Minecraft: PS Vita Edition - Lost In Obscurity

- Today, I look at Minecraft: PS Vita Edition. Probably the most Minecraft for PS Vita of any Minecraft that's on PS Vita.
For anyone who thinks I sound like an AI, I use Adobe Audio Enhancer because I have a crummy mic. Saving up for a better one though.

Crazy how 4J Studios managed to make this port to a 2011 handheld and still have it be better than Bedrock edition is in 2023
bedrock is a mess of semi unoptimized gameplay imo. I grew up on tu11 and tu14 so im very much of the opinion that those versions are better than bedrock
Switch bedrock runs terrible
Never in my life I'd ever expect a popular Minecraft youtuber to ever acknowledge the existence of Minecraft psvita. Heck, some popular TH-camrs think that legacy switch edition was the first legacy console edition to be played on the go.
Enhanced edition just got released for vita by PG Team
Fr, runs better than the switch port of bedrock.
4JStudios were the REAL developers of Minecraft. They did it better than Mojang ever could
I wish 4j studios will bring back the Minecraft legacy edition and of course. Improving the java and bedrock's mechanics and the fps
Let's see how well they would've done it without Mojang.
please just shut up.
@@TheBcoolGuyobvious they wouldn’t be able to do anything since they used mojang as a base but I don’t get your point they still made a better minecraft then mojang
wym lol java is still the best version
fun fact: all of the menus and the hotbar also allowed you to use the touchscreen to navigate them. so theoretically, if you mastered that, you could probably have a decent advantage over most folks playing battle mode
"Because the chunks load in at the speed of a hot dog freezing, meeting twists and turns without crashing dickfirst into a wall is like an achievement."
why is this channel so small, these are great
as someone who spent thousands of hours as a kid on the ps3 playing Minecraft, it made me cry remembering the minigames on legacy. Those were probably some of the best moments I have ever had in gaming, spent with my friends, forming bonds with random people then crying because my parents said I couldn't friend them. In all, thanks 4J for some really cool features.
I remember me and my friend would stay up on weekends and play battle on his xbox 360, I'd usually dominate for a few rounds then screw up and he'd start to conquer.
legacy minigames try not to beat every hypixel gamemode challenge (impossible)
i still have a physical disk so it lets me play the minigames :)
something to note about the performance of the latest version is that it only got worse AFTER 1.13 was introduced (Which wasn't even supposed to be implemented). It was a fairly stable 30fps before that. Also pretty sure save transfers were removed due to servers going down; they worked by storing the worlds on a server.
ahh thats why the peformance is spotty now, I saw it before I ever even got a psvita, so I was like its modded i;'ll download it and was like huh this is kinda off
Iirc this happens in all versions and it's basically because they crammed literally too much lol. They really squeezed the hell out of the consoles
Yes I noticed that, one of the updates severely reduced performance. Very noticeable because I used to transfer saves between PS3/Vita regularly, and the performance difference between them got bigger and bigger over time.
Its still a showcase of how amazing the Vita was and how dogshit the 3ds was in comparison. The 3ds version of minecraft runs at 10 fps, at a way lower resolution, and lacks more features. Vita runs Minecraft with all of the features the big consoles had at the end of their lifecycle and with just a bit worse performance.
This is why I stopped at 1.12.2. It got so much worse afterward and I'm really happy to stay at 1.12.2.
Quick correction: The PSvita you show at 11:34 is the 'slim' revision model, which did not feature an OLED screen.
I hate the fact that this guy is still a small youtuber even though his videos are absolutely amazing
ikr
honestly reminds me of quinbobin. amazing content, small and underrated channel.
who's quinbobin
He may be small but he packs a punch
Be thankful. Once he's big he'll be a slave to the algorithm and you'd eventually unsubscribe.
I miss the console legacy edition so much. I have so many memories of the tutorial world and the mini games that bedrock edition could never get out of me
I remember I got a vita because I wanted to play little big planet. Not long after though it was announced that Minecraft was coming to it and I got it for Christmas. Being about to play Minecraft on the go was incredible. I even made a pretty nice creative world. The vita was such an underrated console
I remember when I finally got my vita one of the coolest things about it and this game was that if you had a ps3 version you got the vita version for free. Really made getting a vita worth it at the time for me since I had so many cross compatible games.
I grew up with Minecraft on the Xbox 360, seeing those hot bars, the mini games, the very tutorial world I started off on brought me back.
Amazing video, thank you.
I grew up playing this version of minecraft. I still remember finding out i could choose a texture pack and showing my brother while he was doing homework. Also remember when i was playing the tutorial world with my uncle. Such good memories
Your videos feel like a mix of modern formats with the humor of AVGN and his many clones back in the day. And the juxtipostion between the two just hits so good dude.
