The cyclists appear to be sensibly controlling the road and preventing someone chancing it and going for a dangerous pass. Clip finishes before we see the motorist able to overtake. I'm afraid I see nothing wrong with waiting 20 seconds behind cyclists for an appropriate opportunity to overtake. If I'm out riding with a group we'll wave people past when we can see the road is clear and if things are getting silly with blind bend after blind bend we'll pull over for a drink to let people by. When do you think the motorist should have gone for the overtake had the cyclists been riding in single file? Through the pinch point, towards oncoming traffic, or just before the blind bend?
@@roaduser6438 I personally would've ridden single file from about 0.15 to give the driver the option of overtaking since it appears to be fairly quiet road. I only ride like this if an overtaking car could cause danger to myself (on narrow roads generally).

We do not know what car this is. But as we'll see no matter the size of the car it would still be unsafe to overtake immediately. "In a single file I would have overtaken them immediately" So through the pinch point with the traffic island? Cyclists are advised to ride no closer than 50cm to the kerb and typically ride between that and 1.2m out. You then need to add on half the width of the bike from where the cyclist is riding,lets say 30cm. So the cyclist will take up between 1m and 1.5m of road space. Add on the recommended 1.5m of room to pass safely and you should be giving the cyclist between 2.5 and 3m of space when passing. The video shows a typical UK road. These tend to be up to 7.4m wide but are often narrower. Divide in 2 and you have a width of 3.7m. Take away half a metre for half of the traffic island we see and you're left with a lane width of 3.2m. Now if you're being a good driver and giving the cyclist the 2.5m to 3m of space you should how on earth are you going to pass the cyclist safely in the remaining 20-70cm? Do you have a super narrow 20cm wide 'compact' car? Have I misunderstood what you're saying? Are you just a dangerous driver?

What does annoy me is those cyclists that group up and hord the road so no1 can pass and put themselves and others in danger.

During a turn (even a slight one), the rear tyre loses grip and slides sideways for a fraction of a second, then violently re-grips the road and Newton's Third Law does the rest - i.e., chucks the rider over the bars. Been there, done that.
I suspect it's a fixed gear bike and when he leans too far his pedal strikes the the road and kicks the rear out as it momentarily lifts the back tire off the ground.

As someone who got betrayed by my transportation equipment (2 weeks ago), I can really say the helmet probably saved me a stay in Hospital. Front wheel jammed while going flat out, landed on my face, helmet had a crack down the front, and had a 10x10 cm patch grated off. Appreciate the PSA.
Statistically speaking,Head injuries are more likely to happen in a car than on a bicycle. Not many people are aware of this fact. The reasons being that cars generally are going faster than a pushbike,and there are many points of contact in the car,what ever angle the car is hit from. So in fairness drivers and passengers should really wear helmets also. I read once that is the reason they don't make cycling helmets mandatory in most countries.

There's so many ways to fiddle that statistic could be biased. Here's a statistic for you. When Vietnam introduced mandatory motorcycle helmets for scooters/motorbikes, hospitals reported a significant increase in the number of people with motorbike/scooter accidents. Before they introduced the rule, these people all just died on the scene and never made it to the emergency department
As a cyclist I despissssseeee when people hog the entire lane, let the dang cars drive past and keep to the side! We all have to share in traffic. The single most dangerous people in traffic for cyclists are other cyclists.... and people with dogs who don't keep a short leash... also I work with dogs and am very careful and mindful of cyclists when out walking.
So many impatient fools making silly overtakes need to be stopped from risking a life to get somewhere 10 seconds earlier. At times, blocking the lane is the smart thing to do, but can be overdone for sure
If the lane the bike is on is narrow and a car and a bike can't safely occupy the lane together, it's best not to move to the side and force the car to pass using the opposite lane in a passing zone.

The cyclist and trucker are both being charged by the police. The trucker faces 6 months in prison and a 2,500 fine, while the cyclist faces 2 years and a 5,000 fine. Nobody made the cyclist do anything. He did it because he was bigger and thought he could get away with it.
So truck guy comes storming out, realizes how damn big the cyclist is and hesitates. You can hear the gears of his mind turning against the blind road rage to help him realize how much danger he's in. But, his legs have learned to lean into your problems, so onward he walks until backward he falls.
I remember when a cyclist was going too fast and aggressive one day on my way to work, I was going to have a word with him but when we both reached the red light and he put his legs down and was standing with his bicycle in between his legs, I realised this dude must have been about 6ft 8in at least, I thought to myself, nah ain't worth it given he has a whole foot over me, was fairly well built too. People assume for some reason cyclists are weak, fragile creatures scared of conflict, until they come across someone who isn't and their brain just turns off unsure what to do next like the truck driver did lol.
Also I forget to add that cyclists are already physical ready to fight as they literally been working out for x amount of time and they are already pumped so why pick a fight with them? While whoever is driving is going in cold.

