Well Borja, I see no problem bringing character to your old property as there are already two characters living there….with one more in training. As for Dean, I was impressed that by the end of the video when the landing and stairs were being stained he was actually wearing gloves, guaranteeing there will be no stains on his hands-on renovation reputation. 49 years ago, when we had our home built, my husband and I stained all the trim in the house - in the basement - in December - in Upstate New York - with no heat or running water connected yet. Good times! We were both working full time and Christmas morning there we were, getting the job done. Watching you stain the floor, brought all those memories back. Thank you for sharing your staining experience, and may you look back on this time fondly, 50 years from now.
Oh wow! Sounds like something that we would do! 😊😊 Dean and I first apartment together nearly 13 years ago we were painting in New Year’s Eve, we were so exhausted that when the clock struck midnight we were deep asleep 😂

Collecting antiques is my most enjoyable experience - problem develops when my collection becomes bigger than my home. Perhaps that is why I have moved 19 times in my 69 years - I will try to keep it going for as many years as possible because "ain't it fun?" Of course, luck and hard work have always been involved.

I absolutely love the dark colour on the oak, I don't like modern it feels cold to me, darker feels warmer, and suits the surroundings like the beams and that beautiful bureau 😊
It takes a special appreciation of materials and colors to meld the old with the new to create modern spaces. You two have that perfect sense. Love it!❤️❤️
@@mytinyestateI really agree. The wavelength of a colour is very important for its effect on bio rhythms and mood. Your choices are calm and timeless. BTW, did you ever consider painting the stair risers to add accent or colour? (Modif.) My error: I see you have stained the stairs.

I have always renovated older homes and properties. I enjoy going to friends and families homes that are modern, but I want to come back to my older, more nostalgic/realistic home. I do not enjoy either painting or staining - but gotta sometimes do it. Staining is by far the most difficult. LOVE THE STAIN COLOR YOU HAVE BOTH WORKED VERY HARD ON. I have a farm house in the U.S. where I grew up, and a beautiful property/home in Austria. After I am gone, if none of the family wants any of my stuff then they can sell it.
Staining is tricky to get that perfect colour that works appropriately for the house! We do love modern stuff too but we have become obsessed with finding antiques they just have so many stories which make them special and unique 🥰
The stairs had to be a beautiful deep brown, it is such a charming old building the light color would be too modern. Excellent choice and beautiful job! I adore your channel! ❤️
I definitely love the colour of the windows and door frames. I like dark wood floors, but the brighter version didn't look bad either. I would probably have just bought a finished dark parquet floor and installed it, instead of staining it.
Great work. The whole landing area looks lovely already. I think I had that typewriter at home, when I first started to learn typing. Boy was that a long time ago. Best wishes
The color you guys picked was spot on for the stairs and the landing! The natural color was very nice, but a bit too modern for the aesthetic you’re trying to maintain throughout your beautiful estate. I really enjoyed having my morning coffee with you guys! 😁🤗🥰😁
When you mentioned about painting the window frames in Matt, it reminded me of the tip I was given from my uncle who was a decorator. He always for the wood gloss, mixed half and half of Matt emulsion with gloss paint. It gives a great hard wearing finish between a Matt and a satin looking surface. Just thought if you hadn’t already, you might like to give it a try.
I adore the stain colour of the staircase. I know most decorators want colours that are neutral and light, but I am old-fashioned in that I like colours that are a little darker. I do not like it too dark but I prefer it to be a little darker, especially with little kids and the mess they make when they use the walls as a blank canvas.

@@mytinyestate It’s almost as though old cottages are happiest with this colour theme, taking them back to their early days. Although, having said that, I found a dark sage green on the back of one of my cottage doors. Mine was built in 1890s so not as old as yours, but they have so much character don’t they x
You were so right about the stain colour, it is perfect. Can I just suggest that the beautiful picture on the landing goes to an expert to get re stretched, it has a rippled look because it has become loose on it’s stretcher, which is not good for the painting.

Actually, I also like oak light or white washed- like your families -, but your staircase is absolutely beautiful, fits you and your 3-man house 😉 perfectly. I'm already excited about the railing. Greetings from cologne Andy
I'll admit when I first saw the stain going on I thought it was way too dark! But, it really does look lovely and right for the age of the house. I'm kind of surprised with a kid coming you didn't opt to carpet the stairs? I had no trouble with them as a kid, but both my brother and sister (having longer legs and bigger feet 😁) had a habit of falling both down and UP the stairs on a fairly regular basis. I swear, my sister's legs were bruised from knee to shin for at least the first 10 years of her life. Anyway, carpeting on stairs can be a b*tch to clean, so there's that. Finished, the landing area is gorgeous! 😘

The stain works really well 😊for £20k you could buy the equipment to make the banisters and spindles yourself lol and have a big chunk of change left over 😂
That’s what our thoughts are 😬😆
Actually, I also like oak light or white washed- like your families -, but your staircase is absolutely beautiful, fits you and your 3-man house 😉 perfectly. I'm already excited about the railing. Greetings from cologne Andy
Ahh thanks 🥰
I know! That’s our only worry we will just have to be very cautious with him using them
