I will be doing the same on my old 1998 Kawasaki KLX300. Got is as a project years ago and have been building it up specifically tailored to myself over the years (almost finished). I have a garage full of 2-Strokes but I think that I will be using the KLX300 the most, for a wide variety of riding from Motocross to Hare Scrambles to Enduro's. Thanks for posting the video. I finally have the (full) ProCircuit T6 exhaust on the KLX now, and I have the Power Commander in there also... Still some pops/backfires, but I think overrall it glides more, smoother.. if you know what I mean. Feels more free.. Can't tell if it's any faster yet but, definitely seems smoother.. I dunno, maybe it takes time to settle in..
The popping isn't the result of a lean condition. It's the pair valve . Even if you don't notice the power difference, sleep good knowing your engine will last twice as long now that the fuel air mixture is correct. That's what really matters.
I picked one of these up fall of 23. Sweet bike for the money, really can’t go wrong with it. Do you still have yours? I noticed you haven’t posted in a long time. Hopefully you didn’t sustain a nasty injury from that wreck.

Thank you! So the pc5 is a fuel programmer. This bike is fuel injected as im sure you know. I explain everything in my pro circuit exhaust video, but the short story is this. The computer on the klx doesn't compensate for intake air or exhaust air. It's called a closed loop fuel injection system, which isnt like you or car which has a mass air flow sensor and O2 sensors to read that. This bike comes lean from the factory to pass strict emissions standards. The pc5 tells the computer to make the optimal fuel to air ratio for more power and reliability. Lean engines run hot and you will reach your valves faster that running the proper ratio. Hope this helps
Sorry about your crash, your videos and reviews were very helpful in my decision and I just picked up a 2021KLX 300R. What foot pegs do you recommend I wear a size 14 shoe?

You are so damn quick on that bike.i got the same bike and slip on muffler pro circuit.i road mine today I have a little backfire, could a run a different spark plug heat range to help with running lean
Thanks man. I'm not lean anymore with my fuel tuner and it still backfires a little bit. It's just the bike at that point. Unburned fuel exits the engine into the exhaust and ignites inside the header pipe causing a pop.
I have the same bike, and brand new...mine did that a LOT too. Thought it was an issue but, it's not. Bike just runs a little lean, also runs a little hot at first, also probably has old gas in it, but one thing I noticed more and more, the more I rode it...the less it backfires. I actually took it in to Kawasaki and they told me "YOU NEED TO RIDE THIS THING ! AND OPEN IT UP ! Higher revs." And honestly that's what I've been doing. Really feels like the bike is settled in now, so smooth, shifts smooth, runs smooth, quick !!! I love it.
Hope you're OK man. I'm surprised how well the KLX300R did around a track. Have you ever used it for any slower, more technical riding? How do you think it would fare in enduro/hard enduro?

hows it going man. Im planning to get one of these bikes as my first bike. I was wondering if you could tell me your mod list. I don't know what mods to get that go hand in hand with keeping the bike not running lean? not really sure if I saying these things correctly lol. But any info would help a ton. thank you
When a bike runs lean ot means that there is too much air entering the engine in ratio to how much gas is present. Running rich means there is to much gas in relation to air, so the opposite of lean. The problem with running lean is it makes the engine run hotter than it should. The problem with that is that a hit engine not o ly produces less horsepower, but it also wears your engine out much faster. Your valves can loose there temper and hardness and wear out among numerous other things that will cost you a ton to fix. The only thing you need to fix this is the power commander v from dyno jet. It makes the fuel to air ratio perfect which is around 13:1. If you don't want a little extra power but want your bike to last for years then you still want the PC v. Hope this helps
Nick I hope your ok bud. I just got a 2021 myself. I was wondering if your still on stock springs and if so what do you set your rear sag at. Mine was at 145mm from the factory with me on it and I dialed it up to 110mm but it is -8 F here right now and haven't been able to ride it. What do you suggest? Thanks and hopefully you heal as fast as you ride.
I weigh 200 pounds with gear almost. My sag is set at 110 mm with 30 mm of static sag. Which mean I am almost to heavy for the stock spring but it works fine. If you are running 110 mm that will put less weight on your front end which is good for high speed stability in a straight line. If you decrease you sag to 105 mm say, that will put more weight on your front tire maki g it corner better. You can adjust your sag for your riding conditions between 100 and 110 mm or you can set it at 110 and forget it. That's what I would do because the klx300 chassis corners incredibly well without the help of less sag.
@@Nick-fs8vg Thanks for the reply Nick, very helpful. I'm a bit heaver than you at 204lb with no gear. (but loosing weight) I did gear up to set the sag. I'm 58 and wont be riding/jumping like you do just trail riding here in Colorado. I rechecked the sag today and I actually have it at 120 rider and 32mm static, so I'm a bit heavy for spring. I will give the 120 a go and bring it up if needed. Thanks for the help and excellent videos.
You was doing great with a KLX300R if not for that Idiot who ran into you. I'm glad you are alright. Great job staying up with the other riding who were riding 2 strokes.🇺🇲🤙🏼
@@Snide01 I don’t think either of them were idiots, it’s motocross, this is how it goes. If this stuff makes you mad racing ain’t for you.

