Exactly right. Sankey and Moody and revival hymn tunes sound great on reed organs because you have lyrical melodies with uncomplicated (often simple octave) parts in the left hand. Plenty of scope to use the rumbling subbass reeds without making the bass part sound ‘muddy’. These hymn tunes were becoming popular at the same time as there was a huge boom in the manufacture of reed organs in north America - they are inextricably linked.
@@Knappa22 I agree! I have an 1897 Reed organ that I love to play, and some of the hymns, especially ones from that time era seem to be written for an Reed Organ.
Oh how wonderful. Haven’t heard this tune in years. It’s the first hymn I remember singing as a solo in public, at a local musical competition (eisteddfod). It was out of a hymnal called ‘The Fellowship Hymn Book.’ This brought back so many memories :)
Sang that hymn from my earliest childhood, although the arrangement was different - there were some delightfully surprising chords that our book's arrangement didn't have. As always, great instrument and great playing. Thanks for sharing.
Love this hymn! The Reed organ seems like it's just made to play the old hymns! Beautiful!

Perfection! Thank You!
How delightful that was ! Thank you Rodney (from Australia).
What beautiful phrasing!!
Soul stirring ❤
Thanks for the hymn and history of Mr Palmer.
Beautiful! And beautifully played! There is a difference between a person being able to play a piece and one who does so with feeling and love.
Fight manfully onward! Dark passions subdue!
Somehow the bass wasn't comin throughward strongly enough. Were you usin pedals or just left hand?
