Thank you all this would not be where it's at without you. Hopefully sometime soon I can dedicate more time to this.
Started playing Castlevania 1 and got to after boss 2 thanks to you video. They motivated me to try it again. I haven't followed the video to the letter, but still doing good.
For those that are curious, the japanese version contains animations to the palmtrees, snow falling in the snow level and an intro, scenes between levels, and a ending that explains the whole story, that and a secret message after the credits that can be accesed by pressing start and select after the final boss and during the credits (the rom was fully translated to english btw).
It goes by the name Gryzor for some reason. Also the original arcade version has the quirk of limited continues regardless of quarters, so you know, not that hard

I like how I found this game really hard, especially compared to the other ones. I grew up with NES Super C, and after speedrunning it beat the arcade Contra and then this.
Probably the first time yeah it’s hard cause the enemies spawning from thin air, and the one hit system but you can recover in some stages but it’s awesome to be good enough to blaze through with spread gun
10:14 нещодавно якраз згадував цей фільм, а він і тут) треба передивитися його ще раз) Чудове відео, багато прикольних моментів. Єдиний раз коли проходив Contra то лише з іншим гравцем, тепер спробую сам

To be fair, even back in the day I thought Contra bosses were the easy part. And the last level is pretty easy, I once died after the last S, and still finished the final boss with regular pea-shooter, no problem. I did not know about the Konami code. Took me a few months to get good enough to finish it, though
Yeah it’s very rewarding when I managed to do it the first time. Even if you die it’s pretty recoverable but always fun because in a game like contra if you don’t die, you basically beat the game hitless which is sick
Another great video to see while I'm eating the breakfast, amazing 😎 I love this game. Did you know that in Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 the Main Menu BGM is random and sometimes the track can be the theme of the second level of Contra? That's cool
I actually didn’t know that so thanks for sharing! And I’m happy you had something to watch eating and as always a pleasure to have your comments thanks as always!
i wanna see that actually. like a brief parody where IGYB is sucked into videoland and speedruns killing mother brain once and for all within 5 minutes
Thank you I appreciate the kind words! Unfortunately I haven’t gotten around to contra 3 and when I do cover it, you know I’m gonna do the highest difficulty no question!(probably do super C before that game anyway kind of like going in release order)
@@Imgoodurbadd As long as you cover Hard Corps eventually. That game is insanely difficult; especially the overseas versions as they removed the health bar which turns the game into “touch of death” like the other Contra games.
Yeah it’s a neat trick. As for super C whenever I get to it, I’ll stick to NES version sorry. I can definitely do arcade on a stream or something. Just not terribly interested in arcade ports
When the game came out I was 7-years old so the 30 lives code was always needed. Playing it as an adult seasoned gamer is definitely easy. Also, there was only NES or Atari at the time.
I can’t relate to that time period but makes me more grateful I got experience the era I did the Wii, Xbox 360, so many great games and great times but when I was introduced to the world of retro things only got better so I’m grateful and Wii shop the goat for giving me the opportunity to delve into older titles without the original hardware(now I collect a bit before things got crazy expensive)
Sure, it's not hard. Especially when it was your first NES game that you ever played, like I did, and you mastered both Contra and Super Contra to the point that, you know all tricks to it and have your own strategy. I mean, I can play Contra 1 and have 30 lives until the end of the game without using a cheat code by just collecting "S" weapon, then "R", then "S" again and so on, and sometimes invincibility pickup on top of that also adds more score. And if you are manage to not die once, up until the final level you will have 30 lives that way. And yes, I can do this without turbo button too, but in my own free time I prefer to play with turbo button, just because I don't want to get tired by rapidly tapping shoot button.
@@Imgoodurbadd And for me it was my very first game. Along with few others. So I learned how to play it by myself. There was no internet, no one to help, just me and the game. I played all of the NES Contra games back in the days. Including Contra Force and that one was a bit easier to learn, but these days I prefer first two games over Contra Force. But what Contra game I refuse to go back to is Contra Hard Corps, despite the fact that I mastered it too. Because that game was pain even after I learned it. But I liked multiple endings and characters that you can play as.
I’m very open to suggestions in the future when I can commit more time to this polls and stuff definitely I wanna do and if I gain the opportunity to stream definitely wanna try stuff I can’t or wouldn’t make a video on.(making an arcade contra video could be repetitive) so thank you for the comment!
