Thank you, great video. I have Massimo 400 Buck but the shifting is very similar to your Polaris. It helped me a tremendously last week to fix the shifting problem that got stuck on High. Thanks again.
Just an fyi mine would only run In low on limp mode with no high at all. Park and other gears worked perfect. Changed it out it was broke. Ask of right now it works great. Thank you for the vedio. Mines a 2018 rzr 900
Excellent video. Turned out the spring that pushes up the pawl was broke not the pawl. I'd suggest ordering a spring along with the pawl before tackling the repair. Thank you for this helpful video!
There was fluid (tiny bit) that ran out when you removed the cover plate. Where did that fluid come from? I assume it is not necessary to provide any lubrication on any of the new parts we are putting in? GREAT GREAT video. Thank you!!
That's great video! I have an RZR 1000 and it is in neutral and will not shift either way. I verified the front shifter linkage and the cable move freely but the rear linkage will not budge. Any ideas what is going on?
Love the video! But my 2016 rzr 1000s has the opposite problem, can't find high gear, at all!!! I already changed the roller pawl, the shift shaft, the spring, the shifter sensor, the cable, did the adjustment on the cable all the way up and down, new shifter, and new primary clutch and secondary and still won't find high gear? Any thoughts?
It's gonna be more involved. Your high gear and potentially the engagement dog inside the transmission is shot. Where they engage together is probably rounded off. It's a common problem and consists of most of the transmission rebuilds I do. There is a video of me rebuilding one on TH-cam. We show you how to take the trans out and how to break it down and rebuild it.
Hello friend, I just bought a 2014 Polaris XP 1000. I don't have much experience in this since it is my first RZR. Anyway, this Saturday I took it to the sand and it worked fine for a couple of hours. Then it just turned off and I turned it on again and I wanted to. put H and it turned off again it only turns on but it doesn't go as long as I want to make any change other than park or or neutral it turns off and the lever gets too hard basically it only turns on in P or N when I lower the lever it turns off and it sounds something ugly where here is the band thank you very much for your time I hope for an idea of what the problem could be thanks in advance
You have a belt and clutch issue. It's not the transmission. Sounds pretty bad. Bad enough you're probably going to have to have the primary clutch rebuilt or buy a new one. For sure a belt. You might even have to have the secondary clutch looked at as well.
Just done this fix on mine and the gear selection doesnt want act right now could it possibly be off one tooth on line up ? Otherwise it seems to shift like butter now
Hey if that spring is out when you pull the plate off like just falls out do you think it would cause the trans to make a stripping sound in reverse and stall machine in high ?
What’s that whole assembly called? I’ve taken mine apart as it was stuck in high but it still feels somewhat stiff. I’d like to order the whole assembly as I damaged mine a bit Thanks
If you don’t set that gear right with the 2 dots will it not read right on the screen? I’m having that problem now trying to diagnose if this is the problem. Park reads high and vice versa
I have a 2024 Ranger 570 Full size. When I put it in park, I ALWAYS have to slight rock it (usually by putting my foot on the ground) and then it will just fall into park. This is 99% of the time. I removed the shift cable and it did the same thing but only about 50% of the time. So half the time it would just fall down into park when I shifted the lever (using a wrench) The other 50% it stopped just like with the cable attached, I could then barley roll it and it would fall into "park". My local dealer tried to tell me this is normal which is absolutely nuts!! That is not normal on any type of vehicle with gears. Here is the video I made for the dealer to show them what it was doing. Any insight will be appreciated. This video you did was awesome! I also found out the 570 FS does not have a roller on the detent but just a simple point, part# 3235603 problem demo video th-cam.com/video/wENnb1tGISc/w-d-xo.html
It has major transmission issues. Your talking engagement dogs and the low and high gear. If it's that bad off, you probably have bearings that need replaced. I'd bet you're looking at around $400 to $500 in parts. The labor of taking that trans out, fixing it, and reinstalling it is the hard part. For me, it's a half day to get it out, half day to fix, and another half day to reinstall. I like to take lots of breaks though LOL.
My shifter cable is extremely loose alot of slack in it. Its hard to get it to go into reverse but high is fine. Lo it will pop out if gear sometimes i got a 2012 900xp. Should i change the shifter cable ?
