This issue is easy to resolve. Have your stay in the US extended and have your insurance extended. Other people do it all the time. Do some videos of Beautiful California since you have not done that yet. Ship in 5 weeks. Problem solved. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Oh Chris and Marianne that was a spot of hard luck the door packing in on use hope you somehow manage to chill out and hopefully everything just comes together have a stuff drink when Trudie drives on that ship , as for me I can’t wait for the update next week thank you guys for sharing the good the bad and the ugly side of it all
Hola👋 from New Mexico...Wow😮 Oh my... I'm so sorry to hear this...but there may be a silver lining in here we don't know about. Angels all around you and Trudy.🙏💖🤗
So you're coming to Malaysia. I am keeping my finger crossed to be able to meet up with Trudy and both of you. I am 30 minutes away from the Thai border.
Gosh gosh gosh... I wonder could it have been shipped easier from Mexico. I sympathise totally with you about the door mechanism. The motor has gone on my old 2002 focus estate driver's door and it doesn't open. ...and both front window motors are gone too. I've been climbing over the gear stick to get in and out for weeks ...and they are finally going to be fixed tomorrow... All going according to plan that is... as you know too well though ...the best laid plans ..and all that etc etc 🥴
Wow! Sorry you had such trouble with all. Hope you get it straightened out and can ship the next month. Prayers for you and "Trudy". Glad you have wonderful family there. I am surprised the entire locking system for the doors is not working. I had only thought it to be the passenger door and yes, I would have bolted it closed and used the driver's side and the slider to enter and exit and have parts delivered to Japan later and have the fix done there in Japan. Oh well, I know you will figure it all out and do what you can.
Hi Linda - yep for some reason it would not engage the central locking - even if we bolted the door from the inside ?! but hey ho - she has to be in full working order to enter a new country or it can complicate things 🚐🌺

While a delay in shipping Trudy to Japan is not what is desired, there's always a reason behind the scenes for a delay or a detour. You may learn why or you may never know, but know one thing you are guided in your steps on this journey by someone who loves you more then you can fathom and desires your journey to be fruitful and blessed beyond your expectations.
I have always found that things seldom just fall into place. Even with all your planning( and you two are meticulous), it didn't work out. You held it together so well, I was flustered just watching what you were going through. Now, if all the shipping ports were that meticulous with shipping containers and such, they wouldn't have a problem with drugs being smuggled in.
Very stressful video. I cringed several times, starting by volunteering too much information at the border in San Diego. Only answer questions the US border/customs ask, nothing less, nothing more. As far as Trudy breakdown, the more a van breaks down the more it will break down. Part and parcel of vintage vehicles, especially when driven on rough dirt roads that they were not designed for in Europe. You'll find a way, I like the "shipping from Mexico or Canada" idea. Another idea, why don't you drive down all the way to El Salvador. You will get things done there, Salvadorans will make it happen. All the best.
What a stressful thing !!!! 😖😖 I don’t know anything about all this, but maybe the dates changed because ships can arrive early or late depending to the weather and storms at sea while traveling …
Well, if you're going to quote RWS... I'll add "There's a race of men that don't fit in, A race that can't sit still; So they break the hearts of kith and kin, And they roam the world at will. They range the field and rove the flood, And they climb the mountain's crest; Their's is the curse of the gypsy blood, And they don't know how to rest." Safe travels ❤
@@TREADtheglobe , WoW!!! I might see you by coinvidence , and on that season , Our tropical country might not be too hot for you. Anyway its also favorite destination of travel vloggers . 😊
Oh my goodness! You guys had to jump through so many hoops and to have the shipping company move up the drop off date on such short notice. Incredibly frustrating.
Sorry to hear about this. At the moment, it seems a bit like going down on a rollercoaster, whilst installing the track ahead as you go. Hopefully your schedule will get back on track.
I have been reluctant to write this, but Fiat Ducatos are also manufactured and sold in the USA under the name of Ram Promaster. Perhaps they started producing them after the year of build of your van, but perhaps they have (many) parts in common. I never heard you mention this, hence this hint.
Hope all goes well with the repairs. I don't know if you were supposed to meet up with someone in Japan or if you were going it alone. Either way, I trust that you will make it there soon, and just make the most of the time you remain in North America, whichever country you are in.
I'm having almost the same problem trying to get my resident card for Mexico. Every few days they come up with some other paperwork that they need that is usually a government paper, and try to get that in a couple of days! Frustration and expense. Makes me want to curl up and hide under the covers. I don't know why governments and corporations have to make things so, so difficult...and it's not as if they profit off all the delay.
Maybe fit a padlock on the door for shipping. Then get the parts sent to Japan and fix it properly there. You will have some new holes to fill from the padlock but least you be shipped
Why is it that everything that can go wrong, will, and always at the worst possible moment? The ex-pawers broke down over and over on their trip home from England to Andalusia, SPAIN and had to wait for weeks for the parts to ship. Meantime they were stuck on the side of the road in VINNIE (their 30-ish yr old van). Such a bummer. Too bad you don't have a Japanese van. Hugs...good luck with all this.
Awwh thanks Bev - yep it certainly tests your sense of humour and adventure - but the challenge goes on and we believe it is important to show it is not always good on the road 😉🌺
Oh no! Can't imagine how stressful that must have been. Cataloguing and photographing everything in time would be a big enough task in itself without trying to get spare parts and meet all the deadlines. If you need to be out of the US does that mean you also have to be out of Mexico and Canada too? I thought the US visas had a clause that you can't just pop over to neighbouring countries.
Hi - yep thanks - it was a big old job doing the filming, editing etc - I have no idea how Chris does it !!! As we came into US with Trudy we had only permission for HER for one year - we were told that we could not extend it but that we would have to drive to Guatemala and then reapply - our friends who shipped to Canada did not have this imposed on their vehicles - so next time we would ship to Canada.
@@TREADtheglobe Oh, I was talking about photographing the contents of your van, and getting the parts and all of the paperwork done for the move. I hadn't even thought about creating a video around the whole experience as well! So much to do in so little time. It makes us stressed just thinking about it! We continue to be impressed by how much you guys manage to accomplish each week! How odd that your vehicle can't stay in the country for as long as you can. Fingers crossed that next time is a lot smoother for you both!
it reminds me of the story of a Dutch traveler just like you who sent his van from Pakistan to Argentina without any problem in the middle of the covid pandemic. another story, that of a French couple who shipped their SUV from Pakistan (still) to Dubai. and the most recent is that of a Pakistani who shipped a motorbike from Dubai to India. In any case, it went without major problems. these people are all full-time travelers like you. apparently you would have had fewer problems traveling without a van in the U.s.a. .
Nothing ever goes as expected when dealing with the US federal government. Anyway, Home Depot and Lowes usually has moving boxes cheap. So if you need any more, consider that. You also might want to check a Fiat dealer. Couldn't hurt. But you'll probably pay more. The young man has a awesome set of tools. I'll bet his dad is a TV repairman.
I love you both, but I'd never miss a boat for a door lock. I'm afraid, I'm of the "overpower" school of problem solving. First thing that came to my mind was to just Tack Weld the door shut and deal with it in Japan. I suppose that thinking is why I'm still in Ohio.
Hi Art Stacy - unfortunately if the vehicle can not be locked then they will not accept it ! As the door is not engaging even manually trying to lock it ... it just won't !! But we overcome the problems as carry on !! 😉
I love Ricardo - he’s such a gentle kind man!
We love him too !!
What a palava!! Problem solving in action! You'll be ready for anything after this.
You are not wrong Owen - we did not know how resilient we were !! 🙌🌺

