A bit emotional for me..... I was in Japan several times in 1980 when I was a merchant sailor. I was told there was a legend about mount Fuji. Its peak is very often covered in the clouds. Legend says that when you can sea the top on your last visit, it menas you will return at some moment in your life. I think I've been there about ten times. But the peak was only visible fore me at one occasion: that was at my last visit. Now I am 63. If this legend is true, I must return to Japan again.....
Marianne, Chris!! There are many apps that are camera or live camera translators. Just point and take photo or point camera and it will automatically translate ANY language to English. Plus verbal or text translation. 😉
Oh, you will LOVE Japan so much. The cleanliness, politeness, the high-tech, traditions, the gorgeous naturescapes. The impeccable roads! The camping sites, clean water, pristine public restrooms, and OMG the highway rest stops too. So excited for you!
25:39 This is a sauce used for Okonomiyaki. Okonomiyaki is a very popular food in Japan, which is similar to a pancake made with flour, vegetables, and meat.
I don't know how recent this video is, so you might already know this. From experience having family living in Japan for 10 years. In order to save you time and money, do shop at 7 11, Lawsons and Family Mart. They have fresh food ready to eat or heat up. All of the food is delicious! Family Mart fried chicken is amazing. They will also heat up your food while you wait. And the drinks at the vending machines are also very good. Cold Lemonade! Also, take your own shopping bags when you buy anything. Can't wait to see your adventures.
OMG Marianne you are so brave driving out into completely foreign city traffic like that! Loved the shots of English van Trudy reflected in Japanese shop windows, surreal! 😊🐶🐶
Wow, I am impressed with Japan so far, I was there only one time on a business trip, so there was no time for sight-seeing for me. I love how clean everything is. And the people seem eager to help you both. I am happy you made it! best wishes on a successful JAPAN tour!
Really enjoying these Japan videos! Memories of being there 5 years ago-you noticed the same things we did-vending machines, pictures on menus, no English anywhere (but extremely friendly and helpful people everywhere). Have loads of fun!
Now THIS is the part of your journey I’ve looked forward to. For as long as I can remember I’ve been obsessed by Japan and it’s culture, absolutely adore how utterly civilized it is. So looking forward to this part !! And what about Trudie !!! Started like a champ !! I knew she would ! - but let me first say, you guys are an example of just throwing yourself into something and making it work !! I swear each year we age we become less and less brave but you’re showing it can be done !!
The little cars are called Kei cars, the Kei stands for light automobile. Think they have less taxation or something, and have a engine limit of 660cc or something. A few were imported to the UK, the Dihatsu Copen, and the Nissan Figaro, and Suzuki Cappuccino being the most common. The Suzuki Carrier was a small van, and I think that might have been our Bedford Rascal van. Now next project fir you is to make a camper out of one of them, it's been done, and travel the world !😂 Have to make sure it had a sun roof fitted, so Chris could poke his head out of the top.
This series is the first Japan based series I have watched since returning from there in April '23, it makes me miss it so much. Even though it was my 3rd trip in 20 years I hope to return again in the future as it it an amazing place. These vlogs are great!!
Anyone wanting to retire in total peace and serenity should live in Japan. Period. The Safest, cleanest, most inviting and wonderful place on Earth period. Best weather, best roads, no violence, no filth no crime. Thank you two so much for sharing this Japan trip. It makes me almost cry it's so wonderful. I commented before on another of your Japan trip vids that I rode my 64 GT200 Lambretta converted to electric years ago across Japan it were incredible and I lived in Japan for ten years from 90-2000 the single greatest time of my life
Congratulations! I am so happy everything worked out so well for you two!!! You're amazing people and you deserve to have an amazing life enjoy your Japan adventures! As always thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us!!!! Love living vicariously through you!❤❤❤❤❤
When I thought about writing, "I recommend a store called Nitori(ニトリ)," I was surprised to find that you had chosen that store!Good to buy cheap! Please come and visit Yokohama slowly next time.😊From one Yokohama citizen.
I’m sooo happy to see Trudy and that she’s perfectly fine ! I can’t wait to visit Japan with you, it really seems sooo different … I hope you are having a wonderful day. 😊
I would be afraid of getting lost, not knowing the language. You are doing so great!! You are off to a great start. Gas, food, a place to sleep, a bathroom, great job!!
You did it!! As we knew you would. The three amigos are reunited and we are all ready and waiting for the next of this adventure! Love you! Ps: I can’t get over Mariannes posh telephone voice in the past couple of episodes and her polite laugh. Definitely not the dirty raucous laugh we all know and love 😂😂
Welcome to Japan! I am so happy that your van arrived here. Now your jorney started in Japan. If you are stopping at Osaka, I will be very happy to guide you in Osaka and Kyoto. Have a safety travel.
The little vehicles are K-cars. It's a vehicle standard for smaller vehicles, engine size/weight/dimensions all specified. Lower taxes and insurance. There are roads in the cities where normal vehicles are not allowed, only K-cars. I have even seen a K-car camper van online.
So nice. Glad for your to have Trudy back. I've been told that my ancestors in Kentucky/Missouri were business life acquainted with the parents of Samuel Clemmons (Mark Twain) so I especially liked that Mark Twain quote. Yes, dreams do come true as you have said! Happy day and the gent who assisted you getting through the port Japanese Customs and Port Authority was very helpful!
23:28 It's called Katsuya. On the building sign saying Katsudon meal for 520 yen. Basically panko breaded pork cutlet, usually served with rice or cabbage with katsudon sauce.
I did! that is great !! We have started watching Grace - but will be watching the Bay as soon as the next series comes out - we love it !! I think a trip to Morecombe when we get back might be in order !!
So happy with traveling in Japan, but what amazes me is the band the communication the trust and the love and the patient that you too have for each other on this new journey . I would be so scared to do this by myself but it’s one of my dreams to be able to do a cross country trip with my lte husband but we never was able to do it cancer got the best of him so I am going to try to do it before it is my time for the both of us . We😢 my friends this is epic much love in your new adventures in Japan stay safe and healthy and definitely blessed🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾♥️♥️
Thanks Carmen - we hope you are able to go on your happy travels - but we are delighted that you are joining us on these new adventures to Japan !! woo hoo xxx
Fuji-san is normally very shy. You've been very lucky. Love Japan. Only problem with Trudy is you won't be taking a bullet train, they are awesome (slightly less awesome than Trudy though)
There she is!!! 🤗🤗🤗 After all the faff and rigamarole getting out of the US, what a joy to pick her up with relatively little hassle. Welcome home you guys! Loved the shot of Trudy's reflection gleaming in the shop windows. 😍 And what a scene to finish the video!!! 😱🤯 ❤️❤️😎👍xx
Thanks Mr and Mrs P and family - we are home indeed !! Yep the reflection of Trudy in the window is one I would love to do in every country !! What a blast we are having and if you have watched the Live chat on the patreon Face book page ... we had an earthquake during the live chat !!! What ?!?!?! Sending love from the wobblebox LOL xx
Enjoy your time in Japan. It really is a fascinating country. I'm fortunate in that I have visited many times over a 20+ year period, both on business and as a tourist and I can assure you that you're in for a great trip. Your first park up looks like it's close to where my best mate lives!
Me and my wife having fun watching your videos..... if you are still in Japan check out thrift shop 2nd street book off book off hard off .... that's 2nd hand store for your camping stuff and things you need it's all there. We are from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Awwh thank you !! We have some stuff to drop off at the thrift shop so we plan a visit !! We met a fabulous family yesterday from the Philippines ... so we have promised to visit after the around the world trip !! Thank you 🌺
Very happy to see the scenery of Mt.Fuji from Oishi Park (大石公園) by lake kawaguchi, I could not see because of the bad weather during my visit there. Thank you very much for sharing the video, please enjoy your travel here!
I can feel your excitement from here. You inspire me to follow my dreams and ship a camper from Australia back to Britain and then do Europe. Dreams can come true.
Was watching you collect Trudy from the port last night, just as Marianne turned the key the power went out!!! Bet you didn’t think starting your van in Japan could black out a part of Nortern Scotland 😂… Enjoy Japan 🇯🇵 all the best from Scotland 🏴👋
Could sit and watch a POV of u guys going round Japan all day everyday it’s my dream to move there someday what an amazing country it is and for the most part everyone seems really friendly the streets are clean and and everyone has respect for everyone around them and also there belongings which is not something you often see especially in the UK but also many other places. Really jealous you guys have been on such an awesome journey and seeing Mount Fuji 🗻 😮 what a dream!! Hope you guys all the best for the future miles ahead and I bet you guys will be happy to get home to your comfy bed. although it would be sad to see the adventures come to an end and I’ve only been watching since today but I’ve tried to watch as many videos as I can to catch up 😂
Doing pretty good so far Chris and Maryanne, Japan is totally a new experience besides the fact that you drive on the on right side, Great view of Mount Fuji, you lucked out parking there.
Those views of Mt Fuji are gorgeous. I was told to look out the window of the Shinkansen train and i couldnt even see it we were moving so fast. Win for slow travel. Well done Marianne and Chris.
Can’t wait to see the adventures in Japan. So excited for you. Would love a jackery, but the are so out of my price range, but I bet very useful on your journey

