There was a reseller in Australia which was bragging about its fancy authentication process. It turned out that they did not even authenticate a lot of the items they were selling! (I can't remember the name of them, I never bought from them.)
My mouth is on the ground! I’ve heard this with the Real Real before but didn’t know it was this bad. I’ve shopped with them years ago with no problems but also bought nothing major. Their return policy alone is enough for me to go elsewhere. I’ll stick with Fashionphile and will check out Yoogi’s closet as well. Thanks once again Caleb for another informative video!

My experience has always been positive, in fact I've gotten some insane deals where I'm sure they priced items way lower than they could have. My question for you is, did you end up getting the full purchase price back? Also, was this your first time buying on the TRR? Trying to do some research to determine if I should sell my shares. Hey Wyatt! Great questions! So this was my second purchase through TRR. The first one was fairly flawless, but this one... 😬yikes. So after some back-and-forth, I did eventually get my money back even though the listing said No Refunds. If you haven't already, I highly recommend checking the news links in the description!

I'm also done with The RealReal. I received Tiffany&Co earrings that were definitely fake. Soon after, I ordered an adjustable LV bag strap and received a nonadjustable one different from the picture. I returned both of these items and was refunded, but I had to pay a return fee for each, which doesn't seem fair considering the situations. I tried emailing customer service about the fake and incorrect description and never heard back. Oh well...lesson learned
Yikes! I don't blame you! Did you check back and see if they were relisted for sale after your return? I've heard time-and-time again that they just relist the items that were deemed inauthentic back on the website for sale. One lady returned a $750 Antigona after finding out it wasn't the real deal and they listed it again for double the price!
Oh Caleb I’m so sorry you had such a terrible experience! I’ve heard many horror stories about the Real Real hence I never tried them before. Best stick with the trusted companies that you know will have a much easier returns policy. Onwards and upwards dear! 💪
Just bought a pair of Jimmy choos that were labeled incorrectly as a size 35 and then received them and they turned out to be a 37 :( so disappointing and now I’m out $100 for shipping, and handling cuz I’m in Canada 😭

They likely would have refunded you on that because it was labeled wrong. I’ve also had the return shipping refunded as well. They don’t refund the initial shipping

@@sukatushah1 Hey there! Thanks for asking! Yes, they weren’t that bad. The color of the bags wasn’t what I expected, but that is kind of the norm since online pics are taken in different lighting. I didn’t mind it. However, I did order a few other bags later on from TRR and two of them had very discolored interiors. Way more discoloration than what was portrayed online. I wasn’t happy about that but I think I can wipe them down and clean them to make them look a little better. I’ve learned to really only look for items now that are marked as Pristine or Excellent, and that have good pictures, especially when it comes to the higher priced designer bags and wallets, like YSL, Gucci, and Chanel. Stories like this get me so worried with these online consignment plattforms 🤢 I get sick by the thought how many fakes might slip through. I never bought with TRR (not even sure if they ship to Germany), but with VestiaireCollective it‘s the same, every now and then, you hear these horror stories and it really can stop one from enjoying to buy preloved 😥 If Chanel didn’t sue my advent calendar rant, you should be quite safe 😂
Exactly! And many of the horror stories I came across- the bags were proven fake by multiple sources but TRR deemed them authentic anyway and put them right back on the website for sale again. This happened on multiple occasions. Knowing that, I'm definitely not going back. And I'm glad Chanel didn't sue you- but I don't think anyone is happy with this year's advent calendar! lmao!
I’m torn. I buy a lot from trr and have had many experiences where the description is wrong, photos inaccurate, wrong item sent, poor condition etc. that being said, I have a closet full of incredible clothes and bags that were steals. In recent years, the mistake ratio is significantly higher than the past. I still find great deals but there are many more problems laced in. I’ve had just as many problems with vestier collective so I guess it just comes with the territory. Fashionfile gets 10 stars. Wonderful company from what I can tell. For the big name brands it’s the only consistent place to shop.
They were the first big luxury preloved reseller. There was a doc on CNBC YEARS ago about how they sold fakes. They dont care obviously as they have done nothing about it after all this time and going public. Do NOT give them your business!
The RealReal is a mess. They are the worst of all of the big luxury resale brands! I purchased a Gucci scarf from them (which I had a second authentication done for peace of mind) and that transaction went pretty smoothly. However, I recently sent back a vintage studded Boogie bag to TRR. I didn't end up making a video about it because my mic wasn't working and the sound quality was terrible 😔. Anyway, I sent the bag back because it was in horrendous condition and reeked of a bizarre odor. Absolutely none of that was disclosed in the listing! So sorry you had a bad experience too 😔....

