      If I had to guess. They won't make many if any low end trucks any time soon. They'll make the expensive stuff for people who can't wait to overpay at the dealers.

      I don’t think so. The really expensive trims are available only as hybrids and the hybrid is not coming out until the Spring of 2024. So you can only order non hybrid less expensive trims for six months.

      @@lespaulguitarist92 that used to be the case. But the profit margin is higher on the other trims so they come first. Try to find a base truck by any MFG today. Parking lots full of high trim over priced and marked up models, but regular trucks are rare as hens teeth. If I wanted a base Tacoma today, I'd have to travel from CO to St. Louis or Oklahoma.

      The prices are the nail in the coffin. Im not spendong 40k+ for plastic valve covers, single cab short bed. Its a robbery. I like single cab short bed v8. But not with plastoc engine for 40k. Ford 10 years ago you got a crew cab v8 with little plastic under the hood for less than 40k. By now the single cab v8 short beds shoulda been better for less.

      I'm not sure why you're surprised. I still have my 1st gen '02 Tundra SR5 access cab 4x4 that I bought new in early 2002. It had an MSRP of $31K+ back then, 21+ years ago. Toyota had a $1,500 rebate at the time & that with a bit of negotiations over 2 days & I was able to get it down to $27,550 out of the door (tax, tags, title, everything included).
      Before anyone says a Tundra is a full-sized truck, well, a 1st gen Tundra is basically the same size as these current 'midsize' trucks including the new '24 Tacoma. I've lost count how many times over the years people have asked me how do I like my Tacoma & they're surprised when I say it's a Tundra. Compare the dimensions of a 2002 Tundra Acces Cab with the '24 Tacoma Double Cab.
      '02 Tundra Access Cab - wheelbase 128.3"/length 218"/width 75"/height 72"
      '24 Tacoma Double Cab - wheelbase 133.5"/length 213.3/width 75"/height 73.5"

This infatuation with having your engine lasts hundreds of thousands of miles is out of hand, in particular when talking about Toyotas moving to turbos. Time will tell on the reliability of these turbos but I don’t keep cars longer than 5-7 years so this is a non issue for me. Life is short. Keeping a vehicle for 20 years is boring and ridiculous

It's nice for the .0001% who keep their vehicle that long but for the rest like you said they get rid of their vehicles after 3-5-7-10 years. 10 is reasonable in my mind, and in 18 months we'll be hitting that mark on our Focus ST with 2.0 Ecoboost. Zero trouble so far, so I really dont think there is any reason to worry about turbocharged engines not lasting as long as most consumers want.

    It's amazing how really different these trucks are even though they all compete with each other. For me the Ford is my least favorite just on styling alone. The Jeep was designed first as an off-roader and my daily routines just do not take me off-road so it probably wouldn't be the best option for me. I also think that the fold down windshield is just a feature that most will never use. I like the Tacoma and the GM trucks the best. Fuel economy, comfort, and price would probably narrow those two down for me. If I am choosing between two crew cab models, the comfort and usability of the rear seat would be a major factor in my final decision. Can't wait to see a more direct comparison between the Tacoma and Colorado in the future. Overall great look at all 4 trucks.

    I will be buying at the end of 2024. Every mid-size truck will be on my list. Will consider 1/2 tons as well. Obviously, price will be a big factor, thus midsize will be more economical than a 1/2 ton in terms of price. I tow a small 2,900 lb camper about 6,000 miles per year with the possibility of more miles as the years go by. Payload is a critical variable. Wondering if the Tacoma with a 6’ bed might be the sweet spot for me. I can’t believe I am typing this, but the GM/Chevy midsize truck are the best looking trucks, imo. Gladiators are sweet, but are easily as expensive as many 1/2 ton trucks. Safety and reliability are important variables as well. I want 4WD and/or AWD, but don’t need a major off-roared trim variant. Wondering if Honda will add the Trail Sport trim to the Ridgeline. I like the new interior of the Ranger, but the styling is a bit pedestrian, imo. A Frontier is a an option as well with its 6 cylinder and 6’ bed, but real world payload seems to be an issue for the Frontier for my needs. In any case, great to see 2024 models!

    • @onefastr6
      @onefastr6 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Agreed. I currently own a Maverick XLT and also am going to jump to a midsize truck in 2024. IMO biggest problem with the Frontier is that Nissan had 15 years to innovate off that platform and did nothing. The pro 4x locally is on the lot for around $46k. For that money the Ford, Chevy and (presumably) Toyota all beat the frontier hands down. The ranger looks good, Tows near the top, gets relatively good gas mileage. The Chevy looks the best, but Toyota will continue to lead the segment. Im going to hold out a bit and let some others dip their toes into the pool and give feedback. Ford is really $crewing their customers. Not just that they don’t rein in their dealers for the markups but if you go to various Ford model forums then you will see that Ford is fulfilling direct dealer orders first instead of orders that were coming from customers via dealers. This seems to be a thing for F250/F350, Bronco, and Transit Van models. It means that some people submitted an order for a MY2020 van then it wasn’t fulfilled and at the end of the MY Ford cancelled their order. They had to submit a new order for MY 2021 then it was not fulfilled and at the end of that MY the order was cancelled again. And the cycle started again. All the while the dealers are getting their orders fulfilled for their lot orders. Some people seem to be waiting for 3 years with new orders resubmitted every year. While the dealers of course put the markups on the vehicles on the lot and in general order fully optioned pricey vehicles.

    SUCH GOOD upgrade on the Gladiator!!! SOme say it would be sad it looses the 3.0L Diesel, but frankly, I wouldn't get that engine as much as I'd want because the paylos penalty, so I would likely get something like the 6 speed manual Mojave X (though I woulc consider the Rubicon X as well, and maybe add the couple extra things the RUbicon has like rock rails, etc) Still, Rubi or Mojave is a tough choice. I do think I am just good enough that the mojave is the type of driving I"d do and would be able to do the rock crawling that I would do, however, I did have a 2021 Wraangler 4Xe Rubicon,and having the extra stuff like the rean AND front lockers and sway bar disconnect give you flexibility to get out of trouble and.. I may get the RUbicon. TOugh choice.
    Ford Ranger is a nice truck too, and the FX4 and Raptor are nice, and the Tacoma is an awesome truck, but the look of the Jeep just sold me. Where is NIssan? OH, I do like the ZR2 aws well. BIt has an nice diesel (if they still have it) Ranger witht he 2.7L is a nice truck! Same MPG as 2.3L I think,a nd I had that on an F-150 and it was plenty fst and great power on the larger F-150.
    One of your complains with previous Gladiators (2020-2023) was lack of adjustability on seat. Jeep no has 12 possition or 12 way or something. Is that better than before? (suposed to be seat of Wrangler, and I was fine with Wrangler seat) So is new Ranger incorporating tech from Bronco? ZR2 Bison is good truck. I had a ZR2 that was wrecked, and after I got Jeep Wrangler. BU tI need a truck. With GM I like look, and I prefer look of the COlorado over Canyon, Nice armor on the CHevy. Good looking wheels on That truck too. about the Tacoma... I was starting to wonder if they'd ever make a new truck of it... Hybrid Tacoma would be nice addition, bout I want to see plug-in hybrid on the Gladiator (same as Wrangler 4xe?) If a PHEV and true hybrid versions provide real advantages and not wanting the newest year of the same old model. GM, Ford, and Dodge deserve high inventory and the incoming financial crisis.