I don’t see how you can call 2 guys whose lines crossed idiots. You were that one guy raging at people nonsensically for rubbing elbows with you 😂 I know your type
I have an impossible question for you...I currently ride a 2009 KX250F. I have been looking at the KLX300R for a few months now and asking myself, "Why not"? I mean, come on...E start, EFI and less than $6k?!?! I mostly ride single/dual track, hilly kind of terrain. My question is, will I miss the power of the 250, or is the longer stroke and torque make me ask "what lack of power"? Keep in mind that if I do get the KLX300R that I will do the air box mod, Power Commander and FMF exhaust. Thanks man, great videos, keep 'em coming!!!
Great question. Here is how I have been explaining this. The klx300 is a bike for people who leave their ego at home. If you are the type of guy who rides with his guy friends and you all go hard, this bike will work but not as good as your 250f. But if you are using this strictly for fun on the trail, and maybe riding with your family then this is far better than your 250f. You just have to be honest with yourself about what you want . But with all the mods you will be doing, it will keep up with a 250f on most rides unless that ride is a race. The klx300 is not as powerful as a 250f no matter what you do to it and you will notice that, but it still has plenty of power to have fun and get serious from time to time.
@@Nick-fs8vg Thank you!!! I just turned 50 in August, so I've left my ego at home while ago...lol I think I am going to do it, sell the 250 and get the 300. Thank you for your insight on this.
Based on your age (that's not old) and attitude you would be crazy not to buy the klx. But keep in mind you need to to do the power commander at the very least immediately. I recommend ordering it now before you even buy your bike. You will love it .
Looking to buy this years model. 6'3" and 225lb and a novice. Only trail and maybe some enduro. Just getting out there with the kids really. They get bored quickly if they have no one to ride with. I don't want a MX bike and I thought this was a good compromise. Your thoughts?
Hey, considering you haven't made a choice yet I recommend the KLX230r if you don't want the full 300cc, I've got that at 6'3 200lbs and it works great, only really need to stay in 2nd-3rd gear on the trails and a lot of aftermarket options for it too, but both are pretty similar besides subtle differences.
Is this a bike you would be happy with taking to the dunes as well, i ride mostly single track in the woods but the occasional "dune" (usually requires no paddle) is it powerful enough to get you through the sand? thanks and ride safe
Honestly no. It will take you around in the sand but you would he full throttle the entire time in first or second gear. I love this bike but I wouldn't take it to the dunes. My yz250x is underpowered in the sand let alone the klx
Looking for some feed back very impressed with the way that bike handled on a track wanting to buy the wr250r but this bike is cheaper and looks like can take a beating what year is your bike and would you say it handles better than the Yamaha 250
If you remove the throttle stop and other bs on the wr it will beat the crap out of the klx300 . Its lighter, More powerful and better suspended. You have to be honest with yourself about what kind of rider you are. Leave the ego out of it. The klx300 is no slouch in power once the pc5 is installed, and the suspension is great for trail riding even at a fast pace. It corners very well, but it is heavy. The wr can win a hare scramble in the expert class, but the klx cant. The klx can win in the intermediate class with an expert rider at the bars. But if you are just trail riding and even getting after it and pushing your limits the klx can do it. Here's is the selling point. The klx engine design allows it be be ridden with not only way less maintenance, but it can run the same for far longer without a rebuild. The wr rebuild will run you 3000 dollars after only 200 hours give or take. The klx will run a 1000 amd not bat an eye if you take care of it( and intall the pc5 to fix lean running). Even the wr requires a remap to make it run properly. The wr is a high rpm race engine with a short shelf life, hence the power you get. The klx will just keep trucking along.
I think you mistook his question. He asked about the wr250r not the wr250f. All of what you said applies to the f, but the wr250r dual sport is a heavy underpowered piglet compared to the f. And the klx300r would be better off road than the wr250r. That aside, nice riding in the video. Too bad about the goon taking you out at the end.
Excellent videos of the KLX 300 R Nick!! Sincere thank you. Question, do you have a comprehensive list of the mods that you've done? Any chance you could do an updated video? By the way, awesome race. Sorry about the crash. Hope you recovered well! Don

