    Thank you Sir, that was extremely helpful and my 2011 escape with 93,000 miles is suffering the exact symptoms you describe at minutes 7:00 and 11:00. I take it in tomorrow as I received a recall notice. Thanks again!!

    My 2011 Ford Escape had the same problem: Idle speed and no throttle. Brien Ford in Everett Wa. evaluated my car and implemeted recall 13N03 and 13B17. I was well satisfied with the support from Brien Ford.

    Update. I'm a 16 year mechanic I've been replacing these electronic throttle body's for years. One of my cars is a 2016 Ford Fusion se 2.5 liter four cylinder it has 7,200 miles on it. I was kinda surprised recently when sitting at a light then put my foot down to go and no throttle response long story short got it going ran the vin number on official ford web page and bingo recall on electronic throttle body took it to Jim Tidwell ford where I bought it. Ran diagnostic check throttle body did throw a failure code they replaced free of charge added 10 year or 150,000 thousand mile warranty. So anyone having these problems run your vin on there official web page for free and see if yours falls into this new recall. Also even if your not having any issues no matter what kinda car you have run your vin number you never no what recalls are out there usually a dealer notifies you of a problem if you bought a vehicle used from a friend a online add or changed your address you may not get a recall notice so check your vin it's worth the time.

      I guess this Throttle Actuator Control problem is a commun issue, I got the Wrench light on with the service manual message, no response on the gas pedal, made it to park at 3MPH, restarted the engine and back to normal, did it 2 more times, 13 Explorer with only 65k miles on it, and reading by lots of complaint on the the website CARCOMPLAINS COM

    • @ricorc
      @ricorc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Juan C. Lopez that exact thing happened to my 2012 explorer. Hit the gas and nothing slowed down and parked safely. Do you replace it yet? If so did this work?

    My Ford Fusion 2010 - is rough - both running & idling. It doesn't shut down. It seems to happen more when the weather is cold or when you first start the car & it may calm down in a few minutes or 20 minutes or so. This doesn't happen every day but seems to happen more frequently. I have about 93,000 miles on it. Thanks!

    If you're still watching this thread, do you recommend replacing the throttle body (TB) for hesitation issues - but no CEL/MIL? '09, 3.0, AWD. Thanks Edit: Installed new one from Amz for $52: I disconnected the battery, pulled the old one off and as my gasket/o-ring was fine, cleaned it up, and installed the new TB. Reconnected the battery and did an idle calibration.
    The next day I headed out on a 600+ mile roundtrip...and the MM ran VERY WELL. 75MPH Freeway, multiple high elevation passes, city driving and had No hesitation, no shifting issues. Haven't checked MPG, but may be that improved, too? Also....and could be my imagination...seems to run quieter @ idle, even though the idle RPM hasn't changed.

    Thanks Maluko!! I always watch your vids, and they are simply great! I live out of the Sates, so I'm kind of out of manufacture warranty, but anyways, just want to add some words. I have a 2011 3.0 Escape with this exact issue. Spotting a safe place to stop and then turning the car's engine off for a few seconds, will turn off the wrench light (which btw indicates/triggers the fault). I've also noticed during the faulty driving the 6th gear won't engage correctly, power is dropped, fuel economy drops significantly too. I'll try the Amazon throttle, and hope it helps!
    Cheers!

    We have a 2011 Ford Fusion that has been having issues described in this video. The dealer has been instructed by Ford to NOT replace the ETB because the computer has not logged any code showing this part is having any issues. Hopefully some of you have had better experiences than what I have had with Ford.

    • @FordTechMakuloco

      Mike Schwartz I know it is BS they are ultra cheap right now follow the link in the videos description and replace it yourself. I also have an idle relearn video coming out for after it is replaced.

      Mike Schwartz They told me the same thing but I found a service bulliten (ASI-32332) that basically said that the codes P2111, P2112 may or not be stored. I had to open a BBB auto ticket to even get a call back.

