The PS2 version brings back so many great memories.
Even if I wasn't focused on the missions, I could spend hours just getting lost exploring New York and swinging around, trying new tricks, and seeing how fast I could reach one end of the city.

Til this day, I will dedust my ps2 and play it every now and then (kudos for sony that ps2 works.. my psp from 2009 still works and my ps3 works too : D). Recently I played spiderman on pc (the new ps4 game) and it was great but I was missing that getting faster on the web (r2 press) that ps2 has. The ps2 version really had it perfect, they try to replicate it and they still only mostly succed to do it : )

The PC version of Spider-Man 2 literally made me cry as a child. I had played the Xbox port at the cinema, and begged my Dad for it, and one day he came home with the PC port, and when I realised it was a completely different game, and how terrible it was, I broke down into tears. Luckily he proceeded to sell the PC game on eBay, and bought me the PS2 Game.

I have finished the PC version of SM2 (2004) 4 times. Yeah, I liked it.
Jump kicking enemies in the head was solid.
And that "Tears of the Kingdom" level is still VERY visually good, and prolly my favourite.
Also, it was the gameboy advance version of either this or SM1 that basically cemented Left and Right in my memory as a kid. L to web swing and R to shoot webs (if I remember correctly).

Played the Gamecube version at the beginning of 2022 after watching No Way Home in Cinemas. And yeah it's pretty great swinging around New York city. But parts of it can be pretty difficult, especially with the Acrobat challenges, the later Mary Jane/Daily Bugle and Pizza Delivery challenges due to the extremly Strict Time Limits, trying to find all the location tokens and doing the Boat Rescue challenges to fufill the achievement was a pain as it was one of the rarest citizen challenges to come up as you had to constantly talk to people hoping it would come up. Also you cannot fall into the water ever as you will automatically fail and you had to talk to people to get that challenge again.

One thing I remember dearly about the PS2 version is that it was one of the fastest loading games of it’s era. I remember counting no more than 30 seconds between the PlayStation 2 intro and the map fully loaded with Spidey just waiting for a good ol’ swing. A real gem of that time.

The console version was one of the best Spiderman games every made, let alone best games ever made in my opinion. The pizza delivery minigame was great and there were so many hidden collectables to find. Also these games were the only capacity in which I knew anything about Bruce Campbell until a year or so ago when I finally watched all the Evil Dead stuff which made those all that much better 😅 I remember I had a rental copy of the PS2 version before I actually owned the game and I got all the way to the Mysterio, Statue of Liberty part but had a bit of trouble and couldn't progress before I had to return the game. Once I owned the game I ended up beating it no problem. I recently started replaying the game on my original Xbox and it's still an amazing game!

As one of the gamers who played PC version back in the days, because I didn't had internet back then and had no idea that there is other consoles existing, outside of NES and Sega Mega Drive, I will say that I liked PC version. Sure, it is not what you expected but still, for a 13 years old me back then, it was fun. It is only later, when I found out about other consoles and games, and about PS2 version of Spider-Man 2 game. But at that point, I had already played Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man 3 and Friend or Foe. But you know what? Those are not my only Spider-Man games that I have been played. Cause, before getting PC, I played tons of Spider-Man games on 8 and 16 bit consoles. Like, Spider-Man Return of Sinister Six on NES, Spider-Man vs The Kingpin and Spider-Man and Venom Maximum Carnage on Sega Mega Drive. And they were fun. Sure, at this point I have played every single big Spider-Man game, except still that PS2 version of Spider-Man 2, but still, I have soft spot for classics. Returning to PC version of Spider-Man 2, I would say that I still like it. It is not as bad as everyone makes it to be. It's like a first movie game but a little changed and improved, in comparison to the first game.

Definitely felt like heaven getting my hands on the gba version at 12yo. I saw ur spiderman 1 analyses and I played the gameboy ver of that too but after playing sm2 which was still the best because it was literally just more spiderman for my spidey brain. My first full console spidey was ultimate and life only got better. Had ultimate for the ds too but i think i was getting spoiled at that point cuz i only remember wanting to keep playing that rather than what I actually played haha. Anyway, outside of mechanics and tight controls, the console/gameboy sm2 character designs look amazing to me and I applaud and bless the devs who are responsible.