Nick was absolutely moving to the outside from the inside of the previous corner, the other guy took the outside and was coming inside (and was going faster). Just a racing incident, nobody’s fault. If this stuff makes you mad racing ain’t for you.
@@yamkaw346
How many trophies are in your garage? 😂
I've raced since I was 11 years old. If idiots don't piss you off, then you aren't human. There's no excuse for stupid.. 🤦♂️
@@Snide01 A lot... they give out plaques these days too many to put on the wall. But it’s nice cause they take up less space than the trophies.
You found the best bike available on the market for you.
@@Nick-fs8vg thank you for the honest reply. might have to hold on to my old 450 and then sell the '10 250 for this klx.
@@smeggysmeg2837 ah yes me being a dumbass. Ya I dont know shit about the dual sport wr.
Damn brother you ride the hell out that thing. Sucks dude got in your way man. But we’re you on stock tires still?
Thank you. Yes these are the original tires
Nick !!! You alright buddy ?! Haven't posted since this video.. I know you got hurt, just checking man.. Hope ur good...
Ya buddy I'm good. Thank you! It's just winter here in montana so I cant post shit for riding. Thanks for checking in.
@@Nick-fs8vg good to know.
I love it. Is it tuned?
Yes
Excellent videos of the KLX 300 R Nick!! Sincere thank you. Question, do you have a comprehensive list of the mods that you've done? Any chance you could do an updated video?
By the way, awesome race. Sorry about the crash. Hope you recovered well!
Don
Thank you! The only mods I have done is the dyno jet and PC exhaust. I raised the handle bars too but tha is all. I might do another video once winter is over
@@Nick-fs8vg Thank you. Hope you don't mind if I ask you a couple other questions. Would you say that, for a novice rider wanting to get better at motocross and dirt bike skills, better to roll with the 300R with mods than the KX250X?
@@Nick-fs8vg Are you going to get some stiffer Springs?
@@Nick-fs8vg I don't know much about what a dinosaur is but do you have a link where I could learn about it and purchase it question malso, for the exhaust?
I’m 6”3 190 would I be too big for the bike
Nope. I'm 10 pounds heavier than you are and it's great. You arent to tall either
@@Nick-fs8vg awesome! And do you prefer the liquid cooling instead of air cooling?
@@ryan_rupe this is an awesome engine . I wouldnt change it
I tryin to save my money to get one of these. Such a good bike for the money
You wont regret it
Hey man, nice riding and hope that didn't hurt too much.... Thats what happens when youre just too good lol.
Thank you!
Did you custom tune your klx with the power commander? Or did you choose the aftermarket exhaust options?
Plugged it in and rode. There is no aftermarket options at the moment.
@@Nick-fs8vg Crazy spill at the end there Nick, damn.. Hope you aight bro ! Question.. Which exhaust did you get for it again ? Just the slip on, or the whole pipe ?!
Nevermind, just went and looked back, PC EXHAUST. Dope !!!
Thanks man
Good riding man too bad buddy ran into you. Hope you ok
Thank you
Needs more videos. Hope the leg is healed up!!!!
Thanks man. It's doing better. I dont know what to do a video of lol
Damn your a fast rider,
Thank you
Does it bog out at high rpm’s?
No it just falls flat on power
Was that a race or just practice?
I practiced on your mom before the race
Dang!
My front suspension is so soft, yours looks a a lot stiffer
My suspension is stock. It's actually really good in everything but abrupt edges
How much do you weigh?
About 230
What the hell happened?! It looked like the other racer came out of nowhere... not your fault. Be well soon.
I would have to slap that guy who hit you he was riding out of control.
Ya he was an idiot. I have no idea what he was thinking
Ouch dumped like that before hope your ok
Thank you. Shit sucks but it's all good.
WTF was that clown in2 m8. Hope you confronted him. Is ya klx ok u ok . I came off bad during the week bent the stock bars and the shifter. Have renthal rc bars now. Hope u and that green machine r ok.
I did and he apologized. I dont have a clue what he was thinking doing that. My bike is bent up just like yours but nothing major. Same with me, on crutches now but all is good. Thanks man
@@Nick-fs8vg cool Nick. Did u break a leg or something? Awsome vids m8.
Damn near. My whole damn leg is swollen and took a huge gouge out of it. But all is good. Thanks man
But why the 300 and not the 250? Why the 150 and not the 125? Im not gonna ask why the 500 and not the 460 ... but still! Oh shit you ate it. Does this mean the KLX is not a great mx bike? Why did he get soo close during practice? Heal up bro! #MOTOSTRONG

That bike is classified as a playbike and weighs 300 lbs. Why did you buy it if you motocross? That being said. 80% rider. 20% bike.
I didn't buy it for moto. I bought it for trail use. Just demonstrating its abilities and having some fun is all. I race a yz250.
What a squid.... If you could not tell by the crappy riding and classless pass attempt, the loud mouth always gives it away!
Id stay off a track lol
Hope you didn't have to pay to ride that pos track