    • @mikeschwartz7134

      I called Ford customer service and opened a ticket with them. They told me the same thing as the dealer. No code = no ETF replacement. I have already bought a new ETF from Amazon and will be replacing it myself. Not sure how to recalibrate the new one though.

  • @joshg1244
    @joshg1244 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    My 08&09 Focus had/have most of those symptoms. I've noticed when accelerating, in 3rd gear around 2,100RPM and mild throttle, the RPMs will surge up and down about 150RPMs. Also at Idle if you lightly tap the gas the RPMs go up and down below the normal idle speed, and come back up to idle.

    My 2011 Fusion with 93K miles started acting up a few days ago. Was fine, but then one day turned it on and while in park, idle RPM was jumping around and car was jerking back and forth. Only way to stop it was to turn it off or put it in neutral. Next day, it seemed fine. Fast forward to today and I hit the expressway, land at 60mph and the car starts to decelerate on its own. Would turn the car off and back on and would get the wrench, check engine, battery, and oil light. Turn off and on again and sometimes only check engine light, sometimes a combo of all of those. Car wouldnt move more than 2mph for a few feet and then just stop. Had to tow it. I have it at a reputable local mechanic and am hoping it is something as simple as the above fix (which would have been free had I taken my fusion in to a dealer).

    There is something that is called kill codes that are coded in the embedded chip.The code kills the chip whenever they want it to. most likely days are even months after warranty has expired so you have to by a new product . I however have no proof of this because you cant pull the code off the chip as it is password protected and or encrypted.

    So, my wife’s 2009 escape 3.0 does what you’re describing with being held back at Hwy speed, and also sometimes fails to accelerate when leaving a stop, she notices the light for the traction control come on when this happens. Then it turns off.
    Of course it won’t do it for me when I go out and test drive it, and there are no codes coming up in my scanner.
    Would you say the throttle buddy recall is my issue?
    Other things I’ve read is possibly the speed sensor in the transmission. Of course I’m hoping for the easier fix of the recall.
    Thanks, and great channel you got going on being very informative

    2011 Escape. Just had a new TB put on by ford dealer. 3rd one car has had. I had a TB put on for the recall in 2014, then that one just went bad. They wouldn't cover it this time, said the 2 year warranty was up on the part.

    I have a 2010 Ford Escape and had this happen to me in early June while on Vacation cursing down I-5 in L.A...not fun! I had the vehicle towed to a local shop and they change out the Mass Air Flow Sensor and did a Chemical Injector Flush...$600 bucks (as a tourist) but all was well with my truck and made it back to AZ with no problems.Got my 13B17 recall letter when I returned and took it to my local Ford dealer in early Aug and they reprogrammed the TBS. On my trip home from the dealer, my check engine light came on. It has come on and off 4 times since. My gas mileage has dropped about 2 mpg since. The error code was a P0420. Brought it back to Ford and all they want to do is change the Catalytic Converter...have real doubts about this. I am now considering changing out my TBS to the D-suffix version. Any thoughts on this situation would be appreciated? Any recourse with Ford?
    Your videos are great and extremely useful!

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The P0420 was likely caused by the independent shop induction service. It takes a long time for the catalyst monitor to run and would not of run by the time you got home from the dealer. The mpg drop is from the cat fault for sure also, are you under 80k miles at least? I would only run the D suffix, that is what I did on my personal vehicle right away.

    Do these throttle body issues effect a 2012 fusion sport with the 3.5 V6? Or only the 2.5 or 3.0 engines.

    Hey man I just wanted to thank you for your video on this subject. Today my 2010 Escape had issues with the throttle body. It did everything you said it would do. I was literally minutes away from driving to the auto parts store to buy a new one for $130.00 ... Then I came across you video and called Ford customer service. They informed me that I was under warranty and that they would repair it for free. Man you just saved me some much needed $$$.. Thanks again.

