    I just purchased one of these (same finish)...they are stunning, fit and finish top notch. One thing I could recommend, change out the rubber feet on the floor tom legs. I was getting a choked sound with some wanky overtones, tried different tunings but nothing helped. Removed the stock feet and installed some Gibraltar floating floor tom feet (10.5m) I had laying around and now this floor tom sings, like night and day. Crazy how those stock feet were affecting the sound.

    • @Drumzylvania
      @Drumzylvania 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are they easy to tune? Hold the tuning well?

    • @mikedulin1325
      @mikedulin1325 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Drumzylvania I've only had them for 2 days and haven't played them too much but they sound fantastic. Once I switched out the feet the floor tom came alive...the 12" sounded nice and tuned up easily....bass drum is great too. I cant say enough about the attention to detail / fit & finish. Top notch.

    For the price, this is a heck of a good deal. Use to be near the 4 grand point to get a set of this caliper. Build quality, and sound appear to be spot on. They really do compete with much higher priced sets, and in some cases sound better. They sound a lot like my Mapex Velvetones., and for a lot less. If I was in the market, I would be finding a way to get behind one, and test it out. I know drums are a preference in what sound someone is looking for, but to me. They are right up my alley. Love em. Well done Brits.

    • @motodrummer
      @motodrummer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I agree they both sound great and. for a 3 pc I dont think the price is that much different unless I am missing something. Unfortunately my only misgiving with both kits are the color selections. Seems no one makes a nice higher end Birch kit with sparkle or glitter options. I agree Birch is better for me for gigging but I also like to sparkle : )..seems the entire industry is following the same path with Birch drums as far as color schemes go..: (

      @@motodrummer The Sonor's are very close in price. Unless you go to a 4 piece, then that's where they differ substantially. I'm not saying the Sonor isnt what I'd go with. They are proven, and sound great. I'd seriously probably be leaning more towards them. Just because of their reputation, and great build, and sound quality. Not that the Legends dont have that, but they just dont have the history that the SQ1's have. Either way, I'd say I'd be happy with either one. From experience, dont buy a color that you're not 100% sure of. I did that once, and regretted it. Sonor has some great color choices. I'm a little jealous. I wish I had your problem right now, lol. Get what you want. I'm anxious to see your final decision.

    Totally agree with his statement about 'maple'. Therefore, I seem to prefer birch a little more. Own an original premier genista (20 and 24 bass, 10,12 toms, 14,16 floor; two snares in 14/5,5 and 14/7). Very interesting brand..I like both the sound and looks very much. Too bad Premier doesnt seem to produce that much anymore. Longtime fan...also own a Premier SeriesBirch jazzkit that I'"" never sell (unless, something should force me to...awkard thought ;). BDC is a brand on my future list. Fantastic!!! Buying a lottery ticket now. Greetings from the Netherlands

    • @benjiarehart2878
      @benjiarehart2878 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Considering the price difference between the two, the British is a kit that I'd definitely being taking a second look at. 10 plies that are that thin is very impressive, as well as the build quality that looks like they made attention to details a priority. They sound almost identical to my Mapex Black Panther Velvetones. Their sound is phenomenal, and at that price point, I'd say they are the best bang for the buck. The only other aspect I believe is that the Sonors would have a better resale value, but they should at that cost. Really hard to get a set like this for under 3 grand that's not used. If you already have a good snare, it's almost a no brainers. Just m.o.

    Okay but... Everyone goes on and on about how rack toms cannot possibly sound any good if there's any kind of suspension mount touching the shell... So how come these can sound so damn fantastic when they just drill their mount directly onto the tom shell?

    • @drumcenternh
      @drumcenternh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're of the opinion that (well-designed) direct to shell mounts tend to allow the shell to resonate more than most RIMS-type mounts. Mounts that distribute tension to the lugs and not the rods also work well.

    • @stromghouls
      @stromghouls 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@joeakaradej8666 it is very high quality birch wood. and used in many legendary kits. sonorlites, sonor SQ2, kumu drums, premier drums, british drum co, old tama starclassic birch of the nineties, old masterworks pearl. jalapeno drums. highwood drums etc. scandinavian birch wood is heavy and strong and plentiful. it comes mainly from finland. the famous finnish birch. and sometimes sweden. it is the national tree of both finland and sweden. the silver birch. betula pendula. the funny thing is that it also grow as native wood in japan too. i suspect old yamahas and sakae kits are made with this wood too. scandinavian birch veneers for drum finishes are insanely expensive.