I'm not one for violence, but the truck driver could have seriously hurt him by "moving onto him", when the cyclist was in that corner. AND he stormed out like an idiot when the cyclist was already retreating. So yeah, hell yeah, he deserved at the very least a fist in the face!

Agree is not fair to set a fight but sometimes cyclists deserve a good punch. Scecially when they truly thinks that they are over cars trucks people and even babies. My twins were almost run over a bike in their kart (when we were crosing a pedestrian walk), my other son was run over a bike also crossing a pedestrian walk...... never had incidents with any transport but only with cyclist. Not a coincidence

I watched a horse bite a farriers arm almost all of the way off above the elbow when I was a kid,he barely survived and lost his arm. The sheriff shot the horse when it grabbed his fat roll and my sister and I laughed our asses off. The only horse sis hated. Too many bites, too dangerous to keep.
Horses are mean, spiteful, and borderline evil creatures and shouldn't be trusted an inch. Wild horses are worse than that. I'll never understand why people think a wild animal with young will not hurt them. This dude rolled up on that horse like it was a cat and he wanted to pet it.

The bond developed between a person and a horse is all about trust. She trusts me to climb up on her back. I trust her to not throw me off. She trusts me to keep her safe and I trust her for the same. A relationship built on trust is a beautiful thing.

There were two instances of people using the road. The first one was legal. He took the road and made it hiw own. The second one was being a dick weaving all over to prevent a pass.
Thanks for pointing out the original video. Based on the clip shown here I'd have sided with the cyclist, motorist shouldn't really look to overtake with a pinch point, or oncoming traffic or blind bends so I saw nothing wrong with what the cyclist was doing owning the road. On the original clip though both the motorist and cyclist act like dicks. The motorist tailgating and not overtaking despite a 15+ second window where it appears he'd have been able to, the cyclist weaving dangerously to block the driver. Shame we don't get to see what happened earlier to trigger this.

I'm a cyclist but i never obstruct traffic. It just feels really stupid to block a vehicle that could just crush you. Off-road biking is where it's at anyway.
I wish more cyclist are like you. So many are oblivious to the traffic behind them or they just don’t care, especially on those one lane roads. It’s like, you can totally move to the side and not take up the middle of the lane. Super annoying.

If there isn't room for the bike and the car in the same lane, you WANT the car to pass you like they would any other vehicle, using the incoming lane in a passing zone. We aren't being wankers just for the heck of it, we are looking out for our safety and yours. I once moved into the center of the lane as I had a car that seemed like he was going to try to squeeze by me on a narrow lane on a curvy road. I effectively blocked him and I could see he was annoyed (i have a little helmet mirror). Not three seconds later, a car came up from the opposite lane at high speed that he wouldn't have seen because of the blind turn. Had I let him pass me there, there would have been a collision that would have hurt all three of us. I will say the guy weaving across the road had issues. Not sure who started it but I think if it's getting that heated then it's best to just de-escalate and let the motorist by.

I will never understand why some cyclists deliberately challenge cars and their drivers. Cars are bigger, heavier and faster, they're gonna win. When I still could ride a bike I did everything possible to stay out of the way and not irritate car drivers, but that little lesson of "the car will win" seems to have escaped some people. He ain't "challenging" the car. It's only frustrated, insecure and ignorant drivers who feel "challenged". When I was a kid, we were doing a big multi-day bike tour and someone in the group accidentally did the same thing as 1:40 (overlapped tires) right when a semi was going by and was killed. Helmet was in a million pieces. Ride safe and don't be a jerk.

I'm very glad my city - Edmonton, Alberta - has a generous infrastructure of bike paths and dedicated bike lanes. When the snow is off the ground I commute by bike almost an hour each way. I can go half-way across the city and only have to be on a regular road for a handful of blocks. And even then it's residential and side roads and not main thoroughfares.
A million gold medals to that cyclist ! My hero, You only need to be a cyclist to understand how satisfying this is because unlike what you think dear drivers we cyclists aren't the problem most of the time, the competition is not even close, you win by far.