  • @f5snopro11
    @f5snopro11 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm having all of the symptoms of the throttle body failure, yet ford is declining my 2013 1.6 fusion for the Customer Satisfaction Program because "my vin doesn't fit the program" even though it lists 2013 fusions being affected. Sounds like thy know what my issue is but for whatever reason I'm not part of the group of lucky ones...

    Just out of curiousity, do you perfer the electronic throttle bodies vs cable driven ones. I perfer the cable throttle bodies just because less seem to go wrong and not nearly much of a lag with acceleration, but i haven't had experience with the drive by wire setup. Your thought is very valid and opinions are very valid. Thanks Brian

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Skinner I like the drive by wire because there is so much more control over the system much more fine control.

    We have a 2011 Ford Edge with a similar problem, going into Limp Mode off and on, then it will self correct if we turn off the key and restart. Are you aware of corrosion problems with the motor contacts on this model? 3.5L V6. The Throttle Body appears to be very similar. Our local ford dealer has not been able to identify the problem, even thought I have referred them to the internet. (the dealer service person says they do not look at the internet, even though limp mode problems seem to be pretty common here). Thanks in advance. Harry

    Thanks again! My 2011 Escape has the old throttle body. I have owned it about a year and it has only cut out on me once. No engine light and hasn't happened since so I kind of blew it off. I do notice that it takes a while to respond if I try to accelerate quickly. It has enough hesitation to be annoying. Would this be from the throttle body issue?

  • @ReclusiveMountainMan
    @ReclusiveMountainMan 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got the 13N03 letter from Ford. I have a 2010 2.5L Fusion.Rather than playing the "let's wait and see" game, I just bought a brand new throttle body (part number: DS7Z*9E926*D). I also replaced the gasket (part number: 8E5Z*9E936*A) I figure spend the $130 and forget about it. Should I still get the PCM reflashed? I don't think it is needed if the TB is the problem.
    You're right about other manufacturers not taking care of their customers. I had a Honda with a defective engine block. They would only replace the short block if it failed. They admitted, however, that the block could fail at any time. They did offer an extended warranty on the motor, but I wouldn't want my engine to blow while on railroad track, etc.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I would still get it done as there are many improvements that come with the calibration update.

    • @ReclusiveMountainMan
      @ReclusiveMountainMan 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      FordTechMakuloco
      Okay. Next time I go in for a service I'll ask them to update the PCM. Would the update be a part of 13B17 or is that still 13N03? Should I tell them that I replaced the TB with the updated part?
      Thanks for everything!

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The update is the 13b17 recall. You don't need to tell them anything about you changing the throttle body.

      @ReclusiveMountainMan 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      FordTechMakuloco
      Thank you. I will ask for 13B17 then. In the meantime, is there any rush now that the new TB is installed? Will any damage result from putting this update off till next month? We're going on a road trip for a couple weeks.

    Hey Brian I have a 2005 mustang GT and a lot of the symptoms you described with a bad or failing throttle body I think I'm experiencing. There's days where the car response is good and there's days where it's terrible. Also it feels as tho the throttle response changes over time. I'm hesitant to just purchase a new one since they're expensive unless I'm certain that's what my problem is. Sometimes it's smooth to engage the clutch and other times it's a pain and it feels like it's because of the throttle response. And finally I notice that pulling into a parking spot after a good drive the idle dips and goes back up almost like it wants to stall and while I'm trying hard to engage the clutch properly but usually when I first jump in the car it feels fine. It's intermittent it seems usually feels good when I start a drive but after 20 minutes or so it feels inconsistent. Any thoughts??

  • @briantowry4663
    @briantowry4663 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    why does the dealership always say the check engine light needs to be on to check the car.does not the computer store any and all fault codes so they can be pulled up later? my 2010 ford fusion is having the same issues you discribed but they tell me the check engine light needs to be on when i bring it in. the problem with that is if the car sits for awhile and then you start it the check engine light will not be on.

