Fire Spittin Jet Powered Kayak On The Water Test

  • Kayaking is supposed to be a calm and peaceful retreat. Not today!
Super complicated, over priced, inefficient and obnoxiously loud. Those are just a few reasons why this may not be the best idea. This kayak made by Pelican (Catch PWR 100) is ready for a motor to get clamped onto it right from the factory but I might have misinterpreted that concept. Anyone looking for a motorized kayak would fair better with an electric trolling motor on this vessel. See more by clicking this link...

Unless our "secret space program", AKA Space Force, gives us a power supply that taps into the radiant "Tesla" energy, thus no need to carry fuel. Tesla's system was invented in 1898. A 10 HP gas engine with a 42" prop will get you going over 30 mph. I built a Rocky Mountain Airboat back in the 80's and used it to cruise the Delaware River even through the rapids up 10 miles and down 10 miles from where I lived. A jet does nothing for you at these low speeds but drink fuel. I used to cruise down river to my Dad's place 5 miles south of me and then cruise back home on less than 1/2 gallon of gas. My measured thrust of that set-up was 50 pounds of thrust. It would move my little boat on wet grass. The turbine's exhaust speeds only come into play when the craft reaches the wind speed generated by the prop minus the drag. So, for example, in an airplane with such and such HP and a certain pitch prop it can only go X speed as that is the speed of the wind coming off the prop minus the drag. A turbine's exhaust speed is many times faster so, if it has the thrust to move the aircraft it can eventually get it to go much faster than any prop could. I give you an A+ for inventiveness and ingenuity though.

You have a problem with the blow molded plastic and too much surface tension, hydrofoil is the way to go and could be light enough to retrofit to your kayak, in principle its a brilliant idea what you have done with your craft, also consider fitting a nosil to create a venturi affect on your thrust that should easily double your thrust

Cool built although impractical because of noise. I would at least for safety create a firewall between that jet engine and the back of my head. Or at least a cage around the front half so if it so if for some reason it exploded and or became dismounted in any way it wouldn’t decapitate or break any ribs. Enjoyed watching this build and keep it up bro!

The drag of the hull of the boat is slowing you. Some hydro foil would help but you would have to be going faster. Either that or build a fan blade attached to the exhaust to to prop geared down to push you thru the water to use some of that power more efficiently. Either way, coolest freaking Kayak on the water! Nice build!

Camera audio is messed up, only on left channel, you can fix that in editing by making the soundtrack mono instead of stereo but you probably already know that.
