Anderson's interview with the Met director was excellent! I hope this story corrects the wrong done by the museums and others.
Museums don’t incentivize theft. Their rich donor base does so. Art pieces are donated and bought , regardless where and how they were obtained , through endowments and donations.

There are alternatives that can be made cheaper but how can that Defense executive get his or bonus to buy a third home on a tropical island? $4M to shoot a $10k drone makes absolute sense.
Any sort of light, including laser, get weaker the further they are away from their source. It's hard and expensive to integrate a laser system strong enough to effectively hit drones and other objects from long range. Aside, these drones are a lot larger then most people might think and a laser weapon has to be directed at them for an extended amount of time. You also can't use lasers in all weather situations either.
That's because those (missiles) were made for the USSR/Russia and China, not terrorist groups. Hopefully we are adapting.

Keep in mind that the (broken) and stolen artifacts from Cambodia "can never" be restored to their originality since the original quality of the products had been damaged and destroyed. How can these thieves, the looters, feel good when they look at the stolen products knowing that they are criminals of the most despicable class? Their state of mentality must have been blinded by a "pure insanity". If I were the leader of Cambodia, I'd pursue the charges to the fullest against these known looters. Thieves, these are mistakes of the worse kind you have done against a national and world heritage for which can never be paid in full. You are encouraged to come forth and give Cambodia (and the world) a sincere apology.

In my eyes, the true beauty of these arts is all ruined and cannot be returned to its originality. I went to India in the late 1980’s saw a temple with one goddess on the left side of an entrance to a temple and an empty hole on the right. I then went to the Asian museum in NYC and saw the right side goddess, I was shocked because it was the first time I realized where specifically the destruction took place. If the gods are not in their home temples they at one point were removed. A God’s home is in a temple. The flip side of this dilemma is that school children and people of all ages can learn about history, religion and a different time period by going to museums. I don’t think a warehouse in Cambodia is where the Gods should be either.
They will be returned to the temples here and protected as this is sacred to Cambodians. The museums can use replicas like a lot of their exhibitions.

I briefly toured the Met one time, and the British Museum later. Had to get out of both as quickly as possible, being overcome with depression at seeing so many items on display that obviously had been looted from civilizations around the world. Not only did the items look totally out of context, the looters had to damage them in order to break them loose from the palaces and temples they came from.
Don't judge the action of our ancestors otherwise most of them would be considered a criminals by our standard. What we need to do is change the laws and behaviors to make the return of these artifacts easy and safely. Many relics were donated to the museum with strict rules forbidding the museum from selling, loaning, altering or returning them.
If you of I receive stolen goods , and we know them to be stolen but refuse to give them back to the owners , then we get charged with a crime. The fair and just solution seems obvious

@@buzz5969 i did mean "they" stole them. I mean the art dealer who sold them. Some of the stuff looked pretty important and was quite expensive. To loot a temple and take a countries heritage only for it to end up in a mansion or a museum is pretty shltty. But you just dont sneak thousands of relics out of a country without a few officials on the take either.
But the episode is only 43 minutes...