    Wonderful article. I appear to be experiencing this issue. 2009 3.0L V6 Escape had minor symptoms now is dying at stop lights and while driving. Wrench warning light is now on. I am at a loss because Ford dealers say they will run diagnostic and then tell me if I am covered and/or if I owe them for diagnostic. Thus a few stupid questions...1. Will my SYNC Vehicle Health Report tell me my recall status?2. Can I find out if I am likely covered with at diagnostic check getting error codes at Autozone or similar?3. Can you clarify the circumstances under which they either a) just do a software update and/or b) replace the throttle body. I have no concerns replacing it myself but don't understand the computer system part of this.4. Any other suggestions? I am now concerned about getting stalled in the middle of the road just taking it somewhere. ;-) Again, great video and thank you for any help.

    Hello, how can I tell if this was the culprit after replacing the ETB? Do the plates look "different" or what would I be looking for? Buildup? We have all the symptoms, but I need to be certain that this is indeed what is causing our issue as it is random and obviously a dangerous one. Thanks

      But will I be able to see the issue visibly after disassembling the part? I've seen another throttle body model where he popped a cap off and showed the white buildup on the leads. What about these models for a 2012 Fusion? I'm seeking reimbursement from Ford for the part by proving that it was a problem.

    I have a 2010 Ford Fusion and the throttle body just started acting up. Like Mike Schwartz below I went to the dealership and because the code was not posting all they did was flash the computer. So I have two quick questions, after the flash the car has been shifting like crap, I would think that the pcm is relearning the system so should I do an idle relearn or will it eventually take care of itself? The second question I have for you is considering I am a distance from any ford dealer and the car will more than likely go through a drive cycle and erase the code before I even arrive at a dealership would it do me any good to try to call ford and get a preapproval for them to replace the throttle body, or would I just be wasting my breath??? I could replace it myself but hate to spend money on a warranty issue. Thanks for any help.

    @fordtechmakuloko i have a 12'ford fusion i got the service letter and my car is having the same exact problems but my concern is the wrench light comes on only when the issue occurs and goes away once i shut off the engine and run it again, but no engine light comes up. so if i take my car to shop with no engine&wrench light on on the dash will it get detected for the faulty throttle. i just dont want to pay/waist $$$ for a diagnose knowing it has a problem or should i wait till the engine light comes up and take i dont want something else to get mess up. thanks!!! great vid.

      +Jesus Ayala The ford scan tool has a ETB check it does of freeze frame data within the pcm to tell if there has been an etb fault so if this happens and you have it looked at in a timely fashion the scan tool will not pass it and instruct them to replace under the recall.

    Another example of Ford engineers using sub-standard components on critical potentially hazardous vehicle systems. In the old days; electrical engineers used something called 'Gold Flashed Contacts' on critical electrical connections between electrical subsystems. In addition to being excellent electrical conductor, gold is also inert; which avoids nasty little problems like thermal and age related oxidation degradation. At some point in time; cost-cutting sharks decided to save a few pennies per unit; and use low-cost, low performance substitute materials. Now Ford scrambles and spends millions replacing faulty and critically hazardous throttle assemblies. What a joke engineering design is in this country these days.

    Thanks for letting me know. I was just a little concerned about this because it seems like 1 glitch the throttle body needs replaced. I do have a question, would there be alternatives for the corrections without having to replace the etb( iac throttle body combo) or the gas pedal assy (tp sensor). The reason i ask this is because not everyone can afford to replace one or all these components. I'm just trying to look out for the financially challanged that have these vehicles with etb's on them. Please let be know. I like to help others out as well and i do know how difficult it is to be able to have a well maintained vehicle as well as being able to make ends meat. Kind of being able to eat vs getting services done on the vehicles. Thats just an example. Please let me know. Thanks Brian Skinner

    I know this video is old but hopefully you still reply:
    I have a 2013 Fusion, 6spd manual 1.6eb. My wrench light comes on after driving at highways speeds for 15-30 minutes. There is absolutely no change in driveability and it goes off when I shut off the car. When I hook up my scan tool (it's a relatively cheaper one) I get no codes, even if I scan it before shutting the car of and the light is still on. Do you know what this means?

