    Brilliant! I'll watch this 400 times, and practice it 4,000 times! This movement being understood and being correctly carried out would seem to solve all the problems in your swing -- prevention being the best cure!

    I think you are one of the best golf instructors on the web.
    Nothing you teach is easy to execute for the golfer who has played bad golf for several years which is the case on most weekend warrior. Yet your explanations about the proper fundamentals of the modern swing is excellent.
    I decided to re learn the golf swing and get rid of the work-arounds and bad mechanics that limited my progress and finally my body is able to make some of the proper moves. A lot of work and a lot of dedication is what is taking.
    Thank you.

    I just did this yesterday and it worked really well. I actually set up with my pelvis tilled back. Stay in this posture and I hit the ball much more purely. Do this guy's. Jonathan knows what he is talking about. Cheers from Edmonton, Canada

    Twenty years ago teachers would preach this posture and all pro pictures and film I
    took clearly showed pros setting up this way. I never did it. I never knew that proper
    Tour level rotation REQUIRES this hip adjustment. Tested this today and was absolutely amazed at how I could easily get inside, fully turn, and hit the driver perfectly with only
    100 yd shots over and over and over. This seems like the engine of the golf swing and without it ........ you might as well give up. It is that important. Forever indebted. Thank you !

    Just came across this. Great explanation. Another reason we mere mortals don’t do it. We’re trying to tilt spine in lower spine. Lower can’t move enough and terrible shots result without perfectly time hand/arm manipulations. We need to tilt from upper spine while moving hips how you are describing

    Hands down best description of the body movement during golf swing.
    Four months ive been working on this and it’s taken me to nut. Plenty of tilt, bake side out. My ball striking has gone up to next level.
    Wish this had of been out before I started 4 months ago.
    Lockdown=plenty of practice.
    Make sure you warm up before working on this.....

    My first coach in CA back in the 80's (Lee Dietrick) had me stick my butt out during the downswing which I could not do consistently. Now I know why & most of what Lee said back then I'm slowly learning why after all these years. I should have practiced & played more over the years! Now I'm beginning to. Thanks Jonathan

    Very interesting. At 5:10 you say that you have to press off with the ball of the big toe (of the right foot) in a clockwise motion. For twenty years I did this in a counter clockwise motion. Will try this tomorrow.

    A year ago I saw tiger woods do a practice move where from the top he just stuck his butt out and arched his back exaggerated. No swing, just dropped his arms, stuck his butt out and arched his back. So I started sticking my butt out as a first move from the top. It was no less than magic. And I do it on every swing now. And I thought it was magic, until you explained what it is doing!

    • @BigOilerFan2011
      @BigOilerFan2011 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would you have the same result if you started with a butt-out position? Or, is this the go signal for you to move down and around into the ball?

    • @rbauer1632
      @rbauer1632 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BigOilerFan2011 I have not tried starting with my butt protruding, so I can't say. What I can say is that it was a surprising discovery simply based on the results of my power increase. And the reason it was surprising is because it doesn't feel powerful. I always associated power with a feeling of my hips extending at impact. Or atleast being stable and supportive. This feeling is the opposite. By pushing my butt back I feel a loss of support. In fact, I do not feel my hips pivot. They pivot purely from muscle memory. All I feel is an increase in spine angle, a lowering of my head and chest towards the ground because of my butt protruding. My best guess is that my increase in distance is because of clubhead speed. And that is why it seemed to be magic. It didn't feel powerful. It almost felt the opposite. But, something more efficient was obviously happening.

    you demonstrated quite a bit in this video with right arm only swings which is a great drill to feel how hips/pelvis moves as long as you get into correct impact position with the whole club and not just flip/roll the club head.
    In fact for the more advanced golfer right hand only swings have helped me get down from 14 to 4 hcp Warning do a lot of strengthening/conditioning if you are going to strike real golf balls as opposed to sponge but i can now hit 6 iron 120 right arm only.

  • @PeterKennedyMD
    @PeterKennedyMD 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice. You talk about much more than a. pelvic tilt. Actually, the hips don't rotate. In the backswing, the right hip is forced backwards. In the downswing, the left hip is pushed backwards.The overall posture of a "tilt" comes naturally as one: a. pushes away from the momentum generated by the clubhead. If thee was no resistance to that force, you'd fall on your face. And I've done it! I have a peripheral neuropathy which has put lights out on my proprioceptive receptors--i.e. my balance is awful. I've gone from a Hcp of 4 to no ball striking at all. So I've had to redo the whole swing.

    • @JonathanTaylor63
      @JonathanTaylor63  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your Pelvic has a range of movement/tilt, tilted forward, sticking your bum out is called anterior tilt and tilted back or sticking your other bits out:)is called posterior tilt. You have a higher range of movement in your hip joints when your Pelic is in anterior tilt. During your backswing your Pevic tilts slightly backwards(Posterior Tilt)and must be tilted forwards(Anterior Tilt) so that you can turn your hips properly. Once turned, your Pelvic goes into posterior tilt again as you hit the ball which also allows you to use the ground forces to accelerate your swing by straightening your legs. (Watch Justin Thomas or any Lady on the LPGA tour)

    For me LPGA players do this even more noticeably/exaggeratedly than the men. Because they are not as strong in the upper body and arms.Unfortunately most golfers take the game up as adults and hit at the ball with the hands/clubhead and dont feel the need to use their hips/legs. if you play against good junior golfers their legs/hips dominate. Unfortunately the vast majority of great ball strikers learnt as kids!