Hardcorps is another game that has a an overblown reputation for being too hard. Aside from route C (Alien Mounted Missiles) it really isn’t too bad, just takes a lot of memorization Now getting perfect S ranks on Shattered Soldier that’s different story, probably the hardest level of mastery in a Contra game and not for the weak (aka me)
When I was a kid in the late 80's early 90's I lived on this game. My muscle memory while playing it got to the point where I would start the game, space out thinking of other things, snap out of my stupor and realize I was several levels deep - like sleep walking lol. Easily played through it without dying. Certainly didn't start that way, but after a few years and countless plays it just became muscle memory.
That’s basically what it is. Although when you don’t play something for years you are rusty but that muscle memory kicks in and it’s back to destruction time at least in my case
Hot take: 1st Contra level is actually one of the hardest (after the factory one), and it quickly overwhelms new players. Once you get trough it consistently, the rest of the game will fall shortly
Konami code made this game harder than it needed to be. Instead of gitting gud, we all just grinded our way to the end and proclaimed Contra to be very hard. Coming back to it with a modicum of patience (and adhd medication) it’s actually pretty simple.
I’d say it’s only really(hard due to the one hit system and of course some enemies do just pop up fast like the turret guys) I still love contra great game it’s shocking how short it is once you get good enough
Ah yes, this one's always a blast to go back to. Even though I played Super C more this one's a blast. I used to use the code but eventually I stopped because I don't really like using the Konami code if I'm being honest, the game's only "really hard" if you either 1: haven't played it much before or 2: are prone to getting hit but once you know what to do it's not nearly as hard as some make it out to be
I agree . Contra 1 , 2 and 3 are easy . Even with the machine gun . Except Contra: Shattered Soldier . Getting the secret boss is hell ... But contra 3 is the best of the nintendo contras. Awesome music , cool stages and incredible bosses.
I wonder if you will also cover games that are "hard" for all the wrong reasons like OG Haunted Castle or Castlevania the Adventure ( I know both of these are Castlevanias but they are a perfect example of fake difficulty )
@@secondmemelord8859 I definitely would love to but they are future projects not anytime soon. I can only cover stuff I know pretty well already but they seem like interesting games would love to try and see. (I actually played adventure it’s pretty bad)
Recently replayed this game myself and gotta admit it's not nearly as hard as I remember it as a kid. Probably one of the easier run and guns out there.
Yeah the point is still a classic and it’s rewarding to breeze through it with the spread weapon(although when I stream i gotta try the default weapon only or like flamethrower only runs that sounds fun
I think it’s more the fact you get hit once it’s panic mode when you lose the spread weapon. Constantly jumping will definitely lead to you getting hit by stray projectiles
It's a funny yet interesting coincidence how I got this video in my recommendations just a day after I beat Contra without the konami code too. Not even with save states or rewind (I did it on the anniversary collection on PC). Now, I'll be honest, I had to use continues to make it to the end, my run definetly wasn't as perfect as yours or any other gaming youtuber who has mastered this gem, but I still managed to push through without needing the code. I won't lie, that day I questioned myself. Have I seriously gotten so good at playing video games, or Contra isn't as hard as people made it seem and sound? It's all just a matter of trial and error, and practice and memorization. One advantage I will say I have is that the enemies spawn in the same placesand their shooting pattern and directions are fixed. Nothing feels randomized nor unfair. It's only unfair because you don't know it. Because you don't expect it. But once you do know it and expect it, it suddenly goes from being one of the hardest games ever, to being pretty easy.
At the end of day you beat it and I consider any run that is start to finish no save states no matter how many times you die beaten. Doesn’t have to be clean I like to be mean about it(satirically) but good job. Contra I will say isn’t as high up as other games I covered currently and certainly future games I intend to cover when I get the chance. Like with me try out the other contra entires I hear they are much more difficult than the og nes
This game came packaged in this bootleg plug and play controller called the "Superjoy III" found in various mall stores still to this day. There's a whole interesting story surrounding this with the guy reaponsible for this even being arrested.
Yeah some exceptions like cv3 American and ng3 are harder and probably some I don’t remember right now. Playing Japanese copies does sound interesting especially if they are more difficult as claimed
I've always liked Contra. I like the fast paced frantic frantic gameplay and it's one I go back to a fair bit. I actually managed to convince my wife who doesn't really play many video games to play it with me. We used the Konami code and got to the waterfall level before she was over it. I know retrogames are more the thing for your channel but if you ever get the chance you should check out Super Cyborg. It's a modern game that's pretty heavily inspired by Contra and it's just as hard and just as fun.
I agree it's a fun fast paced game. That's cool you played contra 2 player something I need to find someone good enough to play with me. This channel is early stages so when I get more time to dedicate to this, definitely can expand on more games other than retro or even livestreams but cant stream right now. Thanks for the suggestion!