You put it exactly how I tell it when I recommend this channel to other people. He really does feel like older AVGN videos and it's awesome, I can't get enough of it.
"modern format"
The format: *generic videogame videos*
@@pafoneto1275 Modern formats for videogame videos.
@@TheWrathAbove
Modern format for videogames videos: *generic videogame video*
I mean, what are you pretending to say? This is just a generic video, nothing "new" about this format or "modern". You are talking as if this guy is making a car while other people are driving Wagons. Stop exaggerating, it is ok, you like his videos, you don't need to lie about it.
@@pafoneto1275 I'm not sure why you're *this* worked up about this, lol.
I used to rearrange the control scheme in my settings so I could use the square and circle buttons to move through my items instead of the d-pad. It was actually game-changing, and gave you the ability to play more like normal.
i thought they made it so you can use the back touch pad
I still play this version of this game to this day . Love it!
Hey man any chance you could help me get a trophy?
Same there’s just something about that’s fun
Same here! I need to get my battery replaced though, holds a charge like a sieve holds water
@@elimcgamerguytell me about it man. My PSVita takes around 6 hours to charge just for it to die about an hour and thirty minutes later 😂😂
@@yoimadankboi9096yeah, battery problems were a common thing. I'm not sure if playing with your ps Vita while it's charging messes it up.
Now Minecraft Enhanced, a modified and improved version of Minecraft for the Ps Vita has released and coupled with some other Homebrew tools to make the FPS more stable, this Portable version of the game is better than ever.
Really? I've never heard of that actually. Thats awesome though
@@Bearman3600 Enhanced edition also updates the game to the aquatic update, and from seeing gameplay it seems to run just as fast, possibly faster than vanilla vita edition
@@RedCLRenhanced doesn't _enhance_ performance it's the same performance as 1.83
I loved the Vita version, I played it with my friend in School using ad hoc, and we could transfer the saves back and forth to the PS3, so when we were home we'd play on PS3 and Vita when elsewhere. It was really cool.
Minecraft on the Vita actually used to run decently back years ago, but at some point there was an update where the performance had a heavy drop
If you get Minecraft digitally from the Vita store, it gives you the option of whether or not to download the update. I purposefully don’t have it so it runs better lol
Handheld Minecraft is unique. I had an Xperia Play, the Sony phone with built in controller and being able to play anywhere was nice
I actually lucked out with the Vita Edition. I got PS3 Edition used from GameStop a couple weeks ago, noticed the download code, and kinda immediately wrote it off as "it won't work".
After watching your video, I decided to try it because [intrusive thoughts], and somehow it worked! So now I have PS Vita Edition. ;u;
Back when i got my psvita when they were new, i got minecraft for it aswell and it came with a ps3 code. I still have it installed on ps3 but never played it
i had the reverse experience, got my hands on the vita version and it came with a ps3 code
@@AndyStriker13LP I live in the US, sadly we didn't get a physical release. (I ended up importing one from Britishlandia for the collection anyway.)
This version was my childhood and how I met a friend that we sadly dont speak to much today
I love it in every sense, I love how the colors are so warm and washed out, it just felt so simple and perfect
This game also used to be in my childhood, I had multiple friends that I don’t really speak to any more either, all I know is we had a fun time back then.
I really like the quality of your videos, they make me laugh out loud. I was surprised to see you dont have more subs, and you definitely deserve more! Keep up the good work, and thank you for the entertainment!
I love your humor and the video overall was great! I remember back in my elementary school a boy had a Vita with Minecraft! He was playing in the tutorial world, and if I recall correctly he was in the area with the lone tree that was near the big Minecraft logo. Ever since I saw that, I wanted a Vita JUST to play Minecraft. Looking back on it, I think I was justified to have that thought. 10/10 video
Underrated content creator, keep up the great work ✨
Dude I instantly subscribed. Your humour is so good.
I used to have Minecraft on my psvita slim it was that game built me as a child and I still love the game today. This video just gave me a plethora of experiences and memories so TYSM
Your a amazing TH-camr I remember playing on the ps vita a long time ago it’s fun and nice
No, the Switch is absolutely an handheld console that can also be plugged to a TV. That’s because the actual handheld itself contains all the hardware, and the dock is literally just a piece of plastic with a power cable and an HDMI port.
NO... just no. You completely missed the point of that statement.
I'm not gonna lie to you, this video led me to get a PS Vita, and while I've played quite a bit of Minecraft on it, it led me to play a ton of games I never even considered playing, and eventually led to me finding one my new favorite games, Persona 4. Seriously never expected to find all these amazing games when I got this thing, it's seriously one of my favorite handhelds to play on and I've found myself unable to put it down as of late. Thanks for introducing me to this console !!
