What a cluster. Squatters should be housed in jail.
A lot of laws are ancient, old as this country. They need to all be rewritten, just like the Constitution. Needs to be updated.

No property tax paid in 4 years and the city hasn't auctioned it off?
This is why owners should get someone to live there an take care of it..
Find somebody meaner and sign a lease with them. They can get your squatters out.

If laws do not back the taxpayer, no property taxpayers will exist.
Elected officials (who receive their money from property taxes) might want to think about supporting taxpayers instead of criminals.

All states should require Airbnb to cover the expenses of the landlord if a tenant has become a squatter. Also within a year (or so) Airbnb needs to buy the property at market rate from the landlord if the squatter is still living there

I live in a state that doesn't have squatter problems it's real simple if you get caught on someone else's property it is illegal trespassing it is breaking and entering and the sheriff's department will not only remove you but they will put you in jail

I had an income property until two years ago and sold it….why? Because of squatting laws
Let this be a lesson if you own property that is vacant… allow a relative or friend to occupy it at a discounted rate until you sell it.
Those squatters didn't just show up. Someone is putting them up to it.
So a 80yo grandma half the country away decided to sit on a commercial fenced off property she just inherited? She was better off taking the best offer available & have that cash sitting in her bank account.

the laws already exist, its called breaking and entering and tresspassing.
No homeowners should ever have to deal with squatters, they have committed trespassing, theft and breaking and entering. In some parts of the country squatters still get run off like they did in the past, by dogs and guns with buck shot. It works too.

I feel bad for the owners and I also feel bad that America has put these people in this situation. The price of renting shouldn't be so high since it is. Deal with it. Why should some Americans be able to live comfortably but the less fortunate gotta be homeless. Keep squatting. They shouldn't be raising these prices and making a lot more people homeless. The same people this lady crying to are the same people that allowed them to steal her home. And now they trying to steal 8 grand of her money. All the family needs to do is find her a home and take it like they took hers eye for an eye since it's no help. Help y'all self. Our government shouldn't of put people on the streets. Blame the politics not the homeless.

In New York landlord will keep apartments vacant to drive up the cost of living but by all means cry about squatting
We have these laws because pretty much everybody who is not Native is a squatter. This might hurt a minority of homeowners, but it protects the vast majority of people.

The rent is too damn high.
This is coming from someone who has never voted for a Republican for Federal office; squatter rights, property taxes and inheritance taxes are the stupidest things in the world. Particularly bad at this, are cities like San Francisco, where a guest can technically claim squatting rights after spending X amount of time in a property. This is absolutely, utterly ridiculous. Keep in mind, the people who bear the heaviest burden for this nonsensical squatting laws are often working class families who can’t afford a squatter hunter.