I’m sure you can. Takes practice and you need to note when the enemies spawn(turret dudes in levels 5-7) and of course the armored giant in level 6 is annoying
Contra is difficult at first. Once you get used to the constantly respawning mooks (just don’t stay still long enough to get overwhelmed), and memorize where the cheap shots are, it does sort of reveal itself to be a more normal video game. Contra 3, on the other hand…well, f#€& Contra 3.
I’m excited to try contra 3 sometime later on. Heard many things and yeah OG contra is annoying cause some areas have enemies that pop up like the turret guys
Uhh I didn’t think it was necessary because the Barrier or B is not a weapon, the bomb only shows up once and not a weapon and I think default weapon rank is unnecessary but I’d put it in D tier with the flamethrower
I don't normally vibe with your "this is all cake if you don't suck" shtick - although I do understand it's just a shtick - but when it comes to Contra I have to agree
Contra is not hard. I hate how the modern devs try to make new Contra games super hard like that's the legacy or something. It doesn't have to be hard, it's just fun to run and shoot the shit out of everything. Contra 4 on the DS pisses me the fuck off. It really is hard
Yeah contra is only really “hard” because you get hit once you lose the weapon(I’ve only played this and one other entry I don’t want to spoil) so unsure if they changed it but yeah contra’s always a fun time even though it is short once you get good(like me haha)
I beat contra as a kid. Still can't beat Mega Man 3, Metroid 1 and Castlevania (without save states). When people make a top 10 NES hardest games lists and puts Contra on the list but not those other games, probably don't spend that much time with Contra. Once you know what each enemy does, it's a cakewalk.
Interesting about mega man 3. Metroid I played once it’s only “hard” if you don’t have a map it’s a game I’ll revisit sometime in the future. Castlevania I’ve played the Classicvanias enough to beat them without savestates cause I just like castlevania that much
Return of the break the ice dude! Yeah Contra 1 isn't that hard. Only tricky level is 6 with some of the spawns and fire sections but it's not too bad. The other contras on the other hand are a lot nastier since there's more bullet/enemy spam or less screen space. Enjoy that awful Wily stage 4 boss :)
Yeah he just kind of fit for that part I laughed a lot. It isn’t but I still like the game Contra is definitely a classic I like to play time from time despite the simplicity and shortness but I enjoy mega man 1 because of that so same thing for contra. And yes definitely have to cover all contras at some point without spoiling can’t promise some of them right now. Lastly, oh yeah I know I hope you enjoy the stupid edit I have in mind for it haha

Glad i entertained! For contra games it’ll be future projects haven’t gotten around to playing the sequels and I have a packed schedule right now
Babe, wake up! ImGoodUrBad uploaded!
He did? No way!
@Imgoodurbadd Yeah! I can't believe it either!
I love the way you edit and make your vids! It makes me wanna sub and git gud at gaming :3
Thanks I really appreciate it! Glad to hear it and with practice and perseverance I’ll label you good
But... you're good and I'm bad, shouldn't I use that fun ass Konami Code? Thanks for the vid, it was a fun trip down memory lane.
Nah you bad still lol. You are most welcome I’m happy I could satisfy that memory.
We used to call the laser + turbo fire the flame thrower.
interesting
To be fair, even back in the day I thought Contra bosses were the easy part. And the last level is pretty easy, I once died after the last S, and still finished the final boss with regular pea-shooter, no problem. I did not know about the Konami code.
Took me a few months to get good enough to finish it, though
Yeah the bosses aren’t that hard(armored giant can be annoying) I didn’t know about Konami code back when I played it the first time as well
People never believed me when I told them I beat it on a single life until they watched me play a few levels.
What one trick? This is like over thirty just to beat the game. 🤷
Keeping the spread weapon that’s it
Yooo, the real Captain N just dropped a new video guys
Watch out Simon Belmont from Captain N jumpscare!
i wanna see that actually. like a brief parody where IGYB is sucked into videoland and speedruns killing mother brain once and for all within 5 minutes
that intro is already a banger
thank you, once again. it's so cool to see these tricks
(like and subscrib, lmao)
You are most welcome. Glad you liked it! I guess after playing these games enough times I can show off how exactly to beat them. Still gotta practice
Contra 3 next please (on hard of course). Still the one game I can't beat despite beating several "hardcore games". Good video as always btw
Thank you I appreciate the kind words! Unfortunately I haven’t gotten around to contra 3 and when I do cover it, you know I’m gonna do the highest difficulty no question!(probably do super C before that game anyway kind of like going in release order)
@@Imgoodurbadd
As long as you cover Hard Corps eventually. That game is insanely difficult; especially the overseas versions as they removed the health bar which turns the game into “touch of death” like the other Contra games.
