbs up" was an innocent gesture. Clearly, she saw him. This is a violation of the rules (one a great many tennis fans think should be done away with), and the penalty was justified.
The commentator was right, Serena Williams was a victim of her own bad temper. She made multiple derogatory remarks towards and about Ramos, and he'd clearly tolerated enough of her abuse.

Serena Williams was punished according to the rules, Osaka won fair and square, America should be demanding Serena apologize to both Osaka and Ramos! She's the one who got outplayed from start to finish and lost her temper and acted like a child rather than a champion! I admit, some umpires may treat men and women differently, but Ramos isn't one of them! She should have acted like the champion she's supposed to be and taken her complaints about sexist treatment by some umpires to the media and talk shows!

Look, Serena's rant was cringe worthy, the way she talked, her intonation, ton, etc was aggressive and humiliating and quite frankly embarrassing to watch, especially considering who she is and what she's achieved. That said, I do tend to agree with her that there seem to be double standards at play here....would be interesting to see a montage of other similar exchanges on the ATP tour and see whether or not they resulted in a penalty....even more so with Ramos.