Which massive crash? There have been loads of them way back in the 70's there was one so bad that so many riders had to retire a domestic won the stage. He was told off by his team manager until the yellow jersey (his team) explained he told him to do it as he had enough bottles to finish the stage. There were several similar in the 80's and 90's. That said 2021 has seen a hell of a lot more than usual retire.
You usually need to purchase the rights to show professional cycling footage. I follow a couple of cycling channels on youtube and they usually only show images of the race and not the video. One has access to some footage, but it is limited.

i saw a bicyclist trying to get hit for an insurance claim. every time a car tried to pass he dove into the lane. i watched it for 5 cars in front of me. luckily, there was no cars behind me to witness anything. i did make sure he got up though. hopefully he learned his lesson and moved on to another scam
Never pick a fight with a vehicle. They're large and metal and are operated by combustion engines. Also, there are many satisfying videos of cyclists getting shitmixed when they fuck with motorists and think they can get away.

During a turn (even a slight one), the rear tyre loses grip and slides sideways for a fraction of a second, then violently re-grips the road and Newton's Third Law does the rest - i.e., chucks the rider over the bars. Been there, done that.
I suspect it's a fixed gear bike and when he leans too far his pedal strikes the the road and kicks the rear out as it momentarily lifts the back tire off the ground.

As someone who got betrayed by my transportation equipment (2 weeks ago), I can really say the helmet probably saved me a stay in Hospital. Front wheel jammed while going flat out, landed on my face, helmet had a crack down the front, and had a 10x10 cm patch grated off. Appreciate the PSA.

Statistically speaking,Head injuries are more likely to happen in a car than on a bicycle. Not many people are aware of this fact. The reasons being that cars generally are going faster than a pushbike,and there are many points of contact in the car,what ever angle the car is hit from. So in fairness drivers and passengers should really wear helmets also. I read once that is the reason they don't make cycling helmets mandatory in most countries.

There's so many ways to fiddle that statistic could be biased. Here's a statistic for you. When Vietnam introduced mandatory motorcycle helmets for scooters/motorbikes, hospitals reported a significant increase in the number of people with motorbike/scooter accidents. Before they introduced the rule, these people all just died on the scene and never made it to the emergency department
As a cyclist I despissssseeee when people hog the entire lane, let the dang cars drive past and keep to the side! We all have to share in traffic. The single most dangerous people in traffic for cyclists are other cyclists.... and people with dogs who don't keep a short leash... also I work with dogs and am very careful and mindful of cyclists when out walking.
So many impatient fools making silly overtakes need to be stopped from risking a life to get somewhere 10 seconds earlier. At times, blocking the lane is the smart thing to do, but can be overdone for sure
If the lane the bike is on is narrow and a car and a bike can't safely occupy the lane together, it's best not to move to the side and force the car to pass using the opposite lane in a passing zone.

The cyclist and trucker are both being charged by the police. The trucker faces 6 months in prison and a 2,500 fine, while the cyclist faces 2 years and a 5,000 fine.
Nobody made the cyclist do anything. He did it because he was bigger and thought he could get away with it.

So truck guy comes storming out, realizes how damn big the cyclist is and hesitates. You can hear the gears of his mind turning against the blind road rage to help him realize how much danger he's in. But, his legs have learned to lean into your problems, so onward he walks until backward he falls.
I remember when a cyclist was going too fast and aggressive one day on my way to work, I was going to have a word with him but when we both reached the red light and he put his legs down and was standing with his bicycle in between his legs, I realised this dude must have been about 6ft 8in at least, I thought to myself, nah ain't worth it given he has a whole foot over me, was fairly well built too. People assume for some reason cyclists are weak, fragile creatures scared of conflict, until they come across someone who isn't and their brain just turns off unsure what to do next like the truck driver did lol.
Also I forget to add that cyclists are already physical ready to fight as they literally been working out for x amount of time and they are already pumped so why pick a fight with them? While whoever is driving is going in cold.

I’ve had cyclists ride in the middle of the road in front of me going about 10 mph in a 50, what pisses me off is there was a bike lane right next to them. They were riding in the street rather than the bike lane meant for them

My twins were almost run over a bike in their kart (when we were crosing a pedestrian walk), my other son was run over a bike also crossing a pedestrian walk...... never had incidents with any transport but only with cyclist. I watched a horse bite a farriers arm almost all of the way off above the elbow when I was a kid,he barely survived and lost his arm. The sheriff shot the horse when it grabbed his fat roll and my sister and I laughed our asses off. The only horse sis hated. Too many bites, too dangerous to keep.
Horses are mean, spiteful, and borderline evil creatures and shouldn't be trusted an inch. Wild horses are worse than that. I'll never understand why people think a wild animal with young will not hurt them. This dude rolled up on that horse like it was a cat and he wanted to pet it.