@ I plan on it later on. Definitely sounds like something up my ally
i did not know you can jump on the spike walls on lvl7 nice. now super C arcade version without dying
I was JUST thinking about this channel, what timing
That’s awesome! Yes this was a bit delayed I didn’t have much time it was a hectic week but I hope I delivered!
I mean wasn’t my first nes game but just uh I got spread easy win
@@Imgoodurbadd And for me it was my very first game. Along with few others. So I learned how to play it by myself. There was no internet, no one to help, just me and the game. I played all of the NES Contra games back in the days. Including Contra Force and that one was a bit easier to learn, but these days I prefer first two games over Contra Force. But what Contra game I refuse to go back to is Contra Hard Corps, despite the fact that I mastered it too. Because that game was pain even after I learned it. But I liked multiple endings and characters that you can play as.
Alright, smart guy. Now, try this on the arcade version. d:
I will. On stream though
Wait, _really?_ I know that might've come across as a "smart" comment, but I'd genuinely like that!
Aside from route C (Alien Mounted Missiles) it really isn’t too bad, just takes a lot of memorization
Now getting perfect S ranks on Shattered Soldier that’s different story, probably the hardest level of mastery in a Contra game and not for the weak (aka me)
I definitely need to try out hard corps someday. So I’ll see if the rumors are true or not
This was fun. subbed
(2 player was perfect)
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the sub I wanna do 2 player but I need someone who won’t drag me down xd
Memes and nes games feel good together somehow
I am glad you think so! Thanks
Contra is baby's first "Nintendo Hard". Great game, but its difficulty is way overhyped.
I can agree with that
Hot take: 1st Contra level is actually one of the hardest (after the factory one), and it quickly overwhelms new players.
I’d say it’s only really(hard due to the one hit system and of course some enemies do just pop up fast like the turret guys) I still love contra great game it’s shocking how short it is once you get good enough
you should do battletoads that game needs more love
Hmm I definitely plan on covering that game. When is to be determined
Ah yes, this one's always a blast to go back to. Even though I played Super C more this one's a blast.
I used to use the code but eventually I stopped because I don't really like using the Konami code if I'm being honest, the game's only "really hard" if you either 1: haven't played it much before or 2: are prone to getting hit but once you know what to do it's not nearly as hard as some make it out to be
Pretty much agree with this. Super c and the rest I gotta play whenever I gain the time
I agree . Contra 1 , 2 and 3 are easy . Even with the machine gun . Except Contra: Shattered Soldier . Getting the secret boss is hell ...
But contra 3 is the best of the nintendo contras. Awesome music , cool stages and incredible bosses.
True. I enjoy the contra games but I’m definitely missing out on some of them I cannot reveal but one day I’ll get around to them all
So what is the ONE trick that Konami hates.
Keeping the spread shot all game long and abusing the hell out of it
Bro with the fire again
I’m glad you think so again haha thanks for the comments
Gutsman Returns in Contra
This time as Will Barrell or the contra Powerup crates
So what you are saying is everyone thinks this game is so hard because they aren't constantly jumping
There is a Romhack of this game called Contra: Revenge of the Red Falcon,if you are ready for a real challenge then it's a must play 👀💎
Ooh livestream material. Definitely will check it out
First tip above any other tip: Play the Japanese version instead,it's faster,it's better and it's harder (first loop difficulty by default) 💎👅
This game came packaged in this bootleg plug and play controller called the "Superjoy III" found in various mall stores still to this day. There's a whole interesting story surrounding this with the guy reaponsible for this even being arrested.
Wow thanks for sharing. I’ll definitely have to research that sometime
y’know, James Rolfe (the guy who plays the AVGN) beat this game without the code when he was a kid. no joke
Where’s the proof xd
We all did, after numerous runs WITH the code...
"I beat Contra before breakfast"
- James Rolfe
Now this is what we’ve been waiting for
Hell yeah. I hope it was what you were looking for
Wanna do the arcade version later?
Probably live stream cause if it’s similar to this version very repetitive
Yeah I have no idea how this game gets lumped into the same category as something like ninja gaiden ngl
Like Johnny says I don’t get it either. It’s fun so it’s fine. Once you play it enough you don’t even need spread weapon to beat it
YES! "Contra" is NOT hard. "Shattered Soldier" IS.
