    Great review! I wish some of these brands would promote unique or unusual colors, rather than just the standard mix of colors. Produce a set of pigmented set of red or “florals”. Just my two cents. Thanks for your analysis!

    Harry from The Art Gear Guide mentioned the topic of white labeling in one of his reviews. One company buys pens from another and then sells them under its own name. Brutfuner pens are: Kalour, Shuttle Art, Soucolor to name just a few. The Hiforny pens obviously seem to be Brutfuner pens.

    • @ArtJourneyUK

    I think there are one or two factories merrily churning out pencils and theyre being constantly repackaged under different names and in different combinations.
    Boxes, tins, tubes, cases. 60, 75, 120, black edition, sealed ends, with or without extras - whatever. It's an effective marketing technique!
    The pencils are good quality for the price, mine are Brutfuners sold as Wan Shui but i later got a bigger pack sold under a different name - same pencils. Good greens, browns and purples to supplement my Polychromos pencils 😊

    • @MyStarseedColoring
      @MyStarseedColoring 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That is exactly it, and the biggest issue is the confusion it brings when trying to price-check them. And I think that's the point, unfortunately. I've seen Brutfuner-style pencils sold with SO many different names on the listing but the picture shows "Brutfuner" on the tin, same for what I call the "touch" alcohol markers (essentially any cheap alcohol marker that comes in the same square barrel in either white or black, re-labelled with multiple company names).

    • @ArtJourneyUK
      @ArtJourneyUK  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely. People own 10 sets of pencils... and they're all the same! I agree they are decent quality for the money. 🥰

    Hi Lily! Interesting….i have the brutfuner square and also the arrtx, but they are different in my opinion. The arrtx feels a tiny bit creamier than the Brutfuner square and the colors are totally different. I like them both so i have lots of cheaper pencils next to my expensive ones!😁

    • @ArtJourneyUK
      @ArtJourneyUK  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I think the Arrtx are different. My Arrtx are... hmm... rougher than my round Brutfuners. Cheap penciks are fun! 🥰

    I have polychromos and Derwents but saw these in a lovely little case on Amazon Canada for an appealing price ( for 120 pencils , and with all the extras ) . I don’t have Kalours or brutfuners so thought I’d get them for fun and travel as I don’t want to take my $ pencils . Thanks I could tell they were made by one of those companies ; nice to have it confirmed ! 😊

    There are pencil factories that makes a pencil range, then smaller/ mid range or new companies can choose from their colour range and any specific things that they want on and in pencils and the packaging. Essentially the companies are just putting their brand name printed on usually the same (or very similar) pencils. People generally have no idea that this happens, unless they buy from multiple brands and suspect they’re the same pencil. That’s why companies can keep their price points lower and if a brand gets more popular, they then can mark up the price. Obviously this is different for more expensive/professional pencils that usually come from an older well established company. They most likely wouldn’t outsource and have their own factory.

    • @ArtJourneyUK
      @ArtJourneyUK  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yep, fully aware of white labelling, but many are not and will buy every set of cheap Chinese pencils that come out, which is why I make these videos. It surprises that much more well know colouring channels don't always know this! 😉

    Thank you for this video! I was on the fence on whether to get them or not as I couldn't tell if they were oil or wax and I would prefer another set like the original round Bruts. The largest classic set I have are the 48 count Brutfuners. I am curious, though, how well does that blender work on the hi forney? It looks exactly like an 8 pack I got on Temu but it doesn't work on my Bruts at all.

    I have a 72 set of black barrel/black wood Hifourney pencils and I LOVE how creamy and soft they are. I wanted to get a bigger pack but they only have the black set in 72 colors, and I wasn't sure about the white barrels because as you discovered they're the same as the Kalours and I'm not sure if they're the same as the black versions I have. They are different from the Brutfuners I have but I don't have the black barrel ones, and the only Kalours I have are watercolor ones (which do feel similarly creamy, but idk if that's because they're watercolor pencils).
    Now that you've confirmed what I thought I have better chances to decide on packs to buy at least, since some of the Hifourney sets (the 120 set) comes in a beautiful case and is really cheap (and discounted right now). My only issue is justifying the purchase when I already have a 180 set of Brutfuners when they're similar enough according to your tests XD (I think the answer is they aren't worth it for now, so thank you for saving my poor wallet!!)

    • @ArtJourneyUK
      @ArtJourneyUK  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm always tempted by new pencils too...even though I know most now are made by the same factory! I do love my 180 black barrelled Brutfuners but 12 of them are metallic (which I'm not fond of) so it's really just 168 colours.... just lol..😅

  • @CraftingMissAika
    @CraftingMissAika 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I've contacted the seller of Kalour at A-zon asking about the difference between their 180 set colored barrel with an elephant on the black tin vs. black barreled with a dear(?) on the red tin since in the description they are the same apart from the info about the core size ( 3.3 vs. 3.8mm respectively. The answer I was given was that the black barrels are more "professional" grade 😶😑
    I wonder if they are the same and with the same numbers as the black Brutfuners now 🤔 I think I can buy 180 black Kalours cheaper than Brutfuners 'cause idk why their prices went up quite a lot

    • @ArtJourneyUK
      @ArtJourneyUK  หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great video. Thank you. Brutfuner appear to be made in Shenzen. However it appears H and B, based in Shanghai make Arteza (and some Staetler) both of which are listed as ‘partners’ on the H and B website. H and B also make macaron pencils. I think H and B make Artxx, , Kalour and I suspect also Evazar - plus a few more, like your Hiforny. I’m not totally convinced they make Brutfuner, though your argument seems very convincing But I recently bought a pack off Amazon by Bajotien - and inside the pencils were clearly labelled ‘Brutfuner!’. I’ve now started to buy H and B own branded ones from Amazon, (which seem pretty reasonable) plus Brutfuner.

    • @ArtJourneyUK
      @ArtJourneyUK  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      2-3 years ago, before H&B and Kalour were on the scene, the company that were producing the Brutfuner pencils told me they manufacturer both the Arteza and Castle Arts pencils. Since then lots more whitelabeled versions have popped up. Either way, all decent pencils. 🥰

      @@ArtJourneyUK that’s so interesting. Thank you so much for this reply. It confirms my thoughts, and yes, they are all great pencils - and good value - but how annoying to pay for a set of pencils labelled as made by B , in all good faith, only find you already have the set, albeit labelled as manufactured by C!

    So I've watched all your videos about colored pencils. If you had 100, I would have watched them all. No matter how long they are. 😂😄
    I just want a set of colored pencils, that are inexpensive. Where I don't care whether I get a new set or not. I have Polys and Arrtx. As I really use them both a lot, buying a completely new set of the Arrtx every time a few pencils are used up, is stupid and, above all, too expensive in the long run for me. Especially at the price they have here. (70 Euro). I'm saving up for a 2nd high-quality set, and until then, I'll just order Brutfurner. The old round ones 😄 Thank you for all the videos!