The bond developed between a person and a horse is all about trust. She trusts me to climb up on her back. I trust her to not throw me off. There were two instances of people using the road. The first one was legal. He took the road and made it hiw own. The second one was being a dick weaving all over to prevent a pass.
Thanks for pointing out the original video. Based on the clip shown here I'd have sided with the cyclist, motorist shouldn't really look to overtake with a pinch point, or oncoming traffic or blind bends so I saw nothing wrong with what the cyclist was doing owning the road.
On the original clip though both the motorist and cyclist act like dicks. The motorist tailgating and not overtaking despite a 15+ second window where it appears he'd have been able to, the cyclist weaving dangerously to block the driver. Shame we don't get to see what happened earlier to trigger this.

I'm a cyclist but i never obstruct traffic. It just feels really stupid to block a vehicle that could just crush you. Off-road biking is where it's at anyway.
I wish more cyclist are like you. So many are oblivious to the traffic behind them or they just don’t care, especially on those one lane roads. It’s like, you can totally move to the side and not take up the middle of the lane. Super annoying.

If there isn't room for the bike and the car in the same lane, you WANT the car to pass you like they would any other vehicle, using the incoming lane in a passing zone. We aren't being wankers just for the heck of it, we are looking out for our safety and yours.
I once moved into the center of the lane as I had a car that seemed like he was going to try to squeeze by me on a narrow lane on a curvy road. I effectively blocked him and I could see he was annoyed (i have a little helmet mirror). Not three seconds later, a car came up from the opposite lane at high speed that he wouldn't have seen because of the blind turn. Had I let him pass me there, there would have been a collision that would have hurt all three of us.
I will say the guy weaving across the road had issues. Not sure who started it but I think if it's getting that heated then it's best to just de-escalate and let the motorist by.
@@geometric5103 Legit seen a cyclist on a 2 lane highway plodding along at 15kmh right in the middle of the lane, there's a perfectly fine breakdown lane he could have used, even if he pulled over to it for 1 minute to let the motorists pass (single white line so nobody could overtake) but no, every one else had to slow down because of them. I will never understand why some cyclists deliberately challenge cars and their drivers. Cars are bigger, heavier and faster, they're gonna win. When I still could ride a bike I did everything possible to stay out of the way and not irritate car drivers, but that little lesson of "the car will win" seems to have escaped some people. When I was a kid, we were doing a big multi-day bike tour and someone in the group accidentally did the same thing as 1:40 (overlapped tires) right when a semi was going by and was killed. Helmet was in a million pieces. Ride safe and don't be a jerk.

I'm very glad my city - Edmonton, Alberta - has a generous infrastructure of bike paths and dedicated bike lanes. When the snow is off the ground I commute by bike almost an hour each way. I can go half-way across the city and only have to be on a regular road for a handful of blocks. And even then it's residential and side roads and not main thoroughfares.
Those two months a year must be glorious (wink from Vancouver, mate).

You have to cycling. Ever needed a few stitches or even butterfly stitches to your leg? They have to shave it first and that hurts like an SOB (worse than the cut itself by a long long way) and is far more common in cycling than people would believe.

Indeed. The horse was just playing with him, didn't even break the skin. He's going to have an impressive bruise in the shape of some massive molars, but no real injury. Whether he'll have any more _common sense_ is undetermined though.

Which massive crash? There have been loads of them way back in the 70's there was one so bad that so many riders had to retire a domestic won the stage. He was told off by his team manager until the yellow jersey (his team) explained he told him to do it as he had enough bottles to finish the stage. There were several similar in the 80's and 90's. That said 2021 has seen a hell of a lot more than usual retire.

You usually need to purchase the rights to show professional cycling footage. I follow a couple of cycling channels on youtube and they usually only show images of the race and not the video. One has access to some footage, but it is limited.

i saw a bicyclist trying to get hit for an insurance claim. every time a car tried to pass he dove into the lane. i watched it for 5 cars in front of me. luckily, there was no cars behind me to witness anything. i did make sure he got up though. hopefully he learned his lesson and moved on to another scam