So it’s like at the end of the day if it’s the Real Real or Fashion Phile, you are still taking a chance. Buy your brands at the stores directly if you have an issue! No one is perfect 😍 otherwise you can get amazing real items at the Real Real for a great deal 🎉
You're absolutely right- The Real Real definitely has some great deals and it is a risk shopping anywhere preowned. I just don't like the fact that TRR tries to pass off their copywriters as authenticators and they only authenticate a small handful of the product they carry. It's the lack of honesty and transparency that kind of pull me away from considering TRR when I shop. But to each their own! 😊 😊
I just purchased a Chanel hand bag and because of the issues I did 3rd party authenticate but I know I got lucky o I won’t be buying from them again. I haven’t used Fashionphile yet but will look into it! Thanks for the great video!
This may not qualify as a horror story but at the 870 Madison Ave (& 71rst Street) location at NYC. While I was waiting for a bus across the street from it on a Sunday like around 8am. An Asian woman walked up to their store with one of those large professional cameras (like a Nikon) with a very large professional looking lens (I'm guessing a macro lens). She proceeded to take shots of all of their bags in the windows. Then she went to neighboring stores and did the same thing. My guess was - it was Chinese knockoff bootleggers at work.
@@CalebSnell My suggestion is to post people (laying low) in their cars - on the look out during those commercial activity "dead times" - for when she (or anyone else) shows up and starts the same game.

Sorry about this bad experience! I’m hoping you get your full money back. I had my eye on a bag from them recently, but it was deceptive how they only had a cropped photo of the interior of the bag, similar to the pouch original listing. Then there’s also the fact that they just ship inside their dust bag without any other protection inside the package!

I only purchase clothing or small accessories from them that are extremely marked down. When I started purchasing from them in 2016 they were fine, but I have had many issues with them. My main one is I bought a phone case that was listed for my phone size and when I got it it was completely the wrong size and I still had to pay the return fee. Also, I know they're trying to be sustainable but my boxes come completely crushed most times from lack of packaging. Imagine having your Chanel bag just coming in one of those white dust bags in a crushed box?! And you have to still pay that 12 dollars for shipping?! Sorry, Caleb!

I’m so sorry that this happened to you.😢 Sad to say but I’m not surprised as I’ve heard quite a few negative comments over the past few years about the Real Real. People have purchased fakes as well as being sent items that don’t look like the photos and think they are getting a bag, etc. in better condition than portrayed. I definitely wouldn’t purchase from them. These preloved companies do scare me and unless I could see the piece in person I would probably be sceptical.

My item was definitly nothing like they portrayed, i was pretty shocked because I'm used to FP, Rebag and YC, and they're usually pretty spot on. Lesson learned- no more TRR for me!
I'm commenting simply because you mentioned they listed this item as "good", and I am starting to question who is judging these pieces? I ask because, I consigned some PERFECT, NEVER USED Chanel and Louis Vuitton pieces with the real real and they listed my bags as "very good", when there is "excellent" and "pristine" above "very good". This would be fine if there was anything wrong with them. Again, they were perfect and should have been listed as "pristine". I purchased a few bags from them as well right out of the boutique but they both had this awful smell and I didn't notice until I got home, I tried to return them the next day, but they claimed it was "final sale". Honestly, won't be buying or selling with them anymore.