Bro this was such a trip down memory lane, like my god i remember playing this allot because i didn't buy a ps3 or 4, and i remember all the little moments here and there, i especially loved the Minigames and remember the hunger games styled one foundly, i loved the sand/pirate ship map and the elytra and snow tile minigames
Your videos are fun to watch and good quality so I’m surprised your small
What insane timing i J U S T watched your video on Obscure Minecraft Versions! Very good stuff my man cant wait to see more!
big things are sure to come king. another great video, keep it up : )
No they won't
😳
@@Bearman3600 I'm sorry I didn't relize you made the tomodachi life video I watched that one and liked it
Lol no it's okay glad you liked it ✌️
Genuinely my favorite way to play Minecraft, the experience is just too nostalgic and it holds a special place in my heart.
Your videos are made really well, I can't believe you're a small TH-camr
I used to love Minecraft PS Vita. My PS Vita was my main handheld game console for a long time, and being able to play Minecraft anywhere was amazing. I only have good memories from it.
Good video Bro, Just subscribed
My Minecraft childhood was on this version ive managed to get my main world on to my steamdeck and still find my self playing it
What helped during the battleminigames on a Vita console was the touch screen allowing you to quickly access items much like pocket edition
i remember looking super forward to this coming out and wanting to get a whole vita just to play it
I remember playing hours of this edition back in 2014, waiting for the updates for console edition and playing right after updating, i loved playing online with friends while talking to them on the party app, i really never enjoyed minecraft the same after i stopped playing this edition
I love this version and have so many good memories with it.
I played it so much and then lost my world and i haven't been the same since
i remember having a group of friends on psn and playing this for hours i remeber playing this at night on a school night being told to get off the ps3 only to upload a save of it and take it to ps vita gosh time has changed i still keep my vita in purse still in grate condition as well
1:11 don't do that, dont make me feel old like that 🥲
Ad hoc mode uses the PS Vita's own wifi to host the network, rather than using LAN, so it'll work out and about with no modem. I believe LAN support existed in some PSV games, labelled as "local play".
Extremely cool video, nonetheless. Absolutely neat to see someone even TOUCH Vita Ad Hoc!
Though one other thing I'll say is that OLEDs aren't inherently superior; although generally true, modern LCD LED panels can achieve brighter whites because their light emitting components are much larger (on a an OLED, they're always rhe same size as a pixel.)
Minecraft Psvita was my childhood thats where i properly started playing minecraft i had played on the PC and my friends Xbox but this is where i played much more of it
Really chill video! I can only agree with the people praising you.
For some constructive feedback; I feel like you could make your audio slightly louder and maybe play around with the tempo of your voice (like slightly longer pauses sometimes)
That moment where us Minecraft console players found out we were getting hunger games is a core gaming memory for me
I remember playing mini games a few years ago and getting good enough to use the d-pad with my upper thumb and use my lower thumb to move the left analog stick
They removed the save transfer because Playstation descontinued the feature of transfering files from your VITA to a PS3. Any kind of file.
then why does it still work if you hack the param files to appear as a newer version
I can't even express how bliss it is when I play Java Minecraft on my Wii U, i feel so cozy, a really weird feeling of being alone in a decaying world.
Great video, love the legacy console editions🙂👍
Man this is wild to me, I started playing minecraft in its early stages, around the time Nether was added, and actually bought the game a bit before Wolves got added and so I spent most of my young age playing minecraft on the best version, I never knew the console versions got official minigames :D
I love this version still. Play it with my college friends at dorms
I played the HELL a outta this version. I was so stoked when it was released.
bro i remember playing this version on quarentine while listening to sewerslvt, good times
fuckin love your videos, excited for you to be on everyone's recommended :P
I'd give anything for these days again. The transfer feature got so many modded worlds over to my ps4 and the memories i made with people won't go away anytime soon.
I've spent infinite time on the PS VITA Edition until I stopped playing in 2018 since my screen broke. I finally fixed the screen though last year and I've had a blast revisiting worlds. I left them all untouched though and created a new world which I still play regularly
Lots of fond memories playing MC on the PSVita
It’s so cool , I have it and it’s awesome. I was actually able to join a game online a couple months ago
Man I still miss my OG Vita. 3G OLED model. Kept it for years until I had to sell it because I could not afford groceries one month.. I still miss that thing dearly.
This was the second edition I played after Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
wow.. this brings back a LOT of memories
This is my favorite version!!! I still play it.
