Jonathan, I can't thank you enough for the succinct and on topic videos. You have translated many misnomers I've had and explained areas that I never knew how to do but knew somewhere and somehow I needed to do. You have basically slowed down an athletic move that happens in a blink. Please keep them coming. Eddie D.
Been interested in George Gankas for a good while, but this is the best explanation of what he is teaching I have seen and heard and that includes from him , great video Jonathan
Terrific video Jonathan! Between your’s and G Gankas’ videos, what more do we now need! The chipping illustration is perfect as it is one thing to know what we should be doing and another thing altogether to be able to reproduce it accurately! GG’s video on the Ceiling drill is also extremely helpful on the necessary downswing sequencing . It is great you have produced videos like this, as I can now see a much better way to swing the club than being obsessed with trying to swing hands and arms faster. Better late than never!
I think for trying this it is important to feel relaxed up top in your body and arms. If too much tension it makes the lower body movement all the more difficult. Great video once again Jonathan
Excellent video! I’m a pretty hard hip bumper. Went out to my back yard low tech COVID influenced practice center. Working on rotating behind the left leg and letting momentum carry me forward feels awesome. It was giving my eyes and brain the go light to just pound the back of the ball with my whole body like a piston.
Mr. Taylor, it's all your fault. I picked up golf again this year after giving it up. I practiced for and played for years but was never able to break 80. This year I decided to give it another try and started watching videos on you tube but concentrated on yours the most. Last night I shot the best round of the year and I many of my shots made me think " that was a professional swing" . I have no choice but to blame you for that. And I thank you. May you and your family be blessed forever.
Great explanations Jonathan! I now have great expectations. I like how you explained to stay balanced in between both feet so to say while rotating the pelvis. That makes it easier not to sway on to your lead foot in the downswing. Thanks for the great instructions you post. Allan in Sweden.
Thanks, Jonathan. I've been watching George Gankas for awhile too & didn't quite get the drop-down from him until I saw ur vid today. Thank you, great lesson!
Respectfully, I have watched GG and did not understand a thing he was saying and in fact did not even believe it. UNTIL - seeing this awesome explanation !!!!! At the same time I ran across Milo , who says the same thing. Wow, golf is complicated - but we are so lucky to have such hard working, humble teachers online trying to help us. This technique seems to be the secret engine for all swings. Forever grateful for you.
George is great but Jonathan’s explanations are much more detailed, articulate and helpful-also being tailored to a general audience rather than being a broadcast of instruction to a gifted student.
Bravo Mr Taylor, Great info, this move is an evolutionary change in the fundamentals of the golf swing. Good golf can be played a lot of ways but, for a long time it was taught only one way. Now from experimentation different moves have evolved that differ from the conventional golf swing. Also, your humbleness in giving GG the credit he deserves speaks volumes about the type of person you are. I've been a subcriber for a while and have enjoyed your content. Thank you for all you do.
I commented favourably on your last video. This is another that is really excellent in explaining a fundamental that is not generally discussed or understood. Great and well done! Hopefully your next will cover the sequencing of the impact to follow through. Thanks for the clarity on the pelvic movement. Good luck with your adult film carreer as well!
This makes so much sense, thanks! I came at golf a few years ago from a baseball (a long time ago) background and have been having all sorts of battles with this idea - the lessons I took all were about weight transfer to the front foot but my best strikes all come from swings where, if anything, my front foot is almost off the ground (like the picture you showed of JT). Especially with the driver. So I've been very confused about this for a while. Thanks for this video, it was one of those lightbulb moments for me.
Very good insight to pelvic movement. Sliders take note. Re. the Golden Bear, when Jack wanted distance he knew adrenaline kicked in. He wants the feeling of swinging slower to counter it. He still smashes it though. Nothing to do with his little finger, big toe or hips.
Hi Jonathon. Something that has always intrigued me is the teachings and comments from players and teachers, is that during the downswing, the left arm is pulling down and through and the right hand on the club is just a passenger? I remember Vijay Singh was given as a prime example? Jonathon, can you please share your wealth of knowledge and explain whether this is true and if so, how and why does it happen. Regards David from Perth West Australia
The lead arm is certainly active from the transition on down and it will probably feel like pulling the club down but at the start of the down swing it is just resisting the forces created in the change of direction. At about hip height both arms become active resisting the club which is trying to release and accelerating the club through the ball.
From my experience keeping focused on the ball and not moving the head (at least not consciously) and feeling like I'm staying behind the ball seems to create the coil I need, and then waiting until the ball is struck before moving through and up seems to create the right lower body and pelvic action to lag the arms and hands through the release and up to the finish. Not sure how articulate that is. It's really a feeling that seems to work for me.
makes so much sense. but after doing it wrong for years, it is tough to get that feeling. any suggestions for deprogramming your old swing and bring in the new.
What is a good swing thought, maybe a couple I could try? I recently just hurt my lower back swinging due to my pelvis "jumping" forward and up during transition. I'm afraid to hit balls without doing this correctly, and since I've been doing the extreme opposite of this it's difficult to grasp.
Hi jonathan! Nice vid. M just wonder, when v tilt d left hip to start the down swing, what is d weight distribution . It is equal between trail n lead?
Ok, it’s like I heard, “it’s like your are sitting on a stool just behind you and a little back at 45°. That is what I get. But what about when you extend out and push off? I can do one but the push off is hard to do and always late for me. How do you incorporate the two? Is it slowing your hands? What is the feeling to release the club properly? I just can’t seem to marry up the two parts? Maybe I’m sitting down too much? Is it just a slight downward motion than push off? Please help me understand. Thanks, Jonathan!
Strange because if you watch Rory in slow motion at top of swing he has a huge move into his left leg as most pros do way before any rotation takes place

