Hi Dimetri, thank you very much for uploading this precious video on you tube. It has increased my knowlwdge on trouble shooting drive train vibrations. I am going to use this info to solve my mercedes c200 vibration. 😊😊😊
I have a 330e from 2016. I have almost identical vibration issue. Comes in intervals, as a low level hum/rumble vibration/noise. Something is there at 35-40mph, goes away and then comes back at 70-80 mph. 4 sets of tyres, new front wheel bearings and alignment done. No change in the vibrations. Just ordered a new propshaft from Germany after watching this. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Hey Dimetri, Just wanted to thank you for your awesome video and it's helped me a lot. How you explain everything and show what your talking about in detail was awesome. I'd buy you a beer if I could. Cheers mate. Vince
They told me I must replace the dual mass flywheel. I'll let you know if this will fix the vibration. They excluded drive shaft or engine mount failure. I'm not 100% persuaded..
@@sergioborghesan6318 sorry to hear that. 2018 320d 160k km, going from service to service… new brakes, new engine mounts, they say the car has no problem…
Its same problem with my f10 520i. Like, i feel vibration from steering wheel & cabins. Smooth but disturbing. From cold start until I drove it, I checked to bmw services and they told me that my car have no problem. So weird
Thanks for the kind words! We don't remember feeling a "kick" or any delay in the engagement of the driveline. It was only the vibration issue covered in the video.
Also I have some vibrations on my F11... Those are present during the accelerations and at constant speed of 130-140 kph... I suspect the rear shaft rubber joint. I have also the engine mounts gone (I feel it, this is my third 5er), thing that makes the vibrations also worse...
The car experiences a very brief and obtrusive juddering when it’s accelerating from a low speed (around 30MPH) on the way up to say 50-60MPH - in this scenario I was accelerating a bit vigorously after slowing down to go through an e-toll, or merging onto a motorway from an on-ramp. The juddering almost feels like the car is going over 4 or 5 shallow potholes in quick succession, lasting 1-2 seconds total as it’s accelerating. The juddering doesn’t seem to impede the acceleration, but it does ease when I ease off the throttle a little. It’s a little puzzling because it doesn’t happen all the time, it doesn’t happen when you floor it from a still and it doesn’t seem to happen when accelerating hard at higher speeds either. When it happened today, the engine and running gear would all be well warm, it was mild and dry outside (10 Celcius) and all my fluids (and everything else) are ok according to the iDrive.
This sounds more like a drivability-related concern. A qualified specialist with a BMW ISTA factory-level diagnostic system would be best able to diagnose this condition.
@alphacars Thanks for the video! Just got my driveshaft out from under the car(rear one) - how did you disassemble the long part from the short part..? There’s no nut keeping them together like on older BMW’s… thanks for any pointers
Hi, I’ve just dropped my propshaft and tried to split it. The shaft has pulled out about half way, but it feels like it’s being stopped by something. It doesn’t have the big nut like some of the other bmw propshafts and looks similar to the one in your video. I did notice at the end of the shaft it has a clip looking piece, but haven’t got that far with mine yet. Any help on how to remove the shaft fully will be much appreciated!
My car is a 2012 320D Luxury, I hear an intermittent buzzing sound from the right front when making right turns. I feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel when making left turns. My tires are relatively new, my alignment is correct, they said there is no problem with the wheel bearings. No matter where I went, they couldn't find the problem, do you have any suggestions?
Unfortunately, without having the vehicle in the shop, it is impossible to provide direction for a diagnostic strategy. My recommendation is to find a shop that can help you.
I have a 2008 528i that it seems like the car is I’m vibrating and wobbling from the front end at speeds over 40 mph..not sure what’s going on. Any help would be appreciated
Call us at 978-263-9000 and we are happy to discuss your service and diagnostic needs! A specialty shop will be your best help. If you're diagnosing this yourself, start with a thorough visual inspection of all front end components, and ensure your wheels and tires are all true and balanced. Without seeing the vehicle in person, that's the only general information we can provide as a starting point.

i got a 2014 328d on 270k bmw in canada just quoted me 1800 CAD just for the part. Great question. The approach is, as a first step, to inspect everything and, given that the vehicle had 100K miles replace worn parts. Most of the time, it will address the vibration concerns. While it made the car drive better, the vibrations were still present. So, this video describes the additional diagnostic work, the drive shaft U-joint inspection, that was done by the shop. In this video, we show the specific issue with the U-joint that caused the driveline vibrations. Thanks for asking the question.

Dual Mass flyeheel and clutch replaced. Vibration didn't change. Vibration pulley seems ok . I'm going to find a non official service. Now 221000 km.