@@TREADtheglobe oh, sure, it would be silly. No one would believe all was perfect. Hope all goes well.
Oh snap ! i wish i was there to fix the door. There is a manual release for the faulty mechanism you could have shut the door.
Who knew it would be so stressful to ship a vehicle 😅
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
it reminds me of the story of a Dutch traveler just like you who sent his van from Pakistan to Argentina without any problem in the middle of the covid pandemic.
another story, that of a French couple who shipped their SUV from Pakistan (still) to Dubai.
and the most recent is that of a Pakistani who shipped a motorbike from Dubai to India.
In any case, it went without major problems.
these people are all full-time travelers like you.
apparently you would have had fewer problems traveling without a van in the U.s.a. .
Eek feel your nightmare. X

-Which countries ?
-Tokyo 🤣😂🤣
Nothing ever goes as expected when dealing with the US federal government.
Anyway, Home Depot and Lowes usually has moving boxes cheap. So if you need any more, consider that.
You also might want to check a Fiat dealer. Couldn't hurt. But you'll probably pay more.
The young man has a awesome set of tools. I'll bet his dad is a TV repairman.
Thanks for the tip
Oof! I guess lesson learned is add more buffer!
🙏here's to your next step.
👍👋🏻
I love you both, but I'd never miss a boat for a door lock. I'm afraid, I'm of the "overpower" school of problem solving. First thing that came to my mind was to just Tack Weld the door shut and deal with it in Japan. I suppose that thinking is why I'm still in Ohio.
Hi Art Stacy - unfortunately if the vehicle can not be locked then they will not accept it ! As the door is not engaging even manually trying to lock it ... it just won't !! But we overcome the problems as carry on !! 😉
I live in Incheon, South Korea.
I thought every shipping was supposed to be "no personal items" but overlanders just ignore it - rule is more about import/exporting vehicles.
❤❤
I’m puzzled that a “certified Copy” (by way of a solicitor or JP) wasn’t just as good as the original Trudy papers!
