    By far, the most balanced kit I’ve probably heard in 30 years. I own a 90’s Genista kit which I love, but this is warmer than the Genista which has great attack but drier sounding IMO. This kit ooozes tonality like none I’ve heard. I’d take this over Sonor any day

    Best sounding drums on the market IMO. The big 5 drum companies have all great products, but in my opinion, there was nothing that felt like an heirloom type of kit, which is what you should feel like when dropping $3+K on a 5pc kit. You feel the craftsmanship in your bones with these drums. And, everything is perfectly in tune with each other. That snare is beautiful too. Kudos to this manufacturer....absolutely gorgeous tone/look. Glad to see these guys setting he bar for all the other kids on the block....

    Always interesting to see and hear those percussive sounds with small toms. They easily cut through a mix. What an amazing sounding kit , it’s a very unique sound impression coming from the four higher toms to the 16 floor tom. You missed the obvious chance to add a little „in the air tonight“ fill though (to all the nerds: Yes, I know it’s played on six toms even) 😉

    Just pick this set up in a 12/16/22 configuration and these drums are Stunning as well as sound fantastic and easily tuned right up. I have been playing top end Maple set for years and I believe the Birch shells to be a little more versatile compare to their maple counterparts. Looking forward to playing them out next week and I'm sure they will be a hit with my band mates and with the audience.

    Sounds to me like Britiain finally has their top drum company. These sound just a great as any other high end kits from Sonor, Yamaha, Pearl, DW, Craviotto, or Tama. The toms sound lively, vibrant, and resonate for days. Their overall tone and projection reminds me a lot of the old Tama superstar series drums of the late 70s and 80s..Think Simon Phillips and Neil Peart.

    I love the kit! This is truly my first time hearing a recording of a British Drum Co kit, at least knowingly so. The kit looks great and sounds lovely. My only comment is that I wouldn’t see a point in adding the 6” tom if it were me making the purchase. To me it doesn’t seem to add anything special or unique to my ears. That’s not a criticism of BDC at all but rather my personal taste.

  • @21DaHoagie12

    it looks so strange setup that way, with 4 small rack toms over the bass drum and one huge floor tom xD .. but damn if the kit sounds really nice!! now granted, remo coated ambassadors on birch shells is my go-to setup, so maybe I'm biased, but like c'mon, listen to those toms!

    I recently bought a new PDP maple 7 piece kit, put new heads on it and spent a few days tuning it just right. I cannot see the justification of spending another $4300 for the difference. Sure, maybe if I had all the money to buy whatever, but, I swear listening to this through my stereo, I would feel like I’m throwing money away.

  • @bellyspecial9152
    @bellyspecial9152 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love these!
    I can see where the price come from, judging by the asthitic and build quality. But, how much difference is there in sound quality in a pro kit compeared to an intermediate kit?

    • @bbfoto7248
      @bbfoto7248 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @belly special
      True, you won't find as much difference in sound these days as there used to be between the ultra high end kits and the more affordable kits.
      Most of the difference is in the quality of the hardware & mounting systems and build quality/construction of the shells.
      But one major difference that I consistently do find with the high end kits is that they nearly always tune up much easier and also have a greater tuning range from low to high without choking.
      This will, of course, depend on the shell's wood type, bearing edges, + hoops & tension rods/lugs. But in general, high end kits are easier to tune, and tune more precisely. They also tend to hold their tune better, providing the temperature is stable.
      I would gladly own this kit if I was in the market for another one. But it's a tough market because there are just so many really good kits available now!
      But once again, thanks to Nolly & Nick for another fantastic (though perhaps slightly biased...British), review! :-p

    i am currently shopping for a new kit and they are at the top of my list. but me i want the legend series special edition. it is finished with a spalted birch veneer and there is way more drum size choices. the regular legend series is very limited with drum size choices.

    • @dansmith3302
      @dansmith3302 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair, the only practical restriction on the standard legend series is in the depth of the drums. I've got a white legend with 8", 10", 12" and 13" rack toms, a 16" floor tom and a 22" bass drum. And I LOVE it! Best sounding drums I've ever played! If you're even slightly tempted by a BDC kit, my advice is 'do it!' You won't be disappointed.

    • @stromghouls
      @stromghouls 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dansmith3302 i agree. french is my main language and did not take the time to write the right words. depth was the right word. they do have plenty of drum sizes. but i wished for slightly deeper drums on the toms especially. and a bit less deep on the floor tom. 8x10, 9x12 and 10x13 with 14x16 floor. but i think the current sizes offered are fine.

    Thank you for this review. However, these drums are advertised to be great sounding with both high and low tensioned heads and it would have been more demonstrative of the range of these magnificent drums, had you set the kit up in these two tension arrangements. I did play someone's BD Co. kit at an open mic night gig. The kit was tuned extra low and at first I thought they would never make a decent sound like that. Boy was I wrong! It is true what they claim, tuned low, even very low, these drums are magnificent sounding, with a deep low aggressive sound that punches through the mix to have a serious impact on the bands overall sound. I instantly fell in love with these drums. 'Soooo easy to play well. (Reminded me of my old 1970's Rogers USA kit. Only much better!)

    Great review, exactly what we have come to expect from drummers review.
    The kit sounds amazing but I fear British Drum Co are asking too much for such a new brand with no heritage to speak of, despite a name like Keith Keough at the helm, and no brand recognition. Clearly they are superbly made but going head to head with the major players at this stage of the game is not wise. Gaining market share will be hard until they are established and can use reputation as a foundation. Just my thoughts.
