I once encountered an M.I.A parent in a target with my dad. This lady was an extreme M.I.A, her little two year old toddler started pulling on the spider wrap on TV (the bungee cord with a circle so you can't steal it) and the TV started to fall on him, and my dad being the hero he ran (keep in mind, he's almost 50 years old and we were about 10 aisles away) all the way to the child and saved him by grabbing the heavy TV and letting the COMPLETELEY oblivious mom know her son was okay. We later talked about how that mom is not a good parent

I'm hoping that was fairly exaggeratory. Let's hope our generation is a bit less strict. Then again, there'll probably be more immigrants who are just as strict. Also, is this just referring to Chinese parents, or is it a bit more broad (Hong Kongese, Macanese, Taiwanese, Japanese, South (and possibly North) Korean, Malaysian, Singaporean, Indonesian, Filipino, Vietnamese, Thai, etc. parents as well?) Also, are we just talking about East and maybe Southeast Asian parents. or we talking about parents everywhere from Laos to Kuwait to Kazakhstan?

Okay, sorry. Also, it's clearly exaggerated to some degree; you obviously have Internet access. But do your parents really freak out over a 98% score on a test, or whatever, or have ( or at least, try to) have that much of an iron fist over your career? Also, how long have you been learning Mandarin for, and to what degree do you speak it. I get that it's a very difficult language for native English speakers to learn, but if you've been learning it since you were old enough to learn a second language, I'd expect you'd be at least nearly fluent. Also, are their any specific, personal examples of things that have happened during your experiences with your own parents that could be of relevance here?
