That is not a scam. Someone bought it on sale and for whatever reason they did not want them so they gave them to sell on consignment. This is not new and I am sure this happens all the time. I b yup from The RealReal on occasion. As long as they are authentic it is what it is. The RealReal only pays 20% commish for something that inexpensive. I sell to the RealReal on occasion…even given them things brand new with tags that I never wore….some on sale some not. But they do take pics of the items, warehouse the item etc….its the price of doing business or you can do everything yourself and sell your item on Poshmark. This gal needs to get a grip.
This era is a sad one. As a fashion lover and aviation lover I’m saddened. Luxury houses are maximizing profits with reducing quality. Apparently it’s the same in the aviation industry where claims of the Boeing aircrafts being constructed poorly as well.
As a mechanical engineering student i agree, but there is a trade off with increased safety due to weight increase with increased safety which requires more fuel to fly. So proper maintenance schedule are so important. Planes are by design made to work while cracks or things begin to losen up....but this risk is only tolerated with proper maintenance...
The REAL REAL is now the TEMU of Luxury Pre-Loved sites now. They have DEFINITELY went DOWN. I purchased a Hermès piece from them that was labeled as size 48. I received it and it was size 38. With their new policy I can’t return an item that obviously wasn’t in great condition (looks like someone washed and shrunk the item) and didn’t obviously fit me. Their a NO for me now. Especially with their new crappy policies of having to pay THEM to take back an item NOT LISTED APPROPRIATELY. I also brought another item (shoe boots) previously advertised as Black and the item was Army Green. I took the shoe to my cobbler and he dyed them black. I just asked for them to refund a portion of the sale to cover the cost to dye the shoe. It took weeks of arguing. The REAL REAL is immoral as F🤬🤬🤬
I have A LOT of experience with the real real. They are the most disreputable company. I gave them an $1800 stella mccartney sweater to sell and i got $5. I gave them a brand new Off White $250 blouse to sell, which i bought and was too big for me. I didnt return it, and i got zero. Nothing. I gave them a Furla purse to sell and they lost it. They actually emailed me that they lost it by accident.
@@AdrienneMint they didn’t lose it. They probably sold it and didn’t give you the profit. I trust them NOT. It’s really despicable that they gave you $5 for an item that was $1800. Had you sold it yourself you probably could’ve commanded a couple $hundred on that piece. That whole experience definitely was a turn off from ever shopping with them again. They really don’t care about customer service. At least have a return policy and offer site credit. But for me to pay for a return plan when they fraudulently listed the item wrong takes a special type of chutzpah
@@tarreemhacaruso2687 i really appreciate your support and kind words. It made me feel better. I will never have anything to do with the real real again. I saw on their site recently that they now want you to pay a fee to be able to return something. I swear i never heard of that in my life.
I buy a lot from them and haven’t had any issues but they’re scammy in the sense they make you pay for a return coverage. That’s scammy in nature in order to return. Also I’m surprised why you couldn’t return your stuff especially the size is inaccurate?
“There is a difference between what is legal and what is moral.” I’ve been bringing up this quote with my friends all week. I find it fascinating thank you
Meg is silly. This is not a scam. People just need to pay attention. I see items listed on Fashionphile all the time - used items - that are priced at higher than new items that are available on the retailer website. Gotta pay attention because just because you buy something on a reseller site doesn't mean you can't get it brand new at a better price from the retailer itself.
When i first discovered the real real years ago, i honestly thought it was a fake website. the hugeeee inventory is a red flag, as you cannot track every item going in and out, its just not feasible. and secondly - the 'real real'? really? that name reminds me of the markets in thailand.
I love the real real, I am always on the website or at the store. ❤️ maybe u missed a season of ur fave designer or u need an emergency outfit. They have almost every thing. Thanks for always sharing my love. 🙏🏼❤️😘😘😘 Sandy
I was at NM and they had the Gucci diaper bag that I wanted to purchase, problem was that the Gucci Store had it priced at almost a 100.00 more?? The SA was very rude and he said it was “ suggested retail price” and that was the price. I told him that why would I pay a 100.00 more when I can just go across the street to the actual Gucci store and get it there. He looked at me turned up his nose and walked away, and I went across the street!
My nephew did Real Real sneaker authentication when it first started …he comes from a good honest family and is a good guy …so he wouldn’t have scammed anyone
I gave up on the Real Real. I bought and sold a few items through them which was fine. They rejected a genuine Cartier scarf and stated it was stained...it was still in the box unused. They also rejected a vintage Gucci bag I bought from Gucci in New York in the 80s. Yes, it was old but in MINT condition. They rejected it and stated that was also stained. I had no idea wtf they were talking about when they said the items were rejected for being stained. I gave up on them that moment because I figured they have no effing clue what they are doing. Stopped selling and stopped buying from them.
Not a scam. Sometimes things on the secondary market cost more than they did in the first place. Especially when the item is popular and not readily available anymore. You just have to be a smart shopper and know your prices.
I used to sell stuff at trr..their payout is terrible..they get 60% until you get a certain qouta then It goes to 40 i think..i forgot but yeah they dont pay up front. They pay once it's sold.