Honestly, even though it is older and a bit jankier, I honestly like it a lot better than the PS4 game. The PS4 villains are way too easy and repetitive (literally every fight except Shocker is "dodge > web > attack, there's almost no meaningful variety", and though not as fluid I like the web swinging here much better because getting really good with it feels amazing. Too much of PS4's feels like auto-pilot. The PS4 game is definitely an impressive and fantastic game, but my preferences always leaned towards the PS2 classic because I always enjoy going back to play that more than I do the PS4 one.

I played console version on original XBox and it was awesome, liked this game quite a lot. Although I vividly remember that it was very hard for me at times, mostly Misterio levels and some other boss fights. After that, PC version was a very big letdown. I did finish it, but it is nowhere near that good.

Back then I got my hands on the PC version of the game, not having any idea that it was different from the console one. I ended up spending a good time wondering why people were so crazy about the game until I finally got to play the PS2 version. The PC version is not only notably short and with a smaller map, but you don't even get to do free roaming. You have to unlock parts of the map as you play along and every time there's a boss battle you get a screen prompt before showing you exactly how to beat the boss. It literally is a game for little kids.
Now the console version was a complete game changer. Open world games weren't as ubiquitous as they are now, let alone superhero ones, and nearly every new Spider-Man game after that one took the blueprint from this one. People praise Insomniac's game a lot, but really all that game does is take what the previous ones did and make it look nicer. Everything started here.

I got this game for my PS2 a year ago because I played it as a child. And thought the side stuff is hard, repetitive and not worth the effort nothing beats webbing criminals, spinning around and hitting their friends with them in like 50km and then seeing how long they fly and hard how hard they hit the ground. Throwing criminals off rooftops and into the river is also hilarious

It's interesting Spiderman 3 PSP looked at 2&3 console more. I remember bits and pieces of 1-3 console versions (PS2 for 1&2, PS3 for 3). I struggled with the goon pit level. Don't have it anymore but did get Spiderman 1 movie game again and beat it
I remember the pizza music/level, remember the city, hero points and other bits besides having seen a let's play of it and the things I missed.
I didn't like Spiderman PS4 the outposts, the generic was about it. Sunset Overdrive did a good job not being generic. Other open worlds can be good but nope. There is a reason I only liked the radar and laser above and below side missions, task master missions and the doc Oct lab puzzles. That's it I found the writing fine, I found the character swapping not a bad thing but they didn't add much the stealth is fine but eh the game wants to be so cinematic but I find it boring like every Sony first party now. The open world formula I hate is in Spiderman PS4, it is in Infamous Second Son as well but for some reason the abilities and writing is better. The things you do in it are more exciting of graffi, of hidden cameras and more. They do get boring to clear everything out it's boring as ever from that perspective compared to Sunset Overdrive or Gravity Rush or just like any open world 5 minutes to get to everything when I'd play a linear game for its obstacle course level design or a map I select from like Driver Renegade then do them.
Rift Apart is garbage and too safe too so Insomniac hasn't made a good game since Sunset Overdrive, if not open world then I'd say Ratchet Nexus or Crack in Time. Resistance 3 I guess. Fuse was a fine game but it's not the most ideal game. The PS3 experimental Ratchet games were fine, All 4 One was Fuse but more boring and Full Frontal Assault/QForce was a fair tower defence game.
The handheld versions are always interesting. Surprised with the Ngage version I know many were GBA/PS1 but surprised they updated the graphics it looks pretty fair for the time even if level design and content wise is lazy not surprised due to it being a platform most people didn't have/wasn't supported long.
PSP yeah it's pretty cheap too. Not the best it may be impressive but also yeah odd character models and cheap effort to make it the 1st game and somewhat tie it to the second. But has to have the 2 in the name. But they didn't want to release the first game on the system. Very stupid.
    DS seems alright.
Surprised no J2ME or Java phone version hmm.

i would argue that this game's swinging mechanics are better than the 2018 game's version for a few reasons, the most glaring one is that you can swing low enough to the ground in which spider-man will run across the ground whereas in the ps4 version, the game will hold your hand, and spidey will float for a few seconds before shooting out a line, which feels pretty unsatisfying. Secondly, you can charge your jump, which will give you a manual feel as you control how far spidey will jump, as opposed to one button x button press in the ps4 version

LMAO at the PS2 game having better swinging.
And the charged jump mechanic sucked. It was awkward and unfun. There is a reason later Spider-Man games did away with it.
