    I look at the 74mm knife range as a 58mm on steroids. Of course it's a knife made for smaller jobs, but that's why we also buy 84mm, 91mm, 93mm, 111mm and whatever else Victorinox produces. Let's be honest, knife people just want an excuse to buy another knife and it doesn't take much for us to come up with one. 🤣

    • @Sam_T2000
      @Sam_T2000 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I wish they’d take the whole 58mm line and produce them in 74mm options, as well… and maybe just save the 58s for the simplest models, up to the Rambler, maybe?
      and more options in the 84mm size would be desirable… especially ones with scissors 👌

      @@Sam_T2000 For reasons beyond my comprehension, the 74mm models cost nearly the same or even more than a standard 91mm. For this reason, the 74mm models were an outcast as consumers would just buy a Hiker, Spartan or Climber. Also, Victorinox's products are top notch but their marketing strategies are poor. You never see a smart ad from Victorinox where some crafty dude does something cool with their knives. Instead, they hire totally unknown 'designers' to hold the knife and do something meaningless. I'm sure they have the potential to sell many more SAKs but they have yet to unravel that trait. Perhaps if they had been doing their homework 20-30 years ago, they wouldn't have had to discontinue so many models nowadays. But that's just my opinion. I could be totally wrong. @victorinox

    • @Sam_T2000
      @Sam_T2000 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@timsummers870 - what they really need to do is start some “create your own SAK” service, where customers can order knives with bespoke toolsets… I’m sure it would cost an arm and a leg, but surely lots of Victorinox weirdos like me would order several, and after a while they’d see what tools, sizes, and combinations are in highest demand 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @timsummers870
      @timsummers870 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Sam_T2000 It's possible to customize an SAK in the aftermarket, but as you said, they cost an arm and a leg. They basically take apart two or three SAKs to produce one with the tools you want, which adds to the price. Another setback is that they won't ship them to many countries around the world. But yes, I'm with you. I'd love to have that option.

    Huge fan of this knife, a shame 74mm is discontinued. I use the orange peeler as a designated package opener as well, much like the 58mm "cut-and-picker" blade and the can opener on older Wengers. A package/box opener is my 4th favorite tool behind scissors, cap lifter, and nail file. Since I always have a larger folder on me I use those much more than I ever use the blade even.

      Happy Monday, FYI the 74mm Executive is not discontinued , its still on Victorinox's website as a current model & its listed as such on SAKWiki, its just very hard to come by as its only been made in very small batches since 2014 & of the 2 colors the black scaled model is harder to find as less of them are made than the red scaled model.