If those are working and high and low aren't, you could be dealing with a bigger problem. I would imagine the high and low gears and/or the engagement dogs inside the transmission are shot. I've seen this a lot in older machines. I have a video on youtube that shows how to rebuild the transmission. It's not overly complicated.
Just looked up anything to helpe figure out why my 2018 new to me 1KTS will not engage into H gear. All other gears are working as normal. My question is..before I open the area you showed in tgis video im wondering is it possible that that roller is broken or ? If machine goes into all the other gears ok im assuming that the roller is possibly ok. Mmm..? .one last question: : since I got this bike Ive noticed how intense the engine clutch braking is and I mean its so bad the even w feathering brake and accelerator together it is very difficult to keep the bike from smoothly coming to a stop or just a slow down. Is this normal on these 2018 1k TS? Thanks
Yep, you have a couple major issues going on. First, the high gear inside your transmission and / or the engagement dog is worn. I've seen this quite often. You're going to need to replace those parts, which means you have to pull the transmission. Second, the main bearing in your primary clutch is shot. This means you will have to completely tear down your primary clutch. It's going to need buttons, washer, main bearing, and probably roller pins, and maybe even weighs. (I'd do a complete rebuild). You're looking at some serious coin if you have someone else do this work. Parts might only cost $500. But paying someone for the labor will set you back another $1500 to $2000. Sorry for the bad news. But hey, I'm not there to witness any of this myself, so get an in-person opinion from someone with knowledge on Polaris machines.
I'm having an issue where the shifter is extremely stiff, and once I get it into high, I can't move it out of high. Actually need to put a wrench on the lever and pry it at the same time to get the shifter out of high. Any idea what that may be, the temps are in the plus now so It isn't an icing issue anymore like I thought it might have been originally up here in northern ontario. Any incite would be very appreciated. Cheers
@@larissalopez9131 Hey, so I had to disassemble where the shifter goes into the transmission. The shaft was just corroded from water getting in I'm guessing. So follow this video, and just clean up the shaft, mine shifts amazing now, just make sure when you put the black plastic cap on "shift sensor", you put it on the right way, there is a tab. That's what my issue was. Good luck
If the engagement dogs were replaced due to wear, the gears would have been worn as well. In fact, those gear engagement shoulders on the gears wear faster than the engagement dogs. You could also be looking at a stretched shift cable. It just might need to be adjusted or replaced. I have had to do a few of those.
Yours has a transmission much like the RZR. I'd say yes, this could be your issue and would be best and easiest thing to check. If not, it's going to be the park locking ring gear inside the case. However, after years of rebuilding these transmissions, I've never seen that ring go bad or even wear significantly. 99.9% chance this is your issue.
Could be a number of reasons. 1. If you have it in 2 wheel drive more often than not. 2. The bulk of the weight is in the rear of the machine. 3. The torque can be a little stronger in the rear because it's direct drive from the transmission. The front wheels are connected to a drive shaft that then connects to a small differential. 4. Are you drifting around corners and / or doing donuts? Sliding the rear of the machine will put more wear on the rear tires.
What is that fluid that came out of the enclosure when you opened it up to pull the pawl roller out? Is that supposed to be in there? What type of sealant did you use to close it all back up?
So how does the tranny fluid get in it? Is there a 1 way check valve that lets a little in? Or do u pour some in before u put it back together??? What’s the name of that main part and or the little parts u used. Can’t find them. Thanks!
Before you take the transmission out, disconnect the shift cable and make sure that isn't the problem. If it's working good, move on to the shifting parts like I've shown in this video. If nothing is broken inside, you're gonna have to get inside the transmission.
Hello, my Polaris 1000 xp 2014 will change cable speed sensor of the gears I would like to q you number part of what you changed and thank you for your response, greetings from Peru.

Does it actually go into high gear physically? You could have a sensor issues or the shift cable is out of wack, but no, it's not going to be the part I'm talking about in this video.

Good info man. I've never seen a spring break, but that's good advice and cheap enough to just have one on hand.
There was fluid (tiny bit) that ran out when you removed the cover plate. Where did that fluid come from? I assume it is not necessary to provide any lubrication on any of the new parts we are putting in? GREAT GREAT video. Thank you!!
It;s just residual gear oil from the trans. No need to lubricate when working on it. Once you fire it up and drive it, fluid will flow into that area.
Thanks for the information ill get started on this project