You will love every minute in Japan. One of the safest, clean and organised countries I have ever visited.
Given what’s going on in the States, it makes me want to move there !
@@MrKevinbeaglethat is so true. We are disgusting trashy slobs here that dont obey laws. Well, I am not that way just as you arent.

No English anywhere? It seems like it’s filled with English texts everywhere though.
I spent a couple weeks in Tokyo on business and found the people very friendly and helpful. Seems you have experienced the same.👍❤
Welcome to our country, Japan.

7 Eleven in Japan is nothing like America's 7 Eleven. There is a you tuber that sorts through a lot of the foods and why it is a great place to go.
Can’t wait to visit Japan one day. All my favourite travel vloggers have been recently and that’s sold it to me 100%.
There is no tax on mini cars in Japan. That's why there are so many in Japan.
This series is the first Japan based series I have watched since returning from there in April '23, it makes me miss it so much.
Even though it was my 3rd trip in 20 years I hope to return again in the future as it it an amazing place.

OMG, Your Mount Fuji spot was amazing. Am going to Japan this year and just hoping to get a clear day to see it while am there.
Just a little heads up, careful not to talk in the hotel hallway in any country but especially in Japan. Love your show!
Japan has the same road system as UK - Driving on the Left with Right Hand drive vehicles.
The UK and Japan are the same right-hand drive, left-hand traffic.
Thanks for the video, we ate so happy for you that you got the van back. We looking forward to see more of you in Japan!!!