      If you are turning your hips it is your trail leg which is not working hard enough but I would bet that you slide your hips and tilt your upper body away from the target and that is why you are on your back foot. Try the drill and your hip rotation should improve.

    [memo] 투어 프로들은 어떤 방법으로 그렇게 hip turn을 잘 할 수 있을까?
    - 거기엔 일종의 Trick이 있다. 거기엔 특별히 Turn Further 하게하는 한 가지가 있는 것이다.
    (그들은) hips을 돌리는 것이 아니라, 골반(pelvis)을 돌린다.
    골반은 두 다리 위에 탑재되어 있기 때문에, 오른 다리 주위나 왼쪽 엉덩이관절 주변을 돌 수 있다.
    *골반의 tilting (angle)에 따라서 쉽게 돌기도, 어렵게 돌기도 한다.
    - 골반은 앞으로, 뒤로, 중립적으로 tilt 될 수 있다. 특히 늙으면 엉덩이살이 작아지고 골반을 돌리는 것도 줄어든다.
    *궁둥이가 밖으로 튀어나오게 앞쪽으로 tilt 하면 뒤쪽에서의 회전이 약간 쉬워진다. 그래서 다운스윙을 하면서 rotation을 시작할 때, 전혀 회전을 하지 않고, 골반을 Tilt 하면서 rotate 하면 되는데 ... 나는 이것을 tilton turn 이라고 부르는데.. 골반을 뒤로 tilt 할 수 있으면, extension을 하기 위한 턴을 하기 전에 더 많이 turn 할 수 있으며 스윙을 가속시킬 수 있다. 이것이 hip turn 의 전부다.
    *골반을 뒤쪽에서 tilt 할 때에, 척추는 앞쪽으로 tilt 하게 되고, 머리가 내려가기 때문에 땅을 칠까봐 겁을 내는데... 제대로 rotate 한다면 즉 tilt 하고 rotate 한다면, 역 피봇의 느낌이 들테지만, 이것을 원치 않거니와.. tilt and rotate 하면 오른쪽 다리에 너무 많은 체중이 실리기 때문에 체중이 왼발에 실려야 한다고 여기는 생각을 하면서 이걸 하지 않는다. 당신이 골반을 뒤에서 tilt 하지 않는 이유 3가지를 살펴봤는데..
    당신은 당신이 생각하는 '스윙은 이래야 한다'는 생각에 반하는 것이라고 여기는데... 실상은 그렇지 않다.
    두 팔과 가슴을 이은 선에 cross 되게 클럽을 바닥에 두고, 백스윙을 하는데.. 왼쪽어깨를 하향으로 돌릴 때 느껴지는 저항감을 느껴볼 것.
    체중이 오른쪽 엉덩이 뒤쪽 위에 실리는 느낌. 오른쪽엄지발가락을 누르면서 공과 멀어지는 느낌과 마치 담배꽁초를 오른발엄지발가락을 시계방향으로 돌려서 비벼끄는 듯한 동작인데.. 이 동작이 엉덩이를 돌리는 걸 돕는다. 그러면서 왼발로 push 하는 동작이 엉덩이가 돌아가는 것을 돕는다.
    - 기본적으로 양 다리에 실리는 힘은 균등하게 한다. 이렇게 tilt 해도 더 이상 tilt 되지 못하는 한계가 있기 때문에 긴장하거나 겁낼 필요는 없다. 거기가 바로 공에 대해 가속을 시작해야 하는 곳인데.. 이것이 프로들이 잘 하는 것이다. 투어 프로들은 기본적으로 뒤에서 앞으로 기울이는 tilt를 하는데... 이것이 마치 hip을 뒤쪽으로 돌리는 것처럼 보이게 한다. 그렇지만 ...
    * 실제로는 그렇게 돌리는 것이 아니며, 단지 엉덩이를 stick out 하는 것뿐이다. 일단 엉덩이를 stick out 하면, rotate 하는 것이 보다 쉬워진다. 그래서 두 다리를 이용해서 자신의 몸통을 screw around 한다.
    - 우측다리가 땅바닥에 압력을 가하여 왼쪽발과 함께 타겟방향으로 힘이 작용하도록 함으로써 클럽을 가속시키는데.. 클럽헤드가 우측무릎높이에 왔을 때, 땅으로 press 하며 지면반력을 이용해서 가속을 하고 extension을 한다.
    * Hips을 돌리면 ; (1) chicken wing이 안 되고 (2) 클럽face를 Square 상태로 오랫동안 볼 앞쪽에 있는 손뭉치 안에 유지할 수 있고 (3) Extension도 더 할 수 있어서 head speed를 더 낼 수 있다.
    이제, 당신의 hip turn 이 왜 그렇게도 중요한지 확실히 알았을 것이다 !

    I feel this one was a miss. Not that the facts aren't right, but no one should be thinking of a swing like that. I like Mike Malaska's explanation about using your front leg to push "back" your hip - it it gives you anterior tilt - ok... pushing back or using your front leg as counter force to let your swing release - whip..

    • @Out418
      @Out418 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I think Mike Malaska’s idea is very similar. Getting the hip back and out of the way is the key idea. This is a way to achieve that goal.