Oh no Caleb! I am so sorry! They under delivered again! I hope they give you your refund. So sad! I also had a bad experience buying from TRR a few years ago. I thought I bought an LV Noe BB, when it turned out to be a complete super fake! I had to prove to the Real Real with two authentication letters that it was in fact a fake when I sent my item back for a refund. At least they did refund me what I paid for the item, however, they never offered to pay me back for the authentication services. It was a nightmare! Fashionphile is not always perfect, but I tell ya, as you know they are amazing at return ability 🥰
That's horrible. I'm not shocked at how they handled your return. What about the bag tipped you off that it was a super fake? And not refunding the required two authentications is just bad business. And you know how much I love Fashionphile- I have another bag arriving this week from them!

Watching other peoples videos on their BB’s, their straps were more pliable, and this one was a stiff vachetta strap! I was upset to say the least. And I’m so so excited for your new item from FP! There’s nothing worse than that feeling when you know you’ve bought a fake. That happened to me once a long time ago on eBay… not fun. 😬 so, I ended up buying one of the bags I showed you, but I went for the lighter one, it went down to the 20% mark the next day. 😆
I bought a belt labeled as size S from the real real and I got a belt that was easily at L, 42 inches long. I returned it and the whole transaction cost me 10% of my purchase or $26 of shipping charges.
I like the fact that you're not really bashing them or being negative you just being honest you have every reason to bash them I like looking at their site getting my hopes up knowing I won't buy anything it's kind of funny how they won't show the tag on a majority of their items. I trust eBay over the realreal at least most eBay sellers will take a picture of the tag. And most will even go the extra mile and take a picture of whatever you want. Much better odds if you do some research on how to authenticate it's a particular items you're looking for most of the fakes are not all that good and can easily be detected through a photo I found this video looking for someone with a good experience because I still want to buy something from these people I just can't force myself to do it

You’re paying for the brand name essentially and I’ve even seen fake versions online so I’m scared the real real could’ve sold me a fake one since I’m now learning their authentication services are lacking. @@CalebSnell I’ve finally received the item. It was an ambush lighter necklace in gold color (base is a different medal just like the real one.) TBH it feels real to me. There are some things I took note of about the piece but it’s not anything that screams fake. The jewelry I bought isn’t made with rare metals so it’s hard to identify whether it’s legit but based off of my observations from all the details comparing this item to the real brand website I’d say I got lucky and received and authentic necklace. Though I’ll probably never buy a similar item like this again because it’s too hard to authenticate without determining factors like real gold or real diamonds (since the authentic piece doesn’t use those either.)

If people would just learn how to sew, crochet and knit, they could duplicate anything on the internet. I have a folder of magazine pictures of things I want to wear. I saw an outfit made from Irish crochet. I am duplicating it. It will take time. Instead of spending $2500 for it, the total cost to make it is $60 for the yarn and $5 for the hooks. I wore the top to a party and ended up selling it for $250. It was fun to make!

CRAP!!!! I just bought Valentino Rockstuds, 😑 I wish I watched this first, with that said, make friends with your local cobbler and leather repair shops because they may be able to do some magic in repairing your bag. That way you can get your money's worth out of it.

They are a scam. Sell fake items and list items as wrong sizes. Not slightly wrong. like shoe size 6.5 vs 10. and then charged me to return the shoe after THEIR HUGE MISTAKE. Please I know it seems like a great deal and like you are finding beautiful items at a great price but it is not real and worth the headache. Please please please listen to my advice as I wish someone had told me before I spent my hard earned money. I was so excited and wanted this to work out so badly, now I sincerely hope this company goes out of business to avoid scamming others. I looked into the real real before i shopped with them. Someone returned an item cos it was inauthentic (and the real real agreed) and the Real real relisted it. Would love to see Zane in the next video 🙌
Finding this in 2024. I have been lucky with the Real Real. But have definitely heard horror stories. I really like the sunglasses on the Real Real and will not purchase anything that’s too expensive. I still prefer FASHIONPHILE for handbags.
I am cautious about buying from overseas sellers. It is very complex returning an item overseas, especially if international duty is involved. I do buy from Japan but not anywhere else. I would like to buy something from Fashionphile, but mainly to get the packaging, rather than an item itself! The Real Real is not the only reseller which does not bother to authenticate, another reason why I stick to the trustworthy Japanese sellers. One lady returned a $750 Antigona after finding out it wasn't the real deal and they listed it again for double the price!