Fashionphile did the same exact thing with a pair of fendi sunglasses …they had a Nordstrom rack tag prominently displayed in the photo for 129.99 yet they were being sold for almost $400.
I bought a mid luxury Aspinal of London Midi Mayfair from TRR on a 50% markdown so it’s not returnable. It was listed in Excellent/Like New condition. The bag was like new with no visible signs of wear but the bag smells horrible inside when you open it. I’ve tried everything and can’t get the stink out. I have several of these bags I bought directly from Aspinal of London and they have no smell. What the heck?
What she is saying is not a scam, but what you described, pretending like the reduced price is 100 dollars when the unreduced price was already 100 dollars previously, was forbidden by the EU and now the retailers need to put the lowest price of the item in the previous month next to the current price. I still see some retailers messing with that rule but sometimes it works.
I got over the years 5 chanel jackets from TRR and all were authentic and of course altered by my Chanel boutique locally. Mind you I only get pre owned Chanel ready to wear and casually some other labels like Pucci Maxmara there but not as much lately. Therealreal is good if you do your homework and know ahead what you are buying but I did see some questionable things like those DIY chanel wallets turned into handbags by adding rings and selling as “wallets on chains” and Chanel bags and shoes in awful condition selling for thousands plus!! Is a hit or miss I always say do your homework before buying. All my Chanel Jackets were under 1k 🤭🤭
There are So many reasons I watch your channel. And I firmly believe that what is legal and what is moral are sometimes very different. Thank you for pointing that out!!!!!! NanZ
Same people who complain when they sell an item to consignment and consignment sells for more than they paid for item. Well, yes, of course, they did. Otherwise, they wouldn’t make any profit and would go bankrupt.
I bought a HERMES scarf on Real Real. I have authentic ones and the one they sent was an obvious fake. I never would shop with them again. They took it back.
Your videos are always so informative while never failing to make me laugh/smile, Dacob. I never miss one! Strange aside, but I have a local TRR near me and it always smells like BR540 in there. I think it’s all of the customers. I once called to ask about consigning a few items and was told that I should make an appointment so that a representative could come to my house and assess the items. I felt uncomfortable with that, so I declined. Regardless, for the next few days, they called and left messages trying to schedule me that appointment I had already said no to. I’m not the biggest fan of the company and am very turned off from consigning with them due to that experience. I’ve ordered a few RTW pieces from them in the past though and had a decent experience, but that’s about all I can say.
the increasing price on sale day is what gets me. if I notice them doing that I just don't buy it. i have heard FP does that. or you'll see their stock of chanel classic flaps lower right before an increase and then bam! so many on increase day or after increase.
If I buy something that was on sale, but they are worth more. Then commission them to a reseller, why wouldn't the reseller, sell it for what it's worth. It's called supply and demand. It is really no different to me than what they do with Chanel Dad Sandals or Chypre sandals
I don't buy from TRR, but I consign a bunch. As a seller/consigner, I appreciate the markup; the commission on $100 would be approx $20 (and I receive an additional 5% commission bc of my status). Also, they are always running 20% promos, which take away from our commission, so the seller made pennies on the dollar for those sneakers. PPl really do need to think about the seller of the item before complaining about price... we need to earn SOMETHING from the sale??
I've bought and sold things on The RealReal. They are legit. Sometimes fakes sneak past their authenticators but the topic of this video is not a scam. You are right that they can price things however they want and certain items are going to be priced higher than retail because they are no longer in production and there is a high demand for them. Anyway, one time I was interested in a piece of fine jewelry on The RealReal. I was scrutinizing the photos of the item and saw that it had "Thailand" stamped on the back. I knew that this particular jeweler claimed that all their pieces were made in Italy. I e-mailed TRR customer service and asked about it. They pulled the listing. I think they realized it was a fake and therefore refused to sell it. Not great that their authenticators missed that detail but at least once they were notified, they refused to sell it.
I don’t know how this place still exists after all those videos… who in his right mind will ever buy from them ever again **** unless the item is 90% less than what I know the price 😂so I’ll go with the risk
I Wentworth store in Greenwich CT last Saturday I wouldn't buy shyt buy shyt from the store staff only thing they can authenticate is from Walmart bruh the ghetto staff I gagged😮😮😮😮
Went to Greenwich CT store staff is from broke Bridgeport CT 20 mins south. My daughter who now works for Rolex asked them why aren't they speaking to the clients and not opening and closing the doors.. Bruh the professional shade was real real.😮😮😮
Not a scam at all imo. We catch things on sale, I even resell stuff for waaay over retail, bc they're sold out. We can definitely justify the markup. THAT SAID, I've sent in Ralph Lauren Collection riding boots to TRR, that I forgot to take the $9.99 Saver's (thrift store) price tag off, and TRR took photos of them that way! 😅😅 They still sold for $100 lol

This is not new. Re sale has been a big thing forever. People make their money this way. Nothing new, just new selling options.
target has lots of “fake sales”
Some retailers mark up prices before Black Friday then change them back to regular price and claim the item is on sale
They should have taken the stupid sticker off the shoes. Problem solved! 👟👟
They can't. Cuz they are not actually own by the realreap. They list items as the come from clients. It's a consignment shop.