Agree. Not sure what shattered soldier is I’ll check out when I get some time
What crazy timing. I was just playing contra!
Indeed crazy.
Contra sequels tho?
Yeah I’ll get around to them in the future. Haven’t played them and don’t have time to cover them in the immediate future
easy fucking game
but it's quite fun actually, nice video
Thank you! Glad you liked it. Yeah when you know how to run Contra game goes insanely quick
Now do it again but without the turbo bottom
What turbo button? Don’t own a turbo controller
The added animations and sound effects are incredibly annoying.
I agree
*Japanese copies of games have always been harder than the west copies they installed the code so everybody can beat the game & enjoy it!* 💡
Yeah some exceptions like cv3 American and ng3 are harder and probably some I don’t remember right now. Playing Japanese copies does sound interesting especially if they are more difficult as claimed
Amazing video yet again. Keep telling the truth even if they'll hate you for it.
Thank you I appreciate it! Glad you liked the video and don’t worry I will haha
Remember to push select and start after the final boss and during all the credits to get a secret message.
I think it says u suck xd
@Imgoodurbadd Nah I just meant to try out yourself for fun.
@@Dug88ahh yeah maybe sounds fun!
Do you have Battletoads?
I own it in terms of covering it definitely will at some point
I've done this one deathless. Probably can't do it now. Maybe after I shake off the rust
You should really include the B capsule, the bomb and the default weapon in your tier list.
They all B tier tho.
Uhh I didn’t think it was necessary because the Barrier or B is not a weapon, the bomb only shows up once and not a weapon and I think default weapon rank is unnecessary but I’d put it in D tier with the flamethrower
This was the 1st game I ever beat. That's how I know it's easy. Co-op is a blast!
Great job! Yeah I wanna play co-op need to find someone that won’t drag me down haha. Two players spread shot decimates everything on screen
I don't normally vibe with your "this is all cake if you don't suck" shtick - although I do understand it's just a shtick - but when it comes to Contra I have to agree
True
Contra is not hard. I hate how the modern devs try to make new Contra games super hard like that's the legacy or something. It doesn't have to be hard, it's just fun to run and shoot the shit out of everything. Contra 4 on the DS pisses me the fuck off. It really is hard
Yeah contra is only really “hard” because you get hit once you lose the weapon(I’ve only played this and one other entry I don’t want to spoil) so unsure if they changed it but yeah contra’s always a fun time even though it is short once you get good(like me haha)
Contra 4 on the DS is difficult due to the movement being slow as molasses compared to Contra 3 and Hard Corps.
@@Imgoodurbadd Super C is my favorite, I can run right through it no problem but it's fun as shit
heres a simple trick to beat contra use game genie codes
Nah that’s lame. What codes even exist for this game?
dont skip ads for this bro
Epic. Thanks!
1:43 This weapon will make you fail No Nutella (Spread) November.
It’s just that meta I hope you didn’t fail from it hehe
Contra is easy until you hit the hangar
Hangar is full of insta kill traps but level 6 is also annoying
You should show this video to "Fortnite experts". They allegedly can't beat the first level.
Damn that’s sad if true. Dying and eventually beating it is fine but not being able to beat it with 3 lives that’s wow
Castlevania I’ve played the Classicvanias enough to beat them without savestates cause I just like castlevania that much
I grew up in a Super C household, so I always forget Contra's Fire was absolute dogshit when compared to the one in Super C.
Yeah super C’s fire is actually good. Meanwhile never use it in contra 1. Whenever I cover super C definitely revised tierlist xd
They can only damage you the moment they leave the hole they're in. That's just begging for a "that's what she said".
Yeah haha. I went with Indiana Jones running away funnier edit to me imo
@@Imgoodurbadd You're probs playing all of the Megamans just so that Megaman can finally have Pharoahman's power and be punched. I see what you're doing.
@@darkhyrulelordhaven’t planned that far ahead lol. For now I can see myself doing the nes hexology later on hopefully I have time to try out more mega man games especially x series
Honey! Look! The latest episode of "James Rolfe sucks at video games" is out!
Lmao. He didn’t really rag the game too much in his contra episode more of a childhood type thing which I found awesome. He should do more of those
True, I tend to like his opinions a lot better when he's more chill and non hyperbolic. But ey, that's the character. @Imgoodurbadd
Games like these have that one weapon that makes it way easier. GnG with the knife, Castlevania with Holy Water and Ninja Gaiden with Spin Slash
Pretty much but if urgood you’ll hold onto to these weapons all game and never die. It’s that easy
@ lowkey too hard to die 🥱