@@sukatushah1 Hey there! Thanks for asking! Yes, they weren’t that bad. The color of the bags wasn’t what I expected, but that is kind of the norm since online pics are taken in different lighting. I didn’t mind it. However, I did order a few other bags later on from TRR and two of them had very discolored interiors. Way more discoloration than what was portrayed online. I wasn’t happy about that but I think I can wipe them down and clean them to make them look a little better. I’ve learned to really only look for items now that are marked as Pristine or Excellent, and that have good pictures, especially when it comes to the higher priced designer bags and wallets, like YSL, Gucci, and Chanel. Take care! ❤️
Stories like this get me so worried with these online consignment plattforms 🤢 I get sick by the thought how many fakes might slip through. I never bought with TRR (not even sure if they ship to Germany), but with VestiaireCollective it‘s the same, every now and then, you hear these horror stories and it really can stop one from enjoying to buy preloved 😥

Exactly! And many of the horror stories I came across- the bags were proven fake by multiple sources but TRR deemed them authentic anyway and put them right back on the website for sale again. This happened on multiple occasions. Knowing that, I'm definitely not going back. And I'm glad Chanel didn't sue you- but I don't think anyone is happy with this year's advent calendar! lmao!

I’m torn. I buy a lot from trr and have had many experiences where the description is wrong, photos inaccurate, wrong item sent, poor condition etc. that being said, I have a closet full of incredible clothes and bags that were steals. In recent years, the mistake ratio is significantly higher than the past. I still find great deals but there are many more problems laced in. I’ve had just as many problems with vestier collective so I guess it just comes with the territory. Fashionfile gets 10 stars. Wonderful company from what I can tell. For the big name brands it’s the only consistent place to shop.

They are the worst of all of the big luxury resale brands! I purchased a Gucci scarf from them (which I had a second authentication done for peace of mind) and that transaction went pretty smoothly. However, I recently sent back a vintage studded Boogie bag to TRR. I
didn't end up making a video about it because my mic wasn't working and the sound quality was terrible 😔. Anyway, I sent the bag back because it was in horrendous condition and reeked of a bizarre odor. Absolutely none of that was disclosed in the listing!

So it’s like at the end of the day if it’s the Real Real or Fashion Phile, you are still taking a chance. Buy your brands at the stores directly if you have an issue! No one is perfect 😍 otherwise you can get amazing real items at the Real Real for a great deal 🎉
You're absolutely right- The Real Real definitely has some great deals and it is a risk shopping anywhere preowned. I just don't like the fact that TRR tries to pass off their copywriters as authenticators and they only authenticate a small handful of the product they carry. It's the lack of honesty and transparency that kind of pull me away from considering TRR when I shop. But to each their own! 😊 😊

This may not qualify as a horror story but at the 870 Madison Ave (& 71rst Street) location at NYC. While I was waiting for a bus across the street from it on a Sunday like around 8am. An Asian woman walked up to their store with one of those large professional cameras (like a Nikon) with a very large professional looking lens (I'm guessing a macro lens). She proceeded to take shots of all of their bags in the windows. Then she went to neighboring stores and did the same thing. My guess was - it was Chinese knockoff bootleggers at work.

I had my eye on a bag from them recently, but it was deceptive how they only had a cropped photo of the interior of the bag, similar to the pouch original listing. Then there’s also the fact that they just ship inside their dust bag without any other protection inside the package!

I only purchase clothing or small accessories from them that are extremely marked down. When I started purchasing from them in 2016 they were fine, but I have had many issues with them. My main one is I bought a phone case that was listed for my phone size and when I got it it was completely the wrong size and I still had to pay the return fee. Also, I know they're trying to be sustainable but my boxes come completely crushed most times from lack of packaging. Imagine having your Chanel bag just coming in one of those white dust bags in a crushed box?! And you have to still pay that 12 dollars for shipping?! Sorry, Caleb!

