This made me cry. I haven't heard this song in many years. I used to play the reed organ in my home, kept in the foyer at the bottom of the staircase, when my kids went to bed. Their memories are of "Shall We Gather At The River" and "Beulah Land" and other Baptist hymns my grandfather had favored. I don't think I played this one, but it is beautiful and it made me cry. Vocalist George Beverly Shea's voice came to me, too. The dynamic toward the end was magnificent. Reed organs rule.
Nice! This is a good example of how expressive this instrument, or any reed, (or pump organ as I call it), is capable of doing. To this day, whenever I play the piano or church organ, I get many comments on how much feeling I put into my music. I guess having a reed organ in the kitchen where I grew up had an influence on my playing! I did play this at a funeral as requested by the family. Nicely done Rodney!
Beautifully played as always! It would be nice to hear some hymns specially for All-souls-Eve and All-Saints-Eve. Keep those uploads coming. they're great. God bless
Wonderful song, wonderful instrument and beautifully played! Of all of the times that I've heard this song played I don't think I've ever heard it played as beautifully as it is done here! It's all though the song was written for this instrument and the instrument made for this song, and the player birthed to play it with such finesse and feeling! Thank you sir! A job with done!
This instrument actually sounds amazing with Singing. It could also be used with Electric Bowed instruments from Wood Violins because they're both expressive in their dynamics. Mark Wood who invented the Viper (Flying V Shaped Electronic Violin) has never seen or heard a Reed Organ before.