    Where is the music in your intro from? Batman? Thanks for the videos really big help. You ever seen the a problem where the CD changer gets jammed because you changed the battery and didn't eject the cds first? Also you can go to Ford ownership website to check recall status on your vehicle. 2009 Fusion is ok.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Janega88 IDK it cam with the intro I kind like it. I have heard of various problems with radios after battery disconnects and jumps but never experienced it myself. The cd transport mechanisms in those are know problems various years and the reset you did by pulling battery may have caused the problem to show itself because it checks all cd slots upon power up automatically. Yeah my 2009 escape is not part of the recall for the software flash either but does show for the extended warranty.

    Thanks for the video. My GF owns a 2011 Fusion 3.0L. Her car suffered from the "shutoff" effect the ECM would do if it detected a problem with the throttle body. According to the receipt they updated her car's software and so far no issue except for today. Similar to before, the "wrench" light came on momentarily when she started the car up. She shut it down and restarted her car and the light went away and she drove off just fine. I connected my scanner and it pulled up a P2119 code, which, as you may know, is throttle body related. So, I think the update helped the car still function. Do you think she should take her vehicle in and try and get the throttle body hardware replaced? I looked at the throttle body and it read DS7Z-A. Assuming the higher the alphabet, the newer the part model, so its likely having an issue with the plating and given the high heat Florida is having, electrical overheating is bound to cause issues.
    Sorry for the long-winded post, but thank you for the informative video!

    I bought a 2012 Ford Fusion SEL. It started having surges, high RPM and a shutter vibration to it in the third month of owning the brand new car. It has been back to the dealership eight times. I get the typical "Normal behavior speech " everytime. I received the letter from the Ford Corporation about the contaminated Throttle Body and extended warranty. They said unless the wrench light comes on your good and it is good for 10 years. They didn't check it out at all. The oil was checked out by a independent service station and I was told it was black. The car has only 16,000 on it and the service station manager said he never saw oil this color with such low mileage. It was also overfilled by the dealership. My car was built in the Hermosilla Plant. The Regional Manager for Washington State left me a condescending message telling me this was totally normal and I could stop by and they would look at it, but again this was totally normal. They treat me as if I am insane and my car is perfect. The car behaves just as you describe with surges and loss of control at certain times turning around a corner. I know that my Vin number is associated with similiar car failures that came out of this same plant. They now don't want to let me leave the car at the dealership for any time. Rather they say it is perfect and I can go home. The last time the mechanic opened the hood and when I went around to look inside he closed it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

      Now that is just messed up, I can tell you I have had many with no lights, I make them fail for the customer to get the warranty replacement, Ford can have them back they are all bad. There are ways to make the light go on but I would get in trouble. Have them do the ETB check tool on the ids not codes no looking for a light just do the ETB check right in front of you is the best bet. As far as the trans fluid they all get dark very quick with this new Fluid Mercon LV it is normal as long as it does not smell burnt you are ok.

    Can the throttle body go bad twice? Does the symptom at first appear to be a transmission problem? I had my throttle body replaced at 65k on my 09 escape 3.0 V6. Now I have 230k miles. I have weird things happen. First my wife was driving it up a hill and it wouldn’t move at all, the RMS needle didn’t go up at all, The car wouldn’t move and then its suddenly started to work fine for the next 6 weeks.
    Today I was stopped in heavy traffic with the air on. Stepped on the gas and the car wouldn’t move. (Can’t recall if the RMPs went high), the yellow wrench light came on but after I shifted to park and then drive and it started moving again. Got home and pulled codes 456 & 457 ( I think it has to do with the broken gas filler)
    Started the car , the wrench light went out and it drove fine. The Trans was a little low on fluid so I added a quart.
    Can my throttle body be bad again?