People have purchased fakes as well as being sent items that don’t look like the photos and think they are getting a bag, etc. in better condition than portrayed. I definitely wouldn’t purchase from them. These preloved companies do scare me and unless I could see the piece in person I would probably be sceptical.

I'm commenting simply because you mentioned they listed this item as "good", and I am starting to question who is judging these pieces? I ask because, I consigned some PERFECT, NEVER USED Chanel and Louis Vuitton pieces with the real real and they listed my bags as "very good", when there is "excellent" and "pristine" above "very good". This would be fine if there was anything wrong with them. Again, they were perfect and should have been listed as "pristine". I purchased a few bags from them as well right out of the boutique but they both had this awful smell and I didn't notice until I got home, I tried to return them the next day, but they claimed it was "final sale". Honestly, won't be buying or selling with them anymore.

Oh no Caleb! I am so sorry! They under delivered again! I hope they give you your refund. So sad! I also had a bad experience buying from TRR a few years ago. I thought I bought an LV Noe BB, when it turned out to be a complete super fake! I had to prove to the Real Real with two authentication letters that it was in fact a fake when I sent my item back for a refund. At least they did refund me what I paid for the item, however, they never offered to pay me back for the authentication services. It was a nightmare! Fashionphile is not always perfect, but I tell ya, as you know they are amazing at return ability 🥰

There’s nothing worse than that feeling when you know you’ve bought a fake. That happened to me once a long time ago on eBay… not fun. 😬 so, I ended up buying one of the bags I showed you, but I went for the lighter one, it went down to the 20% mark the next day. 😆
I bought a belt labeled as size S from the real real and I got a belt that was easily at L, 42 inches long. I returned it and the whole transaction cost me 10% of my purchase or $26 of shipping charges.

I like the fact that you're not really bashing them or being negative you just being honest you have every reason to bash them I like looking at their site getting my hopes up knowing I won't buy anything it's kind of funny how they won't show the tag on a majority of their items. I trust eBay over the realreal at least most eBay sellers will take a picture of the tag. And most will even go the extra mile and take a picture of whatever you want. Much better odds if you do some research on how to authenticate it's a particular items you're looking for most of the fakes are not all that good and can easily be detected through a photo I found this video looking for someone with a good experience because I still want to buy something from these people I just can't force myself to do it

TBH it feels real to me. There are some things I took note of about the piece but it’s not anything that screams fake. The jewelry I bought isn’t made with rare metals so it’s hard to identify whether it’s legit but based off of my observations from all the details comparing this item to the real brand website I’d say I got lucky and received and authentic necklace.
Though I’ll probably never buy a similar item like this again because it’s too hard to authenticate without determining factors like real gold or real diamonds (since the authentic piece doesn’t use those either.)

If people would just learn how to sew, crochet and knit, they could duplicate anything on the internet. I have a folder of magazine pictures of things I want to wear. I saw an outfit made from Irish crochet. I am duplicating it. It will take time. Instead of spending $2500 for it, the total cost to make it is $60 for the yarn and $5 for the hooks. I wore the top to a party and ended up selling it for $250. It was fun to make!

this is all pretty horrid. however, cut to 3 years later, and i think many, MANY of the issues you've mentioned - bad photography, breadth of authentication, accuracy of listing, authentication experts, etc. - has been rectified.

They are a scam. Sell fake items and list items as wrong sizes. Not slightly wrong. like shoe size 6.5 vs 10. and then charged me to return the shoe after THEIR HUGE MISTAKE. Please I know it seems like a great deal and like you are finding beautiful items at a great price but it is not real and worth the headache. Please please please listen to my advice as I wish someone had told me before I spent my hard earned money. I was so excited and wanted this to work out so badly, now I sincerely hope this company goes out of business to avoid scamming others. Apologies to anyone who has to deal with them, including their own employees.

The Real Real is not the only reseller which does not bother to authenticate, another reason why I stick to the trustworthy Japanese sellers.