You are very welcome!!
Cant believe I found your videos. An absolute gem in the sea of golf tutorials.
Been interested in George Gankas for a good while, but this is the best explanation of what he is teaching I have seen and heard and that includes from him , great video Jonathan
Excellent lesson and break down of bio-mechanics! About a years worth of lessons in just over 12 minutes!

Johathan, good clear explanation. Many thanks. Ground forces are everything. cheers

Fantastiques vos vidéos Monsieur Taylor et merci pour le sous titrage en français :)

Ditto for me! GG is great but your explanation really made it click!!!! Beautiful swing by the way.

Brilliant ! Very very informative as always - many thanks for this gold dust
Brilliant tutorial. Easy explained yet all the important details and what they är important.

Awesome lesson
Well that was interesting; I'm still working on not leaning back in my back swing, but maybe I'll get to this in the future. Thanks for the video!

Can you use this method with all swings.? Thank you
@@pamelarichardson4258 Pamela, I think you meant to ask this question of Jonathan, who is the teaching pro who posted the video?

Great drill. Really got me some extra yards out of my 5 wood 😄🙏🏻
Please share the distance and / or accuracy gains you obtained since switching to this method.

Lots of ideas, download my PDF for just 99cents here:swing-simply.com/en/swing-simply-philosophy/
I wish you could use two cameras so we could take in your knowledge and insight in two different angles.

Keep your knees bent until you have finished the turn to the target! NO swing thoughts at all!

Kelvin Miyahira - full explained this back in 2011 - well before GGSwingTips

Sounds like a pelvic rotation more than a hip rotation. Is that your message?
When I could do that.... 15 years ago.... Hit 30 yards further
Strange because if you watch Rory in slow motion at top of swing he has a huge move into his left leg as most pros do way before any rotation takes place
The hip joint doesn't get over the foot joint until after he has hit the ball.
Jonathan Taylor do believe in starting your move to left before backswing is complete?
Hi Jonathan, like this a lot. Where are you teaching? Greetings)
Munich, Germany
They are all good Jonathan but this takes the biscuit......