I love this edition and i started playing it in 2020, it has touch screen support to make it for the lack of buttons (take that switch edition) and you can even play music while playing this game, it might have smaller maps that the 3ds edition, but runs 100 times better.
I used to play this! very nostalgic
This video made me found out half the kids never used the activation code that comes with physical copy
Tried the code on my random used copy I got a year ago and it worked, great, haha
13:31 i managed to modify the last update for both the psvita and ps3 that adds the transfer worlds feature back in a effort to bring back my childhood world. but it didnt work due to ps3 and vita requiring to connect to external servers that have since been taken down
i remember the ios minecraft. no survival and a very barebone creative map. it was the worst
before it came to xbox and all the copy cats were there (total miner being the best after castle miner z).
it was crazy to see the minecraft era. i miss it sm
I remember playing this version a ton when I was little
I remember playing this version cuz my uncle had a PSP so I used to play this and I also used to play killzone long car trips. I miss this version of the game
used to play this so much back in 2016. this game revived the vita communnity for years until the switch came around
Minecraft was the first game I played ever. I dad gave me his xbox 360 and I chose what 3 year old me saw Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition. Going back now, I wish I'd cherish old minecraft then and what the game gave me. Without minecraft, I probably wouldn't play anything. Thanks Minecraft, for making the best memories ever. :)
4j studios got to cook slightly longer on the PS4 and managed to make village and pillage so it's the best console to play legacy console on
I played PS3 edition and the big problem was having a really small map in Minecraft standards. After a while you find the end of the world. At first I didn't know why this was but then I found out legacy console versions had a smaller, limited map. Was really sad after that.
This was my obsession back in the day for a solid 7 months
Ngl, I almost cried on the bus watching him roam the tutorial world, I remember my first time playing Minecraft on my ps3 roaming this tutorial world and I wish I could go back
Dude how is your Channel so small your videos are so good your content is amazing Keep it up!!!
I’m gonna be honest I’m watching this video while playing Minecraft PS vita
edition
"Hell on earth. Death to Notch." Got me lol
This video is incredible
I played the PSVita version for HOURS, I remember playing the LBP crossover endlessly, it's so nostalgic for me.
I loved this game as a kid on the vita. I always played on the demo. Good times
I love this version of Minecraft. Prior to its updates, it was the only version of Minecraft that plays Aria Math in Survival Mode, which makes me come back to this version more than others.
Man I remember playing Minecraft when it first dropped on consoles was big hype back then and I just remember the memories with friends from school after then the updates got even more better but now there’s way to much content which is good but I’ll give it a miss nowadays
I had a friend who purchased a vita just to play this and use the save transfer, and not even a week after he got it the final update was pushed out that removed the feature
Thank you for the video, bro. You're pretty funny
I was REALLY impressed with this back in the day. It WAS a portable version of the full Xbox 360/PS3 version of the game.
yesss i used to play on my vita all the time. the only time i noticed it struggling was when i made big noteblock builds or i built a bunch of statues and they wouldent all load at once towards the top other than that more than playable i also dident remember any frame drops
Coincidentally i just plyed Minecraft on my PS Vita a few days ago for nostalgia. The biggest issue i had with it was the delay between placing blocks and the blocks actually showing up then lol
I remember playing this all the time, whew good times
glide is amazing. theres a java port out there but the boost panels dont work, it gives you fireworks instead
I highly agree on your sentiment about the switch not being a handheld console, as handheld games were always made with not only their spec limitations but also portability in mind, because in all the 5 years of owning a switch I consistently used it on tabletop mode with friends, but id never consistently play it as a handheld and even when i tried to use its never left the impression to me as one even sitting completely unused on some trips. Long live homebrew on old handhelds i guess
Was that a baby zombie riding a wolf?
Just wanna add that the Switch Lite does kinda fit the description you gave. It's a lot smaller and is only usable as a handheld. It doesn't have detachable controllers and is just one, smaller, solid unit.
It's a little bigger than the Vita and not quite as pocketable, but I wouldn't and didn't 'pocket' the Vita either since I didn't wanna damage the analogue sticks. I've loved the Switch Lite so much I sold my Vita finally and that thing was beloved to me.
I hope someone is out there, putting it to good use.
I actually considered that and something odd is that the original Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition (console legacy) doesn't support cloud saves with NSO, but the bedrock Edition on switch does.
Since console legacy on switch was discontinued before the Switch Lite came out, you'd have to have bought the console legacy while it was available on the Original model switch, then bought a Switch Lite, and then sign in with the account you bought it with and even then, your saves would be stuck on the Switch Lite.
My childhood... This version is a decade old this year
I feel like ps vita glide should be a competitive meta within its self
