  • Been battling a bad vibration issue after the whole new setup put together. Turns out a thrust washer on the u joint end cap was the fix.

I took my drive shaft to get balanced at a shop. I had ugly vibrations when i get to 70mph on freeway! I have a 1988 Monte Carlo SS. When i got the shaft back, i intalled it and wow it made a difference. My car runs smooth on freeway and i even hit 100 mph with no issues.

Thank you for videoing this. I have replaced several u joints and never noticed the washers. Normally I don't look at the
    inside cap. Again thank you.

Cool, love this.. hey, I’m not there, but the pinion angle looks odd in the video. I.e. the rear driveshaft entering the rear end looking to be in opposite degree needed for pre-load? The rear just looks like it need adjustment with the awesome looking “adjustable” link? I love the suspension components❤ Yeah, guess that makes the difference for the alignment of the driveshaft, simple thing the thrust washer. Makes the driveshaft rotate without the wobbles off axis. Cool, thanks for-it!

I'm having a tailshaft vibration issue in my 2002 model Holden VY SS Commodore at 40 km/h (25 mph) & it was very bad after I fitted a brand new rubber driveshaft doughnuts or Guibo,it was very bad between 40-60 km/h (25-40 mph) before I replaced the driveshaft centre support bearing & I did press the middle universal joint off to replace the centre bearing because the universal joint yoke had to be removed so that I could remove the centre bearing.
It improved greatly after the centre bearing was replaced but if I stay at 40 km/h then it will vibrate & sometimes it won't.
I need to check the pilot bearing for wear in the transmissions slip yoke because I believe that the tailshaft isn't lining up centrally so I need to check for play in the bush.
The engine that's in the car is a 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 & the transmission is a T56 Tremec 6 speed manual,it does have a worn out axle shaft Inner CV joint but I don't think that's the cause of the problem despite the fact I'm going to replace it anyway !

I've been chasing a vibration forever on my 97 LT1 Camaro SS. Wheels balanced, new harmonic balancer, new 3.5" aluminum driveshaft installed. Lowered on strano springs and koni str.t shocks. Wish I could solve it. Mechanics just say driveshaft or flywheel and shrug. I guess I need an adjustable torque arm to verify pinion angle and adjust if its out of whack

going to go look now. just installed an eatonlocker 3.42 rear end in my s10 and around 45 ish it vibrates real bad. below and above 45 it goes away also might be driveshaft angles

Crazy how that tiny thrust washer could cause a vibration. One thing I haven't double checked on my 97 Camaro hmm

I’m having same dang problem, still chasing it. I also have Spicer U joints… was it missing thrust washer from factory ? Or had it come out when installing unnoticed ?
I’ve recently took my whole driveline out and took it to be rebuilt and balanced, got new U joints. After I reinstalled I’ve had this vibration in rear end and I just had to replace gasket and pinion seal (both had started to leak) I’m thinkin this was symptom of vibration not separate problem.

Was the vibration present under load only or with no load too (pedal off / neutral) ?

Always did it until thrust washer was put back in.

Got a 2000 F350, in Europe!!! Recently it was towed because it was parked illegaly (so they claim). I was not present when they towed it. They cut the bolts that attach the shaft to the flange and removed the shaft from the flange. Towed it about 5 miles and hooked up the shaft again using aluminum bolts. 3 weeks later I drove it off their property. After a couple of maneuvers, trying to get out of their tow-yard, as soon as I got on the street, my flange broke! One thing I forgot to say, throughout all this time, my truck was always attached to a 37foot camper which has about 13,000lbs. Anybody knows why that flange broke?
