Friedman ASC-10 Reference Cabinet Review | A high-quality cabinet with a price to match!

- In this video, I discuss the Friedman ASC-10 Cabinet and how I use it for sound reinforcement when playing live. I have been using this for almost a year paired with my #quadcortex and I have enjoyed using it. The cabinet is loud enough to be used in a full-band situation, and weighs in at 36lbs.
The sound clips are captured using a Sennheiser e609 microphone into Logic Pro. Obviously, this is not the most ideal way of capturing a reference cabinet, as there is a separate woofer and horn, but you're probably listening to this review on your iPhone anyway... 🙃

Thanks for sharing this. I have the Quad and I’ve run it through powered JBLs just borrowed from church. But I’m wanting something that looks like a guitar cab. My favorite stock sound on the quad was the Friedman so when I started searching for cab options this got me excited. Appreciate you showing it!
Hmm the last two higher gain coming through that amp were super dark but the first couple sounded great
I was actually looking at these last week. I’ve recently switched to QC and I’m thinking about going the reference speaker route.
Thanks for the info! Great playing as well
It is one of the few guitar items that I feel you buy and keep forever. I probably didn’t talk about this as much as I should have in the video, but this thing is PRETTY to look at and built to last. Let me know if you pick one up!
@@DCFGuitar Will do. I'm digging the QC, so the ASC-10 would be perfect. Currently using a Bose S1 Pro+, but I am using that as an all-rounder piece of equipment rather than a dedicated guitar FRFR. Works fine as a mini-PA, rehearsal speaker for my QC, and a stage monitor for overall reinforcement, but just doesn't have the same character as the Friedman
@Dustyn Fink you didn’t mention in the video but since this is a reference speaker (& not a real cab) can you leave the cab section turned on in whatever you’re running through the speaker or do you have to turn the cab/ir off bc it will sound weird (like you’re playing through 2 cabs)? Also does it work the same with plugins (such as neural dsp) through an audio interface since there’s only 1 input in the friedman speaker? Bc I’m looking for something like this or a FRFR to play through with plugins on a laptop that doesn’t colour the sound like a traditional speaker cabinet would. But I want it to sound like a real cabinet is in the room with the ability to push air like one to get that feedback/sustain like Gary Moore (which isn’t possible with studio monitors) and have unlimited amplifier & cab/IR possibilities with the plugins I am using.
Yes I leave the cab sim turned on. I imagine it works the same way with an interface and plugins as well. It’s a very good reference cab, although can be a bit dark like I stated in the video
Thanks for the review! I have a Fractal Audio FM-3... hope this is a good match for it. I can't seem to find a dealer in Montreal. Do you have people you know who bought stuff directly from Friedman?
Thanks for watching, I do not know of anyone who’s ordered directly from Friedman unfortunately. Let me know if you decide to pick one up and how you like it 👍
Hmm I’m using as regular guitar cab. I wonder if it makes sense to buy this. I have a Friedman amp and Dave’s a genius and a lot of his pedals too. I’ve heard Dave say yrs ago that frfr is like the current word and don’t quote me he doesn’t use it. Which he doesn’t.
I’ve recently had some opportunities to use this cab at full volumes, it is absolutely fantastic when cranked up! I’m pretty much all-in on modelers, and still happy with this reference cab.
